Whitt's Roofing

Whitt's Roofing showed up when agreed and completed the work in a timely manner. However, I later learned that he had used the old flashing at the chimney instead of replacing it... After the first hard rain I contacted him and told him there was a leak around the chimney. He arrived the next day and applied some cocking. After the next rain, I called him again about the same problem. He returned a few days later when I wasn't home. He left a note saying he had fixed the problem but to call him if it didn't work. The leak was not fixed. At the next contact, he said he would return and install new flashing around the chimney. He didn't return and became harder to contact. After several more calls and promises to return, he quit returning my calls... I gave up on Whitt's and called a new contractor that was recommended by a friend. He completed an inspected from the roof and from the attic. He said that he couldn't determine why the roof was leaking and suggested he try some better cocking before going to the expense of replacing the flashing around the chimney. He then advised that the new ridge vent was useless because it was installed over shingles that were lapped over the ridge, and the sheeting was not cut to allow for ventilation. I paid again to have the ridge vent removed and another one installed properly.... While installing the ridge vent, it was discovered that the old shingles had not been removed from a section of the roof.... The additional cocking around the chimney did not stop the leak. I will now have the new contractor replace the flashing.. I've paid an additional $800.00 so far and expect the flashing to be another $400 to $500.
