I have an in slab air duct system with PVC pipes but medal joints and plenum that were rusted. The question I was facing was weather to try and repair the existing system or go overhead with a new air duct system. I hired James Clagg with JKZ Specialists, LLC to help me with the decision. James is very knowledgeable with years of experience in home repair. First we made some adjustments to get water flowing away from the house but also determined that most of the problem causing the rust was from a 16 year old coil that was not draining properly causing condensation to flow into the plenum and air duct system. James then pulled together some of his subcontractors to repair the existing system. First, he brought in Johnny Hernandez at Seal-a-Duct that has a patented process to coat the duct medal joints and plenum with a product called Enviroliner. Once cured this product hardens to become similar to rubber to prevent any further rust. Since this is a relative new technology only time will tell if it will hold up for several years. The owner of the patented product does give a 15 year warranty. In addition, James rebuilt the plenum with concrete which was also coated with Enviroliner. Thirdly, James used another heating and air contractor to pull the old coil and replace with a new air conditioner.
