Approximately two years after we purchased our home, our microwave began emitting an electrical charge. This could be felt when the front on the stainless steel appliance was touched. My five year old daughter was the first to feel it. My husband is an electrical contractor and checked the appliance with a voltage meter. Sixty volts of electricity were surging to the face of the microwave, with it not running. The volts surged to more than 90 with the microwave on. Upon removing the microwave from under the cabinet, my husband determined that there was no ground wire connected to the plug. He assumed the wire had snapped off. He removed the outlet from the wall and found that there was no ground wire at all. It had not simply come loose or snapped. My husband removed over a foot of insulation from the wire to be certain. All Bolt had ran a "12/2" GROUNDLESS wire to this outlet. Under the right set of circumstances, this negligence/incompetence could have had devastating consequences. Since this wire runs underground and up through our slab, there is no way to properly fix this issue without significant cost and construction.
