Repair to our furnace after a power surge in our home

You know you have a good provider when you call with an issue, instead of immediately scheduling service, they listen and talk through the issue that you’re experiencing. Most recently, we discussed an issue with our A/C, they recommended I take a few steps myself before scheduling service, and whaddya know — it worked! I will continue to use Klein, without a doubt. Their charges are fair and their service is exceptional.

The replacement went well. Mr. Klein worked on a weekend to install our unit so we would have air conditions. The installers were professional and very knowledgeable about the system.

The technician was great! After he arrived and diagnosed the issue, he knew exactly what needed to be done, had the parts in his truck, which meant service could happen moments after the diagnosis was complete. There were a few interesting situations in the layout of my utility room that made the job tricky, but he did his best and it was more than enough!

Responded quickly - found the issue - found a solution - got it fixed.

This all happened in the middle of a heat wave, so Klein was swamped with calls. They fit me in as best they could, however. The technician was easy to talk to, explaining things well and not making me feel foolish. When it came to making recommendations, he did not try to get me to buy the most expensive units but gave me a couple of more economical choices that he felt were solid enough that he would use them in his own home. He put in long hours to complete the work without becoming unpleasant; I trusted him and was not disappointed! The folks in the office were great, too!

We've used him for probably six, seven years; does excellent service.  I don't think it cost anything for this visit because I signed up for yearly maintenance, so he comes out once in the Fall for Winter service and then once in the Spring.  What keeps me as a customer is probably the level of service that he gives.  He comes out here, if it takes him an hour it's an hour; if it takes him 2-1/2 or 3 hours, that's what it takes.  But since I'm on a maintenance contract it's only one fee.  For price, he's extremely fair because he will show me what everybody else will charge for like to replace a motor or replace this or replace that.  He does take the time, like he totally checked our system out for carbon monoxide leaks to make sure that the combustion chamber was doing what it was supposed to do and was efficient at the highest level.  He goes above and beyond just the normal vacuum it out and be done with it.  I've had other service before, but all the newer units have a moisture pump on them because as you burn the gas during the Winter it does create moisture, and it's collected.  And basically there's a pump outside of your furnace that basically pumps it into a drain.  But I asked the other organization about replacing that pump and they said $500.  I went on another provider of service lists and the pump itself was $55.  It took me 25 minutes to put it in.  They called back and wanted to know whether I wanted the service done or not.  I asked them very pointedly, if the pump costs me $55 and you're gonna charge me $500, what's the other $445 for?  That was about five years ago and I'm still waiting for an answer.  The guy said he would get back to me and that's the last I ever heard of them.  And they are a company that's well known here in Columbus.  I was not amused.  I was not happy.  So at that point I just took care of it myself.  The one I've got today is computer controlled, so that's why I have Fred Klein come out and take care of it.  He's right about the average I would say, or a little bit below average, but he's not at the high end.  I have not had to call him back out.  When he's done, it runs like a Swiss watch.  I've literally sat down in the basement and asked him how these different things work and he's taken the time to explain it to me and to show it to me.  I'd give them A's across the board. 

I was not home at the time of service but my wife was. After troubleshooting my problem she called me so I could talk to the tech/owner. He informed me that my blower motor was bad and that it would cost $683 to fix it. At that time, it was my assumption that the motor needed to be ordered and I was not told otherwise. I then told him I would get back to him and he proceeded to charge us for the service call. The next week, I called and asked that they come back out to complete the repair. The tech arrived on time and completed the job in 2 hours. In the meantime, I looked online and noticed I could get the exact motor online for $92.15. When he was complete he brought the bill to me and stated I owed $696. After asking about the cost he informed me that it was flat rate and it didn't matter what time and materials cost. Sooo... even if I paid him $79/hr (which is their hourly rate) for 1.5 hours drive time, that would mean I paid over $400 for the motor. I explained that I would pay whatever but was very unhappy so that he could have the opportunity to make it right... no such luck. It's very unfortunate as we have spent well over $6,000 with this small company. Someone should tell them that customer service is everything in the service industry. Now time to find a new HVAC contractor.

