DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY--unless you want to sit and watch each worker 100% of the time.
She called me back approximately 15 minutes later. They had just had a cancellation for the day after (one day before the showing). As unhappy as I was about the original cancellation, I was thrilled to get the cleaning scheduled before the showing.
The employees who came to the house were pleasant, courteous and professional. They walked through the house with me and discussed the myriad of stains which ranged from coffee, to dog vomit, to wood polish, to the great unknown. They spelled out realistic expectations for some of the worst stains, especially the wood polish. They even brought both of the possible scents for deoderizer into the house so I could smell them both and pick. (I chose Lemon.) They then proceeded to get out every single stain. Even the furniture polish; even the ground in dog vomit; even the old dog urine. The house smells clean and fresh, like someone has just scrubbed everything. And the carpets look practically new! The ServPro staff even left me a spray bottle of the lemon deoderizer so I can freshen up the house whenever needed.
So I needed to hire Servpro. Why? Why does anyone...they have a water problem. Mine was/is a fairly innocuous problem as it consisted of a small space and these guys know how to do large spaces. My initial impression is mostly what grinds my gears.
I scheduled an estimation appointment (~15 minutes) with a 4 hour window, that's right, four. I know the business quite well, but I also know how to use good scheduling techniques. Four hour windows for simple estimate work is just not acceptable and never will be. I don't care how big your company is or what your excuse. The nice side is, they do offer a 30 minute call ahead. So, maybe this does not affect you and you can leave work 30 minutes ahead and make it home in time. My four hour window was 10am-2pm and I waited at work for my 30 minute call ahead. The call did not happen. So at 2:15, I called Servpro and they were able to tell me that the appointment would not be happening today. They did waive the $75 estimate fee/deposit because of their failure, but they get a ding for professionalism and courtesy.
The rescheduled estimate appointment itself went smoothly. The estimator was courteous and funny. She told me that I (and my insurance company) would receive my quote the following day around lunch. She seemed to have a good idea how long these things take. The quote was ready two days later. Not a huge deal for me, but timeliness, here, and managing expectations takes a ding.
The quotation came through very high. I had a sense that this was just because I was going through insurance. However, Servpro's pricing is set. It just isn't very cheap. The quote was broken down thoroughly so I could see where the money was going. The men who would eventually do the work follow each line of the quotation to the 'T'. That is Servpro policy. Love it or not.
The best thing about Servpro is that they are so large, they are able to schedule the work quickly and get started. The two gents who showed up to do the work were mid to late 20s and seemed to lack a general sense professionalism. This doesn't usually bother me because it made them more conversational. They knew what they had to do (from the quote) and did it in the time they told me they would. My expectations were managed accordingly. My only problem with their work was they left a few bits and pieces on the floor and ground outside my house. Just a few, and if you have ever hired a contractor they mostly do the same thing.
Lastly is the pick-up/monitoring of the equipment that gets left in your house. Servpro is going to want back in a few times, so you are going to get another few four-hour windows. You already know how I feel about those. In our case, they came back twice. Once to check and once to pick up. The first time, as far as I know, things went smoothly. I was not at this appointment. The second time, Servpro did not keep their appointment window and instead came late. The gents who showed up to get the equipment were not professional, but they did their job.
All in all not the worst experience, but I assume this is their daily routine. Lacking some professionalism, lacking timeliness, but getting the job done. For such a large organization I expect some professionalism outside of wearing Servpro polos. Would I hire them again? If I had a choice, no.
with this company.
I would certainly use them again.
When someone finally showed up, the tech did a little bit of water extraction, set up two dehumidifiers, and a couple of fans. Of course he forgot to set up the dehumidifiers properly (I went downstairs a few hours later to check on everything and found the dehumidifiers spitting out water back onto the floor they were drying instead of draining into a drain). This caused me to have to leave the equipment an extra day. Then came the inspection. Because I have a security system, I had to come home and meet the tech in the middle of the day. Again, for a company that advertises 24/7 service, they only had times available from 10 AM to 3 PM for me to meet them at my home. I had to do this twice. Once for an inspection and a second time for the pickup of equipment. In total I missed a full day of work waiting for them at my home, and about a half day between the two subsequent visits.
All in all, for over $800 (and all out of pocket because my homeowners didn't cover sump pump failure), I could have purchased several top of the line dehumidifiers and called it a day. So, long story short, if you have a small water problem, don't call them. Just go to your local home improvement store and purchase a couple of dehumidifiers. It will be cheaper and faster.
