I can see this trickles down throughout the company. Everyone was a pleasure to deal with. The finished product looks terrific. Pricing is affordable. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

Contractor Service
Kevin, their foreman, and his team showed up on time throughout the project. They were able to salvage enough flooring from the first floor to weave and repair the second floor hall. Kevin was so skilled I was unable to tell where the repairs were done. They then refinished thestairs , risers and landing. They began installing the first floor flooring. The flooring was 3/8" tongue and groove red oak flooring with a 2" face which I had custom milled to replicate what was available in the 1921 Sears Kit House that was being worked on. They sanded stained and refinished the new floors creating a custom stain that was compatible with my refinished woodwork. Kevin and his team were here 12 days. They minimized their sanding dust with vacuums and cleaned up after themselves every day before they left. The floors look as if they are in a new house built in 1921 which was my goal. I have new handrails and furnace heat diffusers which look original. I am totally satisfied with the work. I recommend Hazelwood Flooring to anyone who wants a quality professional flooring contractor.

This was not a great install. We chose Hazelwood because our vendor of choice was booked up and we had a deadline to get the floors finished. The pricing was decent, but they did offer less coats of sealant than other vendors. The scope of the project was to sand, stain, and seal our stairs, upstairs hallway, and 4 upstairs bedrooms. The plan was to finish half of the rooms the week before July 4th, then move all the furniture to the finished side and complete the rest of the project. The actual job took a week longer than anticipated. Additionally, there was a hole in the floor that had to be repaired (which was included in the scope), then repaired again twice more, because the first 2 times, the work was not good quality. Every day a different set of workers showed up, so I had to explain issues again and again. At one point the lead person told me that a bad refinisher would leave swirls in the wood from sanding. I thought it was a truthful statement because their were swirls all over the floors.

You went with the silver package which is a 1 component polyurethane. With normal wear and tear it only lasts 5-7 years, a maintenance buff and coat is recommended every few years. A home that has more traffic and large animals will not last quite as long. Please feel free to contact us anytime as we’ve never had a review like this before so it’s a big concern for us."

Hazelwood Floors did a fantastic job. We had a large project. We had them install hardwood flooring in our dining room, living room, office, and upstairs hall. We also had them install hardwood on our stairs. They replaced some damaged wood in our foyer. They also refinished the floors in the foyer and kitchen. The floors look great! They arrived on time each day and cleaned up each evening. They were very careful to protect our cabinets, walls, etc. We couldn't be happier with the the job that they did. Everyone that we worked with at Hazelwood was very professional. We would definitely work with them again.

Summary: The floors looked good in the end, but the job took longer than it was supposed to and the company was not “meticulous” as described in their web site. We would not use them again nor recommend using them for other work. Additional details: The representative, Keith, seemed very professional, and they were quick in providing an estimate. We hired them over other companies based on the price and professionalism. The work was scheduled to take three days. It ended up taking nearly two weeks, due to a combination of factors. Among other issues, they were understaffed and had to redo areas that weren’t done correctly the first time. For example, sanding marks from the rotary sander were visible in several areas. To their credit, they redid the floors. In another area, they sanded an area (on the other side of a railing) that they weren’t supposed to. At that point, they had to finish it. When the job was finished, large strips of tape and plastic were left stuck to the walls in several places, some of the registers hadn’t been replaced, and the area in the garage where they had stored equipment was not left as clean as it was before they started. The biggest negative had to do with the damage to our refrigerator. The company suggests removing all appliances, noting that they can get damaged by the sanding equipment. It was not practical for us remove the refrigerator for several reasons I will not detail here, and the lower part was dented in the sanding process. We took the risk and took responsibility for that damage. However, the refrigerator also bore a large scratch at eye-level that was not due to the equipment. Rather, an employee had placed a metal magnet on our stainless steel refrigerator for some reason, which scratched the stainless steel when it was dragged across it. The company took no responsibility for this damage and referred us to their policy, which states that they are not responsible for any damage to any appliance that might be incurred during their work. They refused to give us the name of their insurance company to pursue our claim. The floors looked good in the end, but it was not worth all of the other costs (time, money, and inconvenience) involved with the project.

I'm sorry that you had a negative experience and it sounds like you are very pleased with the flooring work that was done and that your only qualm was the timeline and refrigerator incident. For the timeline, our guys are not perfect and they do make mistakes. However, as you stated, we resanded and fixed those mistakes immediately and without question. We did state on our estimate form, invoice, website and all over our emails that we highly recommend you remove appliances or you risk them getting damaged in the process. Our machines are incredibly aggressive and our guys are indeed very meticulous, however as I stated above mistakes happen and we cannot control these sometimes. It is stated on our website that we do our best to stay on schedule but delays happen. Additionally, we sanded a large area for free that would have cost you over $1,000 if I remember correctly because our guys didn't realize that area was not included in your quote. You were notified of the recommendation to move all appliances out and the risk it had and yet you chose to ignore our recommendation and now you are paying the price for it. Furthermore, you are deciding to give a negative review of a small family business for a mistake that you, in fact, made. You ignored our advice and now you are trying to tarnish our reputation for your mistake. I'm sorry that you decided to write this review a full year later and have clearly stated that you are happy with the floors."

