before this visit I used a different Vet in Lawton... actually 2 different Vets since I moved here from TN, Dr Chambers and oak ridge animal clinic, and I have been so disapointed with the care my Animals were given there. In June Megan kept rubbing on her ear, and when I checked it out it looked like ear mites and a slight infection from her scratching.. treated her for it and checked the next morning just to find out that it has gotten worse. Asked different farmers out here who they had as Vet but no one seemed to be very happy with whom they had... so I came on Angies List and read through the Vets in my area, when I came across Dr Hammond... he only had a couple of reviews but they were all A+ so I went for it.. I called, received an appointment within a couple of hours. Once I got there, I was a little thrown off as it wasn't what I expected all Modern and stuff... But I know now that there is NO NEED For modern front office etc.... when you get a Vet like Dr Hammond taking care of you Animal. He checked Megans ear and at first it really wasn't clear what all the Blistering was and what caused the infection. Megan being a Diabetic and Blind had her share of Vets and wasnt about to just sit there and let the Vet dig around her ear LOL so he suggested to give her a short anesthetic to keep her calm... which was perfect... he shaved the whole side of her face around her ear and as much as he could inside of her ear... and there was the answer... Megan had rolled around outside in the Grass close by was a fire ant hill and them ugly things messed her inner and out ear up bad... Dr Hammond went and did a Biopsy to confirm, Cleaned everything out of her ear that could come out, mixed up a Cream, gave her a Antibiotic shot, put cream all over the infected area and by then Megan was pretty much awake again... I also asked him if he could test her glucose level, which were pretty high 276 which have been the same levels when I was seeing my other vets and they never adjusted her insulin... Dr Hammond told me to switch from the 15 cc way up to 25 cc and the next day when I tested her glucose levels... they were just PERFECT. he also clipped her Nails without me having to ask... he then went and checked Max my Smaller Dog who has a Heart Murmur stage 4... I showed him the Medication I was given by the other Vet... and he suggested to stay on 2 of the meds but substitute the Vetmedin to a Baby Aspirin... and it all is going well. Megans ear healed wonderfully, he Diabetes seems to be in check and Max is doing great with the adjustments of the medication. ALL in all... I Love my pets... we are Military and both my DOGS and Cat have been with us for 12 years and we moved several times, even to overseas and back... and here were we retire, I will be keeping Dr Hammond as my Vet for all my pets... He did not have a problem with me staying in the room and actually kinda sorta let me help while he took care of my pets... he didn't rush me out of the office even though I knew he was very busy... he answered every question I had.. I can only recommend him, I already had a Friend who went to see him Monday with her 4 dogs and she Loved it. And one great Plus... he is very very reasonable with his fees. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Hammond made time for us when we called his clinic because we thought our Corgi had broken his front left paw. He examined our dog that day and diagnosed the problem was not a broken bone but he had hyper-extended it.
Two follow-up examination were made to make sure that it was healing. We were very happy with Dr. Hammonds' service.

I was new to the area and I had a new male dog that needed to be fixed. I got the name via this list and made the appt. THey had good availability and the prices were comparable in the area. I found out thru questions that anaesthesia was additional at my request; apparently a common practice in OK. So that was extra. I never met the doctor performing the procedure, not before of after. I requested the bleed test because I did not have much history on the dog. He also needed a Rabies vaccine which was reasonable. The dog was okay after, nothing unusual happened but I just don't know how I felt after. I like vets that are engaged and meet the parents I guess and want return business.
Response from Hammond Veterinary Hospital
"I just recently began using our page on Angie's list, so this review has just now come to my attention. First of all, Duke arrived at the office before I got there, and left around 5:50 pm, (according to the transaction record,) after I left the office. The opportunity to visit with [member name removed] wasn't available, and I was unaware of her desire to meet me personally, otherwise I would have been more than happy to do so. We did NOT charge extra for anesthesia. I haven't charged extra for anesthesia in 14 years of practice on a routine outpatient procedure and likely will not in the future. The invoice clearly shows the record of anesthetic agents used, with zero dollars charged. They are recorded on the invoice for record keeping purposes, as required by law. This saved [member name removed] about $75, compared to having it invoiced separately. We charge extra for bloodwork, heartworm testing and pain meds. These cost more, so we charge for it. It's simple mathmatics. Not greed. We make relationships a priority in our business and in our personal lives, so it's disappointing to me that [member name removed] left feeling the way that she did about our practice. Hopefully, she will give us another opportunity to see us as we are, humble, caring servants to those in need."

Ive been taking animals to Dr. Hammond for 9 years now and I have NEVER had a bad experiance with him. He is amazing with the animals, large and small, understanding and sympethetic to their owners. I take horses and dogs to him. He sewed one of my horses up 8 years ago and there was never even a scar after, He's fixed a few of my horses' teeth along with other wounds and strains plus OB work on mares. As for my dogs, hes done amazingly well with them aswell. Sunday January 20th my pit bull puppy got food stuck in his throat and died, my mother gave him CPR and my boyfriend got the majority of the food out, at 5pm his breathing still wasnt better so we took him in, Dr. Hammond got the rest out and kept him until Tuesday. My puppy is happy and healthy again thanks to this vet! His staff is just as talented, caring and awesome as he is. They all love their work and show that they care. They can do it all and do it RIGHT! I will never use another vet clinic!
