Everything went really well. I am finishing my basement and doing most all the work myself, however I decided to hire a professional to hang and finish the drywall. Bruce and Bobby Porter Jr. came out to my house on or about 10/28/13. I received their quote within 48 hours and gave them the notice to proceed on 11/5. They scheduled me for stocking on 11/11.
Drywall supplier showed up on 11/11 in the afternoon. 2 guys loaded all 120-140 sheets in my basement. Tough job, not having to do that was almost worth the price in itself!
On the morning of 11/12, 5 men from Porter showed up to hang the drywall. Throughout the day, they hung drywall on ceiling first and then the walls. 2 guys left for the middle of the day but came back later in the afternoon. They worked until they were finished, around 7:30 pm or so. I wish all 5 would have stayed all day and gotten done before then, but 1 day of discomfort was worth it in the long run. Also, my entire basement (and ceiling) was framed out with metal studs, installing drywall over metal is a little more time consuming that wood but these guys didn't complain, they just got it done.
On 11/13, another 6 or 7 or so guys showed up. The scrappers took out all the scrap sheet and pieces. A couple other guys taped and put up corner bead, 2 other guys mudded. The scrappers were done in an hour or so. The tape and corner bead guys were out of there in a few hours. The mudders were there until the end of the day (4:00 or so).
On 11/15, 2 mudders came back to put the 2nd coat on (I had smooth ceilings). They were there most of the day. The basement dried over the weekend (it took a while to dry being the basement and the amount of compound on the walls/ceiling).
On 11/18, 2 sanders came and sanded the entire basement. I was not home for this but they did a good job. They did not clean up after themselves. I contacted Bruce and informed him of this. 2 cleaners came out on 11/18 to clean up basement.
All in all, they project went very well. These guys are professionals. They do a lot of commercial work and apartment buildings, etc. They couldn't have done the work any faster....This would have taken me a month or longer to do, they did it in 4 days and it looked great. I would definitely recommend Porter Drywall, especially if you are doing a large project.

I contacted the company more than three weeks ago to get a quote for some drywall repairs in my laundry room. I was told I would get a callback to discuss an estimate. I never received a phone call back. I figured with the Thanksgiving holiday perhaps they were just short staffed. I called again this week and the person who answered apologized and said someone would call me back. Once again - no call. Unfortunately, because of this lack of response, I have to give them an D.

We found them on Angie's list, they came out right away and gave us an estimate and after we talked to a few other drywall companys we decided to use Porter. The only complaint we had was there was only one english speaking man in the group, so it made communicating with them very hard. However, they had the whole job done in one day and then their finisher came a few more times to mud, sand and clean up.

The experience was terrible.
The quality was horrible, they cut a piece of our 100 year old staircase off and sued us when we asked them to fix it before we would pay them. Do not hire them.

My wife and I bought our first home. It had fire damage requiring the entire home to be gutted (removed 10.5 tons of plaster and lath). We had to replace burnt floor joists, install a new electrical system, and all new plumbing. We had six months to complete the work and were on month 5 when our drywaller quit before he started. We needed to have the drywall hung in less than a week to have time to finish the drywall before the floors were refinished.

We called Bob Porter and he promised that they were the best around and would have the job done as requested. We met with Mr. Porter on Nov. 8 they reviewed the house and promised they could stock and hang the entire house for $3,495. They were hired on November 9.

The first issue we had was the supervisor Tom showed up unannounced to take measurements; luckily my wife just happened to be home. The next issue was they stocked the drywall on November 10th and did not follow our specific instructions not to use the second floor balcony and not to overload the floor joist by stacking all the drywall in one pile. They promised to have the project finished on November 15. They were to start work on Thursday the 11, but did not show or call on the 11th. On the 12th three Spanish speaking gentleman showed up without their supervisor (Tom) who promised he would be on-site while the work was being done. The three men with no drywall lift hung 9 and 10 foot ceilings and double hung the walls in the basement, first floor and second floor, and two stair wells in a day and a half. Unfortunately the craftsmanship did not keep up with their speed.

They installed 1/2 board on the ceiling in one stairwell (5/8and quot; is required by fire code), cut out receptacles so they looked like a chainsaw had been used and cut off a piece of trim from our main staircase with a key hole saw. They left all the drywall scraps in the house in the middle of the floor in each room along with their food wrappers and drink bottles. We tried to notify Mr. Porter, but he would not return our calls. After 4-5 calls someone finally contacted us. They made two additional attempts to fix the poor work, the first attempt they hung drywall backwards (paper showing out) in the stairwells because they did not want to bring in new board and were using scraps, the second time they did better, but did not fix all the areas we had mark and agreed together. We decided to allow our finisher to review the house and he agreed he could fix their remaining poorly done work. They sent us an invoice and we replied with a certified letter indicating that they would not be paid the full amount until the staircase damage was paid for and we asked them to sign a lien wavier and send it back before any payments was made. They did not respond and then in March they sued us in common pleas court. We settled to avoid legal fees, but still have a piece missing from our main staircase.

This by far is the worst contractor I have ever dealt with or seen. I am a professional engineer and have never seen any work this poorly done before anywhere.

They came and did the job as described. They made adjustments when I indicated they needed to be done. The price was what we agreed to. There work was crafted right and priced right.

The experience was okay! There were some communication issues with the staff, but they fixed any of the issues we had. The work they did was good, but there some communications issues.

An estimate was given on the day I called. Price was extremely reasonable. The drywall hangers were polite, very efficient and good at their jobs. They respected the properpty and took care not to leave any residual drywall or mess. This was a three day process. They always requested that I tell them a time that was convienent for me for them to come and work.

Overall the job went quite well. There were a few bumps along the way, like when the estimator lost my information and missed the estimate appointment. There were many steps to completion and a couple of times, the communication was not perfect. That being said, the work was done quickly and with pretty good quality. The various crews were pleasant and respectful of our home. Net is that we got a good quality job done in a reasonable time-frame for a reasonable price. We're completely satisfied.

AFTER MISSING THE FIRST APPOINTMENT (STRIKE ONE), BOB JR. ARRIVED, AND COMPLETED THE ESTIMATE. I RECEIVED BOTH A VERBAL, AND WRITTEN ESTIMATE WITHIN 2 DAYS, AND SCHEDULED THE WORK FOR A FRIDAY THAT I WAS OFF WORK. THEY CALLED, AND DELIVERED THE DRYWALL THURSDAY AFTERNOON. SOME DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE, BUT NO MORE THAN I'D HAVE DONE DOING IT MYSELF. THEY DID NOT START THE WORK ON FRIDAY AS PROMISED, AND OFFERED NO VIABLE EXPLANATION, AND TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY. ALL THEY COULD DO WAS RESCHEDULE, NO THANKS, I'LL GET SOMEONE ELSE BUT THERE'S STILL THE MATTER OF THE DRYWALL THAT WAS IN MY POSSESSION. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF PHONE CALLS, AND NASTY ATTITUDES ON BOTH OUR PARTS, BOB SR. FINALLY TOOK SOME TIME TO TALK WITH ME, AND WE SETTLED ON A CHARGE FOR THE DRYWALL THAT WAS DELIVERED WHICH WAS INVOICED AND PAID FOR. BOTTOM LINE, ACCORDING TO BOB SR., THEY DO BASEMENTS OCCASIONALLY, BUT THEY ARE REALLY NOT SET UP TO DO SO.
