When a dog bloats, her stomach gets rock hard, filled up with gas. If the gas isn't released immediately, the stomach will turn over, twisting off the entrance and exit of the stomach and ultimately shuts off the blood supply to the organs of the body, including the heart and the dog dies a painful death.
I knew she had bloated. I called Muskingum Valley Vet and they "worked me in". I called Muskingum Valley Vet SPECIFICALLY because I knew they had x-ray equipment and they were the closest vet I knew of at the moment that had x-ray equipment. I knew that she needed an x-ray to see if she had flipped her stomach yet. If not, a tube could be inserted to at least release the gas and give me time to get my Dane to Columbus for emergency surgery.
The vet came into the room, felt her stomach, listened to her heart, put a heart monitor on her and said that she had bloated but had not yet torsed. He didn't offer an x-ray, didn't mention an x-ray. He gave her a shot which stopped her dry retching and flatulance, told us to take her home and give her 3 more Gax-X in an hour and see how she does. In those crucial minutes, this vet could have saved my dog's life simply by taking an x-ray. But they were "swamped" that day. Obviously, he didn't have the time and he wasn't concerned about my dog at all.
I went to another vet in the area, they took the x-ray and by that time, my dog's stomach had flipped and we euthanized her due to her age and arthritis along her spine.
Never again to Muskingum Valley Vet on the East Pike in Zanesville, Ohio. Nor, will I ever recommend them.
