We were given J M Concrete's information by a local concrete supplier in the area. I phone James and he was able to give me an estimate when he arrived a few days later. As agreed upon prior, I would be supplying all the supplies (rebar, sand, etc) so as to keep price mark-up down to a minimum. I moved the sand into the necessary area with my own equipment. After the crew compacted the sand and installed the rebar (which only took a partial days work) they began to ask my wife for a partial payment. We agreed to 25% of the price. The day before the slab was to be poured, they had to reschedule supposedly because of a chance of rain. However with most of the job being indoors, I was less than thrilled with what I thought was a poor decision. A few days later, they were able to pour everything and finish the surface within a day. Again, James asked for final payment, however the relief cuts still needed to be made. I informed him that when the job was completed we would pay him in full. James recommended to wait a couple of days to let the slab cure, then make the necessary saw cuts. However, he was back less than 24 hours after the pour to make the saw cuts and get final payment. After all the work was completed and we went to confirm the final amount owed, he proceeded to ask for a different amount. He claimed that he had "under-bid" the job and not included the portion of labor necessary to finish the porch area. We told him that we had received the same quote from him via fax and email. If a different amount was needed, it was at those points that he needed to step in, however not when he was about to receive the final payment check. Tacky and unprofessional!
Description of Work: I needed a contractor to pour concrete at my newly constructed barn. I needed a floor, front apron, and porch area totaling around 1500 square feet.
