I have no problem with the quality & performance of our new carpet. It appears as was initially represented. This review is in regards to the actual installation. The installers were scheduled for a mid-morning arrival on a Monday. However, we were informed that morning that they would be delayed and would not be there until about 1:00 but with assurances the work would be completed that day. It was indeed completed by about 8:00 PM, but done so in what seemed a very hurried manner. None of the floor vents were replaced. All the bedroom/closet hallway doors were mismatched when rehung. It was obvious they didn't fit where they were hung, but they never stopped to confirm with me nor my husband which door belonged where. My woodwork was scraped badly and sometimes completely raw in every room & closet doorway. I'm sure this was done by dragging the backing of the carpet through the openings. My husband and I spent the next morning removing/replacing doors and restaining as best we could the damaged woodwork. This helped improve the appearance, but didn't fix it. Neither the store manager nor the salesman ever called back to see if we were pleased with the job and I didn't feel it was my job to call and point out the shortcomings to help them improve their business. I certainly didn't want a store representative back in my home. To be honest, I would have chalked this experience up to "you get what you pay for" (carpet was $$ but labor was free) however, last week I discovered that a small air vent that fits under the guest bathroom vanity had not been replaced and was just left under the sink. The carpet will have to be loosened and pulled back to slide this back in. I guess it was the last straw.
These were all problems I could actually see. I have no idea what's under the carpet.
what color grout to use, since he had failed to ask me and didn't include it when writing up the order.
The day of installation, the installers were to be at the house mid morning and didn't arrive til after 2PM...due to a scheduling oversight, according to the scheduling manager. Sloppiness included: grout left on every baseboard in the bathroom,
carpet at edge of tile was glued at odd angle at one end of room and glued down without pad underneath at other end, smudges of materials (grout, etc.) were on every wall and shower door, grout line widths started at 1/4 inch and narrowed to 0 along a wall, grout smeared over existing tile where mosaic was used to transition from water closet tile to new tile, sink was left dirty, entire floor was left gritty with carpet debris left on it. The installer told me to "have your housekeeper use vinegar and water to clean up the floor" that HE left dirty. The carpet in the bedroom was badly soiled. The installers tracked tiling materials they used in the bathroom out onto the bedroom carpet and laid their materials and tools on it. No drop cloths were ever used. No care was taken in any part of the job to treat the house like a company that cares for their customers and their customer's
property.
When the tiler returns to correct/clean up this project, even tho he was given the list of problems in advance and knew what was going to be required, he showed up without the materials and tools needed to do the job. Therefore, he had to leave the premises to go purchase them. Additionally, he didn't bring his saw and had to return the following day. Obviously, these 2 visits should never have had to happen.
After all the heartburn of having to be available for all the corrections and clean up, the final product was a nice job...but only after i had to micromanage every wall clean up and grout redo. Obviously, the 2 final visits should never have had to happen.
