Rick and his two hard working helpers started on Monday, May 4th.(Note: It was planned as a 5-6 day job) Removed all decking surfaces and support structures underneath. As part of this process, he discovered that most of the gazebo's vertical support beams had rotted out at ground level. Using additional wood, he braced the gazebo roofing providing added structural support because of dire and severe weather forecasts.
THEN ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 6TH, IT STARTED RAINING AND IT RAINED BUCKET LOADS FOR ALMOST THE NEXT FOUR WEEKS (it seems like). IT WAS THE WETTEST MONTH OF MAY STATEWIDE SINCE RECORD KEEPING STARTED.
The rain finally stopped and allowing the ground to dry out, he started again on Tuesday, June 2nd and completely finished the project on Monday, June 6th.
Although planned, removing the under deck structures took time and removing the earth (and hauling it off) was an additional burden during the first two days. This also took significant effort after he started again after the rain.
During part of the next four days, he and his helpers began installing the new below ground wooden support beams and their concrete pilings on which they rested. By late Friday, laying the new decking was well underway.
The gazebo problems presented additional issues which Rick took care of as he went along.
THE RESULTING NEW DECKING AND REPAIRS TO THE GAZEBO ARE ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. IT LOOKS GREAT. MY WIFE AND I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER.
