Auto Service
I recently brought my pickup truck into F & R Auto Repair located at 409 S 9th Ave in Durant, Oklahoma. I was hearing some noise in low gear. I told this to the owner Frankie Dophied. He told me they?d check it out. After ?checking it out?, Mr. Dophied told me that the rear, outside bearing was out. He also told me there was metal in the oil where the bearing is. He told me they could replace the bearing, and add some oil for $150. He told me that if they changed the oil, it would be closer to $200. I found this odd. I asked if the oil needed to be changed, and he told me it did. So I told him to change it. I asked if that cost would be $200. Mr. Dophied replied that it would most likely be less, but $200 would be the maximum cost. I told him my check engine light was also on, and asked him to look at that. He told me to bring it in the morning. I brought it the next morning on. They called me about 3 hours later to tell me it was ready. I came to pick it up, and his wife Cindy told me that the cost was $250. I told her that was more than I was told it would be. Frankie Dophied heard me, and told me that it was a bigger job than he had anticipated. I asked him if the noise was gone, and he replied ?yes, or most of it?. I asked what that meant, and he said ?its now hard to notice, but the bearing was replaced?. I was not happy about that, but was glad it was fixed. I got in it, and noticed that the ?check engine? light was still on. I came back in and told him, and he told me they forgot to check that. I drove it away, and much to my surprise the same exact noise was still there! I brought it right back and told Cindy, who called for one of the mechanics. The mechanic told me that he would drive it with me riding with him. I kept telling him that he needed to drive in low gear, but he insisted on driving fast, ignoring me. He drove for many miles telling me he could hear nothing. I told him it was because he was not driving slow enough. Finally after about 10 or 12 minutes of needless driving, while my son had to sit and wait at the auto repair shop, the mechanic pulled into a cemetery, and there was the noise. He told me that he must have missed that. I replied that I had just spent $250 for the noise and problem to be fixed, when the noise and problem had obviously not been fixed at all. The mechanic told me he would drive it back and tell the owner. The owner (Frankie Dophied) came to the front and told me there was nothing he could do. I told him that I paid him to fix the problem, and he told me the problem was fixed, but it wasn?t. Mr. Dophied insisted that the rear bearing was in need of replacing, and was in fact replaced. I told him that all I know, is the noise that I brought it in there for, and overpaid to have fixed, was still there. Mr. Dophied started telling me that I was not specific enough when I brought it in to them. He also told me they ?can?t check everything?. I told him I was not the mechanic, he is, and that I had paid him to check everything. I also told him I don?t know how I can be anymore specific. He raised his voice to me and said, ?I?m already out too much labor on it, I'm not doing anything more, and that?s it?. I raised my voice and told him that was unacceptable. He then jumped out of his chair, jumped towards me over the counter, getting in my face very aggressively, and told me that he ?would throw me out of there if I said another word?. So my son and I left. The people at F & R Auto Repair on South 9th Avenue in Durant Oklahoma, robbed me of $250. They took money from me, for work that was not done. Despite what they told me. And even charged me more than the estimate. They are very crooked, and I advise anyone who is considering using them to think again.
