This remodel project has been a nightmare from the start. The contractor was to start work February 11, 2014. He did not start till March 3, 2014. He was already given 2 checks totaling $22000. The subcontractors hired were shady at best. The electrician that was hired showed up to our house drunk everyday until one day he was passed out on our driveway. Police and paramedics had to be called to remove him.  It is now July 16, 2014 and basement is still not complete. The General contractor is now on his fourth crew attempting to finish. He has supplied us with nothing but excuses on why it is not getting done. The slate flooring laid is very uneven. Thick grout lines can be seen.  The laminate flooring laid has waves in it. Once again he claims that is how it is. I went to 3 different flooring places with pictures and they all told me it was laid incorrectly. To paint 1200 sq feet in the basement he charged $3000.  It is now being painted the third time by him because the walls are so uneven by the framers he had hired. He installed a water softener and the water softerner due to improper install leaked and semi flodded the unfinished area. Once again he blamed it on product defect. I told him to take it back and I will buy and have it installed by Lowes. They came to install and told me all the plumbing his crew did was very badly put together and the electrical outlet they installed in the ceiling was wrong. They said they could not complete install until electric was repaired by him. The General Contractor since the job began in February 2014 has maybe only showed up a total of 6 times to supervise the work(mistakes) his workers are doing. Dealing with this has caused undue stress and tension. I cannot honestly ever refer this company.
