Great guy, very giving, and easy to be around.
He did the job by himself and it took about 2 and a half days. Power-washed and did minor repair work the first day, painted the second day and a few hours on the third day. He replaced most of the nails in the siding with screws, which was good.
He used brush and roller, not spray.
The only real complaint I have is since he used a roller, he clogged up about 30% of the holes in my soffit vents. Time will tell if this will have a negative impact, but I still feel like he knows what he's doing.
Price was good compared to other painters (I had to buy paint myself separately, using his discount, which came to $200), but given the amount of time taken I think he may have been a little over-priced considering he is a one-man-show.
I feel very satisfied and would definitely use him again.
His original estimated time for completion was 5-6 days. The actual job lasted 8 calendar days but was interrupted with one rain day and one day off on Sunday. His work day usually started by 7:30 and didn't end until 4:30-6:00 with a short 30 minute lunch. I found him to be completely professional, honest, dependable, hard working and very easy to talk to.
Several items were noteworthy in making my final decision to choose Smith Painting over the others. Scott had to convince me he was insured (his agent e-mailed me a copy of the certificate of liability insurance within 30 minutes after my call). Scott told me he always uses Behr paint from Home Depot (much to my preference and Consumer Report's over the more expensive and more well known brand names). Scott's method of payment was one check due at completion with satisisfaction (no 1/3 down plus progress payments that are common with many others). Lastly the deal was sealed on a handshake, no written contract even though Scott did provide me with a short signed written proposal at my request for my own peace of mind (these days , the older I get the more cautious I become).
I would not hesitate to hire Scott again and again for any painting needs.
Would recommend him for any job you have. He will tell you if it's something he's not qualified to do.