Excellent experience - Fred found and repaired the problem quickly... and explained it fully to help us avoid a similar issue in the future. I would definitely hire this contractor again.

The work isn't finished yet. Like everyone else around here, they are swamped because we are having a heatwave. It's an older system, so I know it was on borrowed time. He tried to band aid fix, but it didn't' work. He is now investigating the best unit to get. I felt that I had a lot of trust in this guy. It was bad news for me, but I really appreciated the way he handled everything. Because they are going to replace it, he is going to built the cost of this visit into the final replacement. I called the company the next day to tell them how much I appreciated them. I am going to give them a "B" on responsiveness, but it's not their fault. We have been having a heatwave, so they have been swamped. In fact, the guy that was here on Monday, was here for an hour at 5:30 and had five other calls after me. He was right on time. He was very good in explaining things and not feeling that any question was too stupid. He gave me honest advise about the replacement units and understanding my situation.

My furnace stopped working a couple of days before Thanksgiving. I called one company, and they no showed, and then called back the next day and said they could come out that evening. I should've know better but I rescheduled. After just a few minutes they put on a big show that my heat exchanger was cracked and was leaking carbon monoxide, and that they would send someone out right away to give me a quote on replacing my furnace. They then left, and left my furnace on! I remembered seeing a recommendation for Klein from a good friend on FB. I called him, the day before Thanksgiving, and he came right out. He was surprised that the previous company had left my furnace in the shape that they did. He walked me through his entire, very thorough, video inspection, monitoring the gases. He found some rusty spots, but couldn't find any cracks, but did find vent blockage which he cleared. He assured me with his monitor that CO was not leaking into my house, but went out to his vehicle and brought me in a CO alarm to make sure I was comfortable. (My house has one, but we weren't sure were it was :) ) On Friday he called the furnace manufacturer and found out that the exchanger had been recalled, ordered a new one for me, and came out and installed it. Cost $500 as opposed to the over $5000 for a new furnace. BEST SERVICE EVER!!!! From scheduling through his wife Amanda to cleaning up after service!! Will be calling them again soon to for an AC tune up!

I thought it was a little pricey but my wife seem to think it was fine. Quality was excellent, we have had really good luck with this new furnace and I am pleased with this company. There wasn't anything about it except from my point of view, the price could have been a little lower but you get what you pay for.

We bought our furnace from them and it has been great. I can't say enough about them. I am just glad that we got the furnace from them. The fellow who runs it -Mr. Klein is very knowledgeable and very helpful. There was no charge for the service. Excellent, we have had really good luck with this new furnace and I am pleased with this company. He was great, he came out on time. He was very helpful all the way around. I would use him again in future. He will be out for regular check ups.

Family-owned business that I found through Angie's List. They made an 8:30pm house-call the week of Thanksgiving because they did not want us to go another night in the cold. Determined the issue, came up with a temporary fix to get us through the holiday week. Spent the next day determining if we had a warranty on the unit. He was honest about the part we definitely needed to replace and then a part that was most likely going to need repaired down the road. I highly recommend, not only their prices, but also for their honesty/integrity.

I have had many service inspections on my AC/Heating systems over the years and have used several different contractors. Klein Heating and Cooling is the best I have ever hired. Purchase a service contract and they just finished my fall inspection. Very thorough and I so appreciated how the owner, Fred, spent time showing me the ins and outs of my system and had a few suggestions that will help improve my comfort and efficiency. He was neat, professional, and very invested in making sure I was satisfied and happy. Great job Fred!

Amazing! Fred is just plain great! He tells you what needs done, why and how much it will cost. Despite another company installing a new furnace for me, it always had issues and Fred was able to both tell me why and how to keep it running. He didn't pressure me to replace it, or even suggest I do so, but I wanted a furnace that just needed yearly service and he was more than happy to quickly install a new furnace that did just that! He's willing to show up whenever needed and is always super prompt! He checked my water heater while servicing my furnace and told me when to expect to need to replace it so I could avoid having a huge watery mess one day! I recommend him to all my neighbors!

They'd be an A all across. I'll absolutely use them again. What is good based on our experience is their promptness and willingness to do whatever, whenever. They're just very responsive.
