We began this experience on June 6, 2015 when a representative came to our home and gave us a bid for the job. We were told at that time that the roofing part of the job would be delayed due to the solid month of rain we had here in May. (Totally understandable.) But that we could expect the siding crew to begin 10 days after we chose the siding we wanted and trimmed the hedges back against the house. We had all of that done within 10 days and the order for the siding was put in. We heard NOTHING again until the end of July when we called and asked WHEN they were going to be coming and performing this work. At that time, they told us that the manufacturer had not been able to supply the siding, but that it would be in soon. (It would have been nice if they had called US to let us know that.)
Finally, on Thursday August 6, the roofers were here bright and early in the morning and got started. One of the crew left to get the new decking that would be needed to repair the damaged area at about 8:30 A.M. and never returned. They would have been finished with the job about mid-day, but they could not finish without the new decking, so a second man left to get the needed supplies. He returned at about 2:30 and within 30 minutes they were finished. (More about this crew in a minute!)
Around that time, two siding people showed up and started working. They worked until about 5:30 that day. Did not show up at all the next day - though I was told they would be back "first thing in the morning". They returned on Saturday, August 8 with a full crew and worked very hard all day long. Towards the end of the day, they were gathering up their things and evidently cleaned out their work trucks filling my trash cans with beer bottles, fast food bags and other stuff. (W**?) The crew leader said that they would not be back until Monday, but that they would be here by 8:00 to fiinish the job.
When I went out Sunday morning to look at the new siding, I saw that they had completely CUT OUT one of my front hedge bushes - to the ground! Again - W**!?
Monday nobody showed up until 3:30!!! And when they did, the crew leader was suffering the effects of a BAD hangover. So some work was done, but not much. They showed up the next and worked very hard and discovered that he roofers had not replaced all of the damaged decking and in fact there were rotten rafters under the decking that the roofers just threw decking over the rotten rafters and nailed the new shingles to it! (We knew that there was likely to be damage like that and we had told the company that we wanted all of that repaired, yet the roofers just covered it up and said nothing about it!) The siding crew was a bit unreliable, but thank goodness they were *honest*! So the siding crew repaired the rotten rafters from under the roof decking along with the repairs that they needed to make on the siding.
It was another day or two before the siding crew was finished with the job. They left without cleaning up and even left one of their ladders. When I walked around the house to check everything, I found that they had done a HORRIBLE job caulking around my back porch light (which no longer works), and they had not replaced the drip edge along the roof where they had to remove it to repair the rotten header/fascia boards and a couple of other minor things. I called the company to advise them of this and they assured me that everything would be taken care of "right away". I called again several times over the next few days and got the same responses - they never called ME back. Finally I just quit calling figuring that they would contact me when they wanted their payment for the work. That was finally taken care of on September 5.
On Sept. 9 they finally had another roofer come and replace the rest of the bad decking and re-shingle the area.
This company was THE WORST at returning phone calls and keeping me informed of what was going on. All of the labor that was done here was by sub-contractors and it was obvious that they were not very reliable to the company or to me as a customer. The work performed by the siding crew was excellent - WHEN they showed up to do the work. Their finishing and clean up work was not great, and there was NO reason that they should have chopped out that hedge bush! As far as I am concerned, the roofers were very dishonest by not telling us or repairing the damaged area of the roof as expected. I am very upset that they would just throw new decking over rotten rafters, shingle it and "call it good"! And I am VERY thankful that the siding crew were honest and capable of doing those repairs for us. We didn't object to paying for this work, but I shudder to think about what would have happened had they not found that unrepaired roof damage!
I have lots of photos of what went on here which I will upload if I can.
2015 spring hail storm roof repairs. It was a great decision!!!!
We?ll likely need to do it again someday and they?ll be the
company we make our call to for assistance with this repair---
and this is why we encourage you to do the same.
Approximately 4 years ago, we contacted Parker Bros. for a
free estimate due to a previously nightmarish roof replacement
by another roofing company. We appreciated the honesty,
expertise and professionalism of the Parker Bros. employee
who came out to look at our roof and discuss his findings.
We didn?t need a roof replacement at that time- but, made a
mental note of who we would call when we did.
Then?. came the 2015 Oklahoma spring hail storms.
Front windows broken - Skylight broken and leaking into
home - Roof leaking in attic.
After the storm passed?. We called the Parker Bros. office
and left a voice message about the damage that had occurred.
It was Friday evening about 6pm. We placed buckets in the attic,
tried to secure the leaking skylight by various means and
prayed the rain would stop--- hoping that we could hold on and
not sustain anymore interior or attic damage until Monday
when hopefully Parker Bros. would call us.
To our surprise--- Parker Bros. employee, Ryan Novak,
rang our doorbell early the next day------SATURDAY!!!
He was incredibly professional, knowledgeable and
immediately we knew the situation was in good hands.
It was amazing that within a few hours a crew was out to
our home to secure all the broken windows, the leaking skylight
and leaking roof. What a relief!!!
The rest of our roof experience with Parker Bros. was more of
the same. Ryan was exceptional to work with throughout the process.
All follow up was very timely, the initial roofing proposal was fair-
accurate- and clearly presented, the finished roof quality is superb
and all the employees we met along the way were very professional,
hardworking and polite. The roof was completed within one day.
We could not be happier.
Our home is secure and in order again. We know who we will call
next time? and with this information- We hope you do too!!
Thank You PARKER BROS. Construction & Roofing Co.
for being there when we needed you.