Hazelwood Floors does amazing work. We hired them to redo floors in our century house -- living, dining, stairs, landing and 4 bedrooms. Most of that had been carpeted, and when we ripped out the carpet, we found 3 bedrooms in good shape; one needed some repairing to patch a section that had been cut out and plywooded (and someone painted a ceiling without putting down a drop cloth); stairs and landing were fairly grey; dining room needed a patch and had some weak boards; but the piece de resistance was the living room: multiple sections needed patching, and the floor had been both lacquered and caulked. We had another estimator come in -- he spent about 10 minutes with us, took measurements, said we needed to replace the entire living room and dining room. Craig from Hazelwood spent close to an hour on our estimate -- he really got down and examined the floor, said that it still had a lot of life left in it and showed us what was possible. His enthusiasm about our house was contagious. And he had a better price. Everyone on the Hazelwood team was incredibly professional and took great pride in their work. The results were beautiful -- patches look seamless, replacement boards blend in, the sanding work was perfection (and they had to go over that living room lacquer 5 times to remove it all). The stain and polyurethane coats are gorgeous. We even got a removable section put in so we could build a secret compartment under the floor. They kept the dust to the bare minimum and draped the basement to prevent our things from getting damaged -- and they did a great job cleaning up afterward. Hazelwood gave us what feels like an entirely different house, and we're so pleased with the results. We absolutely recommend them -- they truly care about producing the best work possible at an extremely reasonable price.

Contractor was a complete liar. They marked up the material over 30% and did a lousy job staining the floor. They had over spray on carpet and stain more than one foot up the walls. When we approached them about the job and fixing the floor, they stated we were responsible for touch-ups. Worst experience with a contractor in over thirty years. We own three houses and have never experienced this bad of customer service or workmanship. Would never recommend.

Craig offered to take care of those touch ups right then and there, it would have taken him 5-10 minutes to do so. Even though our website, invoices and estimates clearly state that we are not responsible for touch ups, Craig offered to take care of them immediately. [Member Name Removed] refused to let him take care of them. Then he proceeded to offer Craig $750 payment, when the contract that was agreed upon showed a balance due of over $3,000. Regarding material price, we provided with you with an estimate. You agreed upon the terms and prices listed on that estimate. If you wanted to purchase and order the flooring yourself you would have absolutely saved money. We have been more than accommodating with your project, it was originally scheduled in mid-April and the floors were completed early July after it was delayed 3 times. We bent over backwards to meet your scheduling needs. I am baffled by the comment about the stain on the floor as I have photos of your floor and your home that are all over our facebook page and website. Craig himself did your floors and did a flawless job. He inspected the floor after he completed it as well and did not find 1 issue. I'm sorry you feel the need to bash a small business as you are, both on here and the Better Business Bureau. We've been nothing but accommodating and honest and offer to fix any stain marks on your door casings. I do not believe you are aware of all of the facts in this case and we will see you in court."

Recently bought a house and the floor is old. I called Hazelwood floors to see different options. Christine is super nice and scheduled everything, then Craig showed up on time with samples. He is very patience and answered all my questions. They came up with a very reasonable price for gray wash the old oak floor and included my staircase too. They’re just so professional and so on-time. No push at all. Then the refinishing guys did an awesome job, Kevin is super friendly and he did everything he could to meet my requirements. I’m extremely happy with my new floor color now. I cannot remember all the names but just wanna say thank you to everyone I met in this team. They definitely want you to be happy with your floor, not like some other companies only care about money or got delay every time. I highly recommend this team if you’re also looking for a refinishing. Five star!

Hazelwood Floors did a great job on our floors. They refinished our existing hard wood floors in three main rooms of our house. We tore up the carpet in our 1949 house, and they took care of the rest. The guys they sent, especially Jacob, were polite, professional and knowledgeable. We have a small house, and we were living in it at the time of the service. When they started using a large noisy sander, one of the workers noticed my 6-yr-old daughter covering her ears. He went out to his truck and found a pair of ear plugs for her. When it was time to choose a stain, they put samples on the floor, and were very patient while we debated about colors. They were excellent about matching transition pieces between rooms to the newly finished floors, and gave expert advice when we didn't know what, exactly, we needed. Also, I was expecting the process to be filthy and stinky. It was neither. There was hardly any sawdust when they finished, and the floor stain was not very smelly. I would definitely hire Hazelwood Floors again the next time I need my floors refinished. I felt like they wanted my floors to look perfect just as much as I did.
