We contacted Kirkwood about installing a whole-house vacuum system after seeing a system demonstrated at the Home and Garden show.  We were making a 1500 square foot addition, as well as remodeling the older part of our home, and thought it was an ideal time to make the investment.  When we visited the shop in Springdale to discuss the product, we were impressed with the demonstration.  We had always loved our Dyson vacuums and thought they did a great job, but Kirkwood claimed that the Dyson vacuums had only a fraction of the suction that the Kirkwood system did.  Our home is in northern Kentucky and we were referred to the Cold Springs location for the installation.

The gentleman that came out to assess our project was extremely polite and knowledgeable about his product.  We felt very comfortable that the installation would be handled professionally.

Unfortunately, we have had problems with the system from Day 1.  The collection unit in the basement had to be replaced because it kept blowing apart, causing the contents to s*** all over.  The tube that is supplied to the older part of our house would not pull out without us pulling it to the point we were breaking out in a sweat.  It would not retract without us forcefully pushing it back in place.  When we tried to use it, the tube would collapse and almost completely lose suction.  We ordered an extra set of accessories for upstairs which were never delivered with the original installation.  After about two months of follow up phone calls, we finally had to go and pick them up at the store ourselves.

To be fair, I have to admit that some components of the system work really well.  We installed a mini port in our laundry room and it is super for cleaning out the lint traps, or sucking grass or dirt off your shoes when coming in from outside.  The accessories (the beater bar attachment, hardwood floor attachment, furniture brushes, crevasse tool, etc.) work very well and are convenient to use.

Kirkwood did replace the upstairs tube with a lightweight, more flexible tube, and it does retract properly.  However, it kinks every time we use it.  The suction on the upstairs part of the system is only okay now, even if the tube is not kinked.  I would not guess that it out performs our old Dyson. The downstairs part of the system seems to work better than the upstairs.  We got an under-counter outlet that you can sweep dirt into for our kitchen.  My expectation was that I would be able to sweep into that outlet's general direction and the suction would pull the dirt into the outlet.  You actually have to more-or-less feed the dirt to the outlet.

The straw that broke the camel's back and prompted me to write this review was when my husband recently complained that when he was insulating our basement, he discovered that the joints for the pvc pipe that the system's tube retracts into appears never to have been glued together.

I think that we have another call into Kirkwood in our future, and I hope that we can work out the bugs.  But after living with this system for some months, I would have to confess we are pretty disappointed overall.  I feel terrible about it because I know my husband meant this to be a real luxury, but it has turned into a big hassle and we feel like we made a bad investment.

The installer (Brian) couldn't figure out how to do the installation based on the initial inspection/estimate because the two main walls to be used didn't line up. He called Chris Kirkwood who came over to check the problem area again. Together they decided on a new plan and started the installation. Installation was completed the next day as promised. Brian did a great job, cleaned up all areas, and demonstrated how to use the system before he left. The only thing that still needs to be done is to repair two holes that had to be cut in the drywall, but that should be completed soon.
I love the system and am glad I had it installed.

Love this company! It is family-owned and you can tell by the personal service and pride they take in their work. I hired them to find a clog in our central vacuum system. Brian came out and did everything he could but quickly figured out he would need to cut pipe in the attic. He brought in an expert several days later who quickly found the problem, cut the pipe, retrieved my scarf and repaired the pipe. The technicians are upbeat and had excellent follow-through. Brian sold me an additional hose w/attachments and saved me money by letting me purchase the one he had used at the Cinncinati Home Show at a discount. They did exactly what they promised, they were consistent with returning phone calls and delivered merchandise when they said they would. I would definitely recommend Kirkwood for sweeper supplies and central van repair/service. They are on the BALL!

Took in my Kirby upright vacuum cleaner to be serviced, and repaired. They gave me an estimate of $150 to repair it, and came in under the estimate. They were quick too, and it wa the holiday season, which I would assume is a busy time. Highly recommend.

After explaining my needs to salesperson, he thoroughly demonstrated a Simplicity Synchrony upright vacuum. While it was considerably more money than what I could get in the "big box" stores, the sweeper surpassed suction, airflow, ease of use, etc. It uses disposable bags, which I prefer. And it's made in the USA! The only suggestion I have for Kirkwoods is to stock more of the items they say are popular. There was not one of these available in the city, so I had to go back in two days to get mine.

They were prompt and courteous. Their pricing was very reasonable as well. They completed the work when they said they would finish and called me to inform that it was ready. I was satisfied with their service.

On Saturday August 1st at 4:25 PM we purchased a Monster Floor Steam Cleaner. On Sunday when we attempted to assemble the product, the threads in the hole where the main screw attaches to the back of the steamer were defective. Thus, the screw would not tighten. When we arrived at the store on Monday to exchange the product, Terry T., distrusted us from the second we walked into the door. Right off the bat, he accused us of breaking the machine. In addition, Terry T. became unreasonable and accused us of not returning a gray plastic frame that was a part of the cleaner, only to discover that he absent-mindedly placed the frame on the counter next to the register. Then, Terry T. blamed us for not returning all the pads that belonged with the cleaner. When we came home later that day, we found no pads anywhere in our possession, which means that this ?lost? pad was either never included in the box, or once again, Terry T. misplaced it in the store. And to add insult to injury, in exchange for the defective cleaner, we were forced to take the display model, having no idea how many customers have handled it in the past. Terry T. initially refused to include all of the pads for the display model. He assumed we were lying about the pads, the plastic frame, and most significantly?the defective screw hole. When we tried to defend ourselves, he was condescending and accused us of being rude. We felt attacked, silenced, and made to feel like criminals. Terry T. behavior was reckless and unacceptable. We wanted to support a local business by shopping at this store. After this experience, we see the actual value in frequenting a big box store like Wal-Mart or Target. These stores are more than willing to work with customers who are experiencing difficulties with a product by allowing them to exchange or return merchandise without abusing the consumer.

I scheduled service on a central vacuum unit. Chris was on time for the repair visit, checked out the unit and determined it was running okay at the time. He decided to wait on repair, since it may not need it. He told me it was an older unit and may still need the new part at some time, but he would have it on hand and I could call anytime. He also decided not to charge me for the service call. He was very professional, friendly and helpful. If the unit does finally need repair I will be calling Kirkwood for sure.

Kirkwood's Sweeper Shop called me and scheduled an appointment for a rep to come to my home. Chris Kirkwood arrived as scheduled and answered all questions I had about the Beam central vacuum system. As it happened, Chris had a unit on his truck and was able to install it at the time of the initial appointment. He used the existing tubing and hose connections in my home, from the previous system, after checking to make sure there were no blockages and/or other problems with it. Chris was very friendly, neat and professional.

I have a really old central vacuum system that had 1 inlet disconnected. The wires were no longer attached to the actual part. They no longer make the part so he had to reattach the wires and get it going again. It took 2 trips, but it works great.

DROPPED OFF VACUUM ON A TUESDAY EVENING AND IT WAS READY ON SATURDAY. VACUUM WORKS LIKE NEW. THEY ALSO CLEANED THE VACUUM ITSELF. CONSIDERING I SAW THE FILTER REPLACEMENT NEEDED FOR MY VACUUM AT SEARS FOR $30, I THINK THEIR PRICE WAS GOOD.

VERY GOOD SERVICE. I BOUGHT THE VACUUM CLEANER IN READING AND HAD ALWAYS TAKEN IT THERE FOR REPAIRS. HOWEVER, THIS LAST TIME THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE CLOSING THE STORE. SO I HAD TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER COMPANY. I AM PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS.
