Auto Service
When my daughter brought her car home from Varsity she mentioned to me that it was running rough. I opened the hood and couldn't believe my eyes. First off the PVC breather tube was not connected and left off which was causing the rough running. Secondly I noticed that the oil cap was destroyed and broken into several pieces and just lying there loose. Oil was leaking from the oil filter because it had not been tightened properly. When I called Tom Birsen, the owner and head grease monkey, he became very abusive and fowl. He never offered to fix the repairs and denied doing them at first. I checked my daughters car just prior to her taking it up there, so I know this damage was done by him. I asked him just how could he allow someone's car to leave his shop in that kind of condition? Frankly he didn't seem to care. He finally admitted that possibly he became distracted and caused the damage and other issues. I asked him how he would feel if this was his daughters car of which mine depends on it for commuting to and from BGSU? What if she would have had a breakdown or ended up along the highway at night? He stilled didn't care. I had to drive to an auto parts store in Maumee and replace the broken filler cap. I also fixed the other items. I filed a complaint with the BBB which is now on file. I also have learned since this that many other people have had their cars damaged by this so-called expert mechanic. About a week later I received a letter from Birsen swearing and basically telling me where to go. I have made copies of this letter and sent to the BBB and local CofC. The Chamber of Commerce has banned Mr. Birsen and his company from ever becoming a CofC member due to this letter. The President of the CofC simply could not believe the words used by this clown. He remains uncredited with the BBB. I also made copies and posted them all around the area for others to see and warn them of his practices. Stay away from Varsity in Whitehouse, OH. I understand he left Maumee with many of the same problems to customers. He has tried other ventures with all failing. With not being able to handle a simple oil change I am thankful I didn't have him rotate the tires. He should be given the worse auto mechanic award for the year. I will be sending him a book entitled OIL CHANGE FOR DUMMIES. Maybe this will help him.
