We are satisfied. Urban active in Westlake, OH is now owned by L.A. Fitness. Quality is the same. Prices are lower.

I just use the pool.

She was very happy. It's a beautiful facility. We didn't use any of their personal trainers. It was a great membership. We would absolutely recommend them to others. They are open from five in the morning to one in the afternoon. The environment is fantastic. They were pretty good with communication and billing.

They are all over the country but the one that I go to is in Westlake. They are clean and friendly. They have plenty of equipment. They have lots and quite a variety of classes. There is nothing extraordinary about their staff or customer service.

The trainers are good. Their training rates are a little pricey and the facility is very nice. They have a lot of machines including treadmills and bikes. They also have a pool. They are good, I will use them again in the future.

I wanted to renew my membership and was quoted a great rate. I was told I needed to provide my credit card number to secure the price. I asked them NOT to run the number until I came in to review and sign the contract. The salesman said that was 100% fine because my membership didn't expire for another month. Of course, they ran it. When I brought this to the billing manager's attention via the desk employee (the mgr. wouldn't leave her office to speak with me), I was told a credit would be issued. Of course, it wasn't. When I spoke with the gym manager via a conference call with my credit card company, he accused me of lying, he tried to intimidate me by threatening to ban me from the gym, and then hung up on me. The corporate headquarter's phone number is disconnected and I was told by the billing manager that there was no phone number available for consumer to contact the corporate office. My advice; NEVER tgive Urban Active your credit card number. Use a check. As of today, no refund as promised.

Scam! Do not sign up for their personal fitness sessions. The trainer that sold me my contract told me that my sessions would last for an hour. I later came to find out that the sessions are 30 minutes each. Also, after your contract is up they will automatically renew your contract. ( They do not tell you that when you sign up for it, but it is in the fine print that I was stupid enough not to read carefully). I was charged additional 600 dollars on my husband's credit card without realizing it, after I thought my contract was finished. It took me forever to cancel my contact. You have to send a written form to headquarters in KY, which does not have a central phone number. It is impossible to verify whether they received your form and they will charge you an additional cancellation form. Otherwise, I thought the gym was too busy and poorly maintained

When I went to enroll, they made me make an appt. for what I thought would be an orientation session. Instead, the session consisted of taking down some facts, putting me through some exercises (but did NO testing for strength/endurance/flexibility, and NO sign-off from my physician) and THEN sitting me down for a hard-sell session about buying one of their fitness packages! When I said I was there for Silver Sneakers and wanted to use the gym and the pool, the "trainer "(who was more like a used-car salesman) said they did not have Silver Sneakers classes and that none of the classes they DID have was really appropriate for Seniors! He kept trying to pressure me into signing up for a year-long training package, and the more I reiterated why I was there, the more abusive he got-- bullying me about my "supposed" commitment and using my questionnaire answers to belittle me. I finally told him I would not be pressured and walked out. He even called me at home later in the day--- to try again to sell me the package, at a "special rate." DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE if you want to find someone who is interested in YOUR well-being! GO ONLY if you already know how to use their weights and machines, and DO NOT sign up for this so-called "training session"!!!!!!!!!

I am counting down the days until my contract expires so I can leave this gym. Do yourself a favor and go to a better value gym like westlake rec, avon lake rec, or fitworks in rocky river. If you do decide to sign up with Urban Fitness make sure you only pay around $25-29/month for a gym membership and make sure you DO NOT SIGN a long term agreement. Only sign up for month to month memberships. They are very pushy and say they can not do it but if you stick your guns they will fold and let you have a month to month agreement where you can cancel your membership at any time. Learn from my mistakes.

I joined Urban Active in mid December 2009. Upon joining I was given an appointment with a trainer for what I thought was to show me how to use the equipment properly. Instead I met with a very high pressure salesman who basically told me if I didn't get a personal trainer (at of course an extra fee) I would not get any results from exercising. Before I knew it I had signed up for a trainer. A few days later I was quite upset and felt I had been duped. I spoke with the training manager and was told I could not cancel my contract. Anyway I have a wonderful trainer named Erin and I feel great. I am now very happy with my decision. The only complaint I have is the place needs a good cleaning! I think they are working on that.

This is a really nice gym. The facilities and equipment are top notch. When you join expect the hard-sell on getting a personal trainer for big $$$. They look at you screwy if you decline the service. My biggest problem was canceling the membership. Very unresponsive, always someone else's responsibility, and continually charged my bank account.

They're just very unorganized. All the things they promised my husband they absolutely wouldn't follow through on because it was never written down, and they fired all the people who made the promises when they took over from the previous owners. They would not honor the kinds of things that they said they would. They're taking us to a collection agency. We have never had a blot on our record, and these people have done it. I'm not paying for services they never gave us. They had a new trainer every week -- they knew nothing. They're just horrible and horribly unorganized. Bad, bad place -- nice equipment, but they're not running it right. They overcharge for giving you no service, and they're just rude. They don't care. You don't know who to talk to to clear this up; they all pass it on to someone else. It's so frustrating.
