I bought this house in 2007. When I moved in it had no security features whatsoever. I called Advance Alarms because they had been the Alarm company my Landlord had used on my Condo previously and he highly recommended them. First one of their staff came out and met me and we went through the home discussing options, my plans, what I wanted, etc. Then the technician came out about a week later. He was a real friendly guy and it was a fairly big job. At one point he had some assistance from another tech. It took them all day, and they cleaned up afterwards (minor stuff, some drilling dust, wire clippings, etc) and showed me the ins and outs of the system. The system has worked great from that time on. Fast-forward till now. In May, after the tornadoes came through the neighborhood, there was a lot of workers, utility employees, Tree Service guys, Insurance adjusters, roofers, handymen etc etc around doing repairs.... and using this cover, the burglars were also out in force. The burglars, seeing my alarm stickers, shut off power to my house thinking this might disable the alarm. Then they climbed up onto the roof and broke out a skylight to gain entry, probably thinking they were avoiding door and window sensors that way. Which they were. Course, when they dropped down into my home they dropped down right in front of one of my motion sensors! Bam! They fled out the back door leaving their own tools on the roof and taking nothing of mine, however I had a broken skylight to fix. There was another problem, however. I now use VOIP as my main phone service, and the alarm's modem has a hard time connecting to the central office to report trouble. Combine that with the facts the crooks shut off my power--- what if they had gone the extra step and cut the cable and phone lines as well? The alarm would never report in.... So I called up Advance Alarms. Despite the fact they were very busy due to the storm damage (lightning strikes and alarms = not good) when I explained the break-in they immediately prioritized my call. The next day I was available another technician came out and installed a Radio Transmitter. Now, when my alarm goes off, it won't matter if the power is cut, the phone line is cut, or the cable line is cut. Advance Alarms gets the alarm signal.... I also upgraded my alarm with a key fob that allows me to dis-arm and arm the system remotely (think from the car, etc) and I love this! It's made the alarm as easy and convienenent as using my car alarm. The monitoring fee is higher then the standard phone monitoring ($30 a month, but that's because the Radio is leased, you can't buy it.) and it's an extra monitoring feature. I no longer have to worry about the smarter crooks trying to disable the alarm system from notifying--- it won't work. I'm very happy with the alarm system and the service. They are always friendly and professional and I can recommend them highly.
