Lawn and Garden Sprinkler System - Repair

Bruce came out and I explained what I needed. He explained what would be involved. He gave me a written estimate. When I agreed with the estimate he gave me a timeline. The projects were done promptly and on budget. I'm very pleased with the results!

Welp... it turned out to be an exceptionally challenging job! First, let me just say how patient and kind Bruce, Corbin, and Felippe (sp?) were. I asked them right off if they would mind if I watched the happenings, because I love to watch and learn how things are made/put together/fixed so that I can understand the processes better. I'm sure they would rather I wasn't out there as much as I was lol, but my intent was definitely not to micro-manage something I knew nothing about, but to learn. Not once did any of them show a single bit of irritation at my questions and curiosity, they were only ever very kind. My sprinkler system is very old and was, apparently, put together in a rather convoluted way. Bruce (Maxwell) was able to find the missing zone box(es) within a relatively short time, where another company was unable to after several hours. But the biggest problem (and boy was/is it a problem) came from our large sycamore tree and it's prolific root system; our sprinkler lines and wires were literally encapsulated within the roots... swallowed whole (see photos)! Every proverbial corner the guys turned there was another large root in the way! Chain saws, sawzalls, axes, crow bars, and large metal mallets were amongst the tools used to fix a sprinkler system lol. Crazy! I couldn't believe the challenge -- and I was only watching, not doing the physical work (although I honestly wouldn't have minded helping). I'm definitely more educated now in the challenges that can take place in what I honestly perceived as a physical, but not especially complicated area of landscaping. Boy was I wrong. They are the most diligent, dedicated, problem solvers and were able to get my entire system up and running after A LOT of VERY hard work. It took longer than any of us wanted and expected; several days and a lot of hours were put in, through no fault of any person, but through every fault of nature. The final cost was more than we were planning on, but these guys worked so hard (which I would be ignorant of had I not been out there watching) and they earned every dollar. I am impressed with all of the quiet, quick after-hour visits just to check everything is as it should be. I'm grateful I discovered Maxwell Landscape Company and that they didn't give up on my "yard from ****" ;-). I'm hoping to use their services for years to come in the lawn and landscape arena, but really hope none of us have to deal with the sprinkler system again!

It was great, they came out and it only took less than 10 minutes! They were able to look at my system and tell me that i did not need to do anything to winterize my sprinklers other than to cut the water and run the zones. Based on their assessment, there was no need to blowout my lines or anything else to make sure the water in the lines did not freeze.

The services provided by Maxwell Landscaping were stellar in every aspect of the job. The professionalism exhibited by the crew was outstanding. They were punctual, quiet, non-intrusive and left the area spotless. During the project, we discovered a problem with our sprinkler system. They were able to perform necessary repairs, continue the project and complete the work on time. They recommended a ground cover, Vinca. After the first big rain had a serious problem with the topsoil washing away. I suggested a French Drain. They provided an estimate which I felt was to high so I used another contractor to install French drain which took care of most of the erosion problem. Fast forward 3months. The Vinca is not thriving and appears to be dying back. I watered every other day extensively as recommended. When I called to ask that they come out to have a look at the problem, they became argumentative trying to blame me because I had not used them to install the French drain... I told them the problem is not the French drain but the Vinca is not spreading. The owner Bruce Maxwell then hung up on me. So unprofessional.

"After speaking with the homeowner on the phone about his concern about the ground cover, I went to his home that afternoon like I said I would and looked at the ground cover and found the groundcover thriving in the areas planted but also found that there was some eroding on one end of the bed . The ground cover been misplaced due to the erosion of the topsoil. The drain that the homeowner installed is not working properly. I then left a note and recommendations for the homeowner at his door. I'm sorry for the dissatisfaction! Sent someone who could not speak or understand English the first time. He wanted to rig the control box with extension cords running across the garage instead of attaching to the wires run for the old box. I said no but of course he didn't understand. So I sent him away and called the owner. He came and looked at it and determined it could and should be hooked up as I was requesting. But he didn't have the box so he scheduled to come the following week. He left the old box just hanging off the wall. He sent the same guy back to insert the box. Again, We could not communicate well. The box got installed but he could not set it to run on even days only which is required by the city of Oklahoma so I couldn't have been the first one to ask for it. He just kept saying "every other day" and he set it to start on odd days. I kept saying that would not work. He just looked at me because he couldn't understand. Finally he just handed me the book and moved on to check all the heads. I showed them areas where the water wasn't hitting and we discussed where to move the heads. Most of the ideas were mine as he didn't seem to be coming up with solutions. I let them work and went inside to work. From my office window I saw them digging up where we hadn't discussed and the coverage didn't work. They also moved 2 heads to the wrong place and had to move them back. And then he thought all was good and he was ready to leave and I saw one of the sprinklers shooting way over the fence so I had to tell him that's not right. Surely a professional would know that. ..but the real kicker was the owner. When I called him to tell him I was not very happy with the service he blamed everything on me saying most of their customers did not bother them while they were working and weren't as "involved". it was my fault I couldn't understand him. Had I not been out there off and on to check things it would not have been done right. He could have just said he was sorry! Three days later I was working in my flower garden - 20 feet away from the sprinkler head they were digging on, and I found a big piece of sod they didn't put back around the head. In fact they tried to hide it in the flower garden. Unbelievable they call themselves professionals.

"I'm sorry you were not pleased. I think there were a couple of problems here. First of all your system had been neglected for many years with an outdated controller and heads that had been covered and grown over with grass and really low water pressure. It was a challenge to ever find the heads. Secondly, you knew more about what needed to be done and how to make the repairs than we did. He moved heads so you could get proper coverage and you would have him move them back. It was very frustrating for him as well as myself. I've done this for over 30 years and have ourstandung reviews here and have been voted Landscape company of the year for the last three years in Edmond. Not everyone can be wrong! I was very pleased with the work that Maxwell Landscape performed. Mr. Maxwell came out and gave an estimate for the work I wanted to complete. His employees were prompt, courteous, and efficient. The lawn scalp was low to the ground just the way I wanted it. The spraying of the yard for weeds didn't kill everything. However, I have to blame myself for having them perform the work so late in the month of March. I called Mr. Maxwell and he was happy to send someone out and spray the yard again at no charge. The work in the flower beds was well done. They removed the old mulch and replaced it with Grade A Cedar. Again, the work was done to my satisfaction. I will use them in the future.

Excellent job replacing front yard - killing and removing existing weeds and grass, new topsoil and fertilizer, new sod - looks great. Replaced faulty sprinkler head and adjusted - waters perfectly. Highly recommended.

The crew showed up on time and immediately installed a new controller because the old one was burned out. They found an electrical problem and waited while I called a plumber and got the electrical system repaired. Meanwhile, they worked diligently to find the old, non-functioning valves and test them. Within two days, I had a fully functioning, 5-zone irrigation system, with all leaks repaired and new heads and other parts to replace the "dead" ones.
The owner, as well as the work team, behaved professionally and knowledgeably from the first phone call to the completed job. I would recommend this company for the most challenging problems. They performed with excellence and did a good job of repairing the trenches they had to dig to find and fix all the problems.
