I didn't press Beau on the issue because I knew that I would need some touch-ups to the tile after my plumber installed the tub. Several months passed before I finally got an appointment with my plumber, and I set up Beau to meet the plumber and me at the house. I spoke with him a few hours before the meeting to confirm, but he still missed the appointment and has not returned multiple calls nor emails since. I had to get another provider out to finish the job.
So far the work has held up well, after nearly a year. The grout needs some touch ups but I think that has to do with having an old house that shifts a lot with the seasons. The work that was done looks good, but this review reflects that the work was not completed.
BEWARE!!!!!!
Had some work done by contractor Beau Hardt owner of Hardt Custom Tile he was highly recommended
He and his apprentice stole lots of jewelry and guns. I have recovered a few pieces which cost me $4200 so far. My losses for stuff not recovered are close to $50000.
A police report has been made.
DO NOT LET HIM IN HOME Or OFFICE!!!!!
BTW I also must hire someone else to complete the work in my home.
He later told us the initial crew that installed our tile floor were a bunch of frauds (but yet he sent them to our home). We called and texted him several times throughout the project to express our concerns as to how poorly the job was going. Two months after the floor was completed, Beau came out to our house to review in person. Once he looked at our floor, he apologized for how poorly the floor was installed and stated it looked "awful" and that he would "take care of us". Beau apologized time and time again and said he would make it right.
Not Beau nor the remodeling company had any answers as to how to repair our tile. We (not Beau or our remodeling company) started posting pictures and descriptions of our nightmare situation on national professional tile online forums. There we learned we should contact a local tile restoration specialist.
Frustrated that answers were not coming, we (not Beau or our remodeling company) contacted the local representative of the epoxy grout product used with our tile. The epoxy grout rep came to our home and assessed the damage. The rep agreed the damage on our tile was the result of improper installation. We discussed with the epoxy rep what could be performed to rectify the situation and asked him if he had heard of the tile restoration specialist we (again, not Beau or the remodeling company) had searched out and found. The epoxy rep felt the tile restoration specialist could remove the surface damage that Beau's crew caused and failed to be able to repair. The only other option given to us by our remodeling company was to rip out the entire floor and to reinstall it.
We soon learned from our remodeling company that Beau did not have the money required to fix our floor. Therefore, Beau and his company stepped away from the project leaving their project at our home unfinished.
In the end, our remodeling company had to hire a tile restoration specialist to repair the entire job at a cost of $4000. The wavy floor remains with us today.
"My experience with the member's job was a little different than the account that she has given here. I can't say that I'm proud of the outcome of the job by any means because of the member's unhappiness with the work, but some of the facts here are incorrect. First of all, Richardson Homes and I agreed at the time that 9 out of 10 people would have been happy with the job that was done. The member had some complaints that were legitimate but they the type of things that were hard to notice. There was some haze remaining on the tile from the epoxy grout and I remember having to stand in a certain spot so that the light would hit it in a certain way so that I could see the haze. Moreover, I sent my guys out there 4 times to handle the issues, but the member was never satisfied with the results. I don't know if they told the member, but I did offer Richardson Homes to pay for the floor to be pulled out and redone, and contrary to the member's account I did have the money, but Richardson Homes said that they were in a hurry to get her job done because she owed them money and they didn't like that option. They told me that they had a tile restoration company that could easily clean the tile for cheap and that was the last I heard from anyone about it. In any event, I deeply regret the way the member's job was handled. I could have done much better. I did have a large crew at the time because I was very busy and some of that crew were unworthy and have since been dismissed. The crew that tiled the member's job were fired because of the mistakes they made at her house. I learned a valuable lesson about spreading myself to thin and leaving my reputation in the hands of the journeymen that worked for me, I'm just so sorry that I had to learn it at the member's expense. My sole concern with my business has always been to please my customers and earn a reference from them and I do take it to heart when things like this inevitably happen. Even though the member was a little picky, she was always very pleasant and accommodating to myself and my crew. In retrospect I can see the mistakes that I made in this case and I wish I could change things but I can't, and I'll never make these mistakes again."
We are very pleased with our new shower overall, and it was Beau's idea to change our existing shower with glass door to a roman walk in type shower. However, when doing the remodel, he didn't follow our instructions initially. He ended up fixing it the way we wanted, but I felt bad because he had to redo some work, and I could never figure out why he did that without discussing with us. He either just forgot or ??
Beau was good about follow-up. The work in the bathroom caused sheetrock nails to come out on the other side of wall. They came back and fixed this.
As for punctuality: It took a week longer than they estimated, in part out of their control, but also because of lack of communication with plumber and not taking advantage of each available day.
As for professionalism: I didn't remove the clothing in the closet right by the bath, which resulted in everything getting extremely dusty. They later hung up plastic but I wish they would have thought to do it the first day. I suppose I am to blame for not taking the precautions to avoid this, but since this is their job one would think they would have had the foresight or courtesy to hang something up on the first day's work. Also, we gave him a key and let him just come and go, but he left one day with locking up the house.
Pricing: I think Beau is very fair on pricing, and he lets you use his discount to buy tile from vendor.
Overall, Beau is very nice to work with and does nice tile work. But I recommend being very clear about what you want and make sure he and his assistant don't cut corners.
