I wanted to share a recent experience with a local roofer. Feazel roofing who I had used for years on several job. Feazel replaced our roof ~9 months ago. The roof is already showing mold growth and has ventilation issues. I had no such issues for the previous 9 years in our home with our old roof. Feazel refuses to assist in any resolution, and as a result I have to resolve on my own. I had quotes from a few companies and chose Feazel, and I now regret that choice. I wanted to share my experience so others who might be in search of a roofer could go elsewhere.

I phoned at 8am on 3/6. The person asked if they'd done work at my address. I told her yes, and when the work was done. She said she'd 'send it to warranty, and they'd look at the archives' and call me. Toward the end of the day, having received no call, I phoned again to get an estimated response time. She said, 'one to two days.' As they had already had a day, to me that meant they should call no later than 3/8. They never called. In the meantime, on the 9th, I phoned three other reputable companies. Two of them came on the 9th, and one is scheduled today. In all likelihood, I need a new roof--well inside the materials warranty. A 25 year warranty on materials is worthless if the materials are installed in a haphazard or shoddy manner. In fact, it seems that the warranty reflects that the installation may have been designed to fail, so that they could later choose to honor the materials warranty, but charge an exorbitant price to correct heir poor workmanship. A roof should last at least close to the warranty period. I had to have shingles replaced in 2015, which were loose in 2014--and my delay resulted in not just having to replace the shingles, but having to replace the drywall in the ceiling because a leak finally developed in the room underneath the damaged/missing shingles. The company has been sold since the (mis) installation of the roof. Somewhat sad that they kept the name, but wont stand behind the work associated with the name. Their commercials are well done---their work/reponsiveness--not so much.

We had moisture in the attic that made the sheeting dip between the trusses on our ten year old roof. We called Feasel and the sales person came out to our home and walked the roof, checked the attic, and determined we needed more air circulating through the attic. He gave a quote that day and we signed a contract. The workers came out in the afternoon of the first day and started to replace the sheeting and started placing the shingles. Two additional days later they were done. My husband sat on our swing in our backyard and noticed one of the workman pulled out the vent for the water heater and laid it on the roof. Then when the worker put the vent back, my husband questioned whether the vent was attached. It was not and there was a space between the two pipes allowing carbon monoxide to leak into the house. In addition to this, the roof shingles were not laying flat in several places. My husband talked with a lady in accounting about our being unhappy with the raised look of the shingles when he discussed the bill. When nothing was done, he called the owner and within a couple of hours a project manager called. He was very nice to deal with and he made sure that everything was taken care of, including replacing shingles and calling in a HVAC person to replace the vent pipe inside the attic and through the roof. Moisture was building up on the nails of the raised shingles so two more vents were added for the exhaust fans in the bathrooms . They also installed 12 more soffit vents for air circulation.

Don't believe everything you see on TV! There is an Ohio roofing company (whose name rhymes with WEASEL!) that allocates the bulk of their marketing budget on television ads on multiple channels every 5 minutes. Let me preface this by noting that he ladies that make up the corporate back office are professional, delightful, and are charged with making certain that “complaints” made public go away as quickly as possible. This in no way reflects on them. Conversely, the sales force and management team…entirely different story. They have declared themselves as THE Insurance Claim Specialists. Although I secured multiple bids from other contractors, these men are masters of manipulation, and have you committed to contracting with them before you even realize what’s happened. Initially, the finely tuned corporate functionality rivals what one would find on the floor of a Maserati showroom ……right up until your signature and their contract collide. At that moment, the honeymoon comes to an abrupt end. The sales and management team reminds me of a cluster of testosterone propelled boys on the first day of their senior year of high school. They are a combination of charm and above average appearance. By simply adding the two attributes together, the result has been sales and revenue. Unfortunately, the void of genuine customer care, absence of quality control, and consistent inability to exercise honesty or integrity is beginning to catch up with them. Their standard operating procedure in addressing customer dissatisfaction caused by their ongoing negligence and supervisory oversight is to merely run it from Level 1 to Level 4 in a seemingly scripted manner! Typically, people who believe that they are going to beat the system at the expense of the public at large don’t make the asinine moves that these guys make. Their contracts are ambiguous and, assuming you are given the entire contract, fail to specify a start and end date and address remedies for unforeseen problems found in the contracts of reputable contractors. When I signed my contract to replace the roof, soffits, and massive leak in a rental property , I was assured they would start within 21 days. That was October, 2016. They have only done half of the job never bothered to go back to the house to inspect it enough to accurately bid on it. Had they been professional and completed due diligence, their bid would not have been almost 800% too low! They are so predictable that they will come back with "there was hidden damage". The enough soffits were missing the day that the adjuster was there that he and every other contractor were able to view it. Of course, if that wasn't enough, you could have gone to the 2nd floor balcony and touched the rafters like I did. What is even more egregious is that they remain in a binding contract and have allowed the house to continue to deteriorate because they refuse to do the work for the price that THEY drafted the contract for because the profit margin isn't acceptable - yet it is more than 2x current bids. When I met with the CEO, I expressed my frustration with going into a contract assured that the work would begin within 21 days – which was a year ago this month. He flippantly informed me that they had “Hundreds of customers ahead of me” and did not deny the fact that they routinely use that as the standard stated timeframe they give everyone when they sign a contract. They were fully aware that this was an income producing property now uninhabitable, but since Feazel wasn’t the one losing income, it lacked significance. I told him that since they were aware of this at the time, they should have removed themselves as a viable candidate to do the job. He agreed, and even chuckled. Feazel has no moral or ethical compass. When you start throwing in Binding Contracts boys, it’s getting ready to get real! You can’t legally secure a contract if you are aware that you can’t meet your commitment. Deliberately coaxing clients into a contract based on lies is unconscionable. Speaking only of personal experience with Weasel I've dealt with Breach of Contract, Fraud, Conspiracy to Commit Insurance Fraud, and complete disregard for every aspect of the Ohio Consumer Sales Practice Act. Your company has cost me thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours of my time and clean up work including the task of cleaning up tons of wet drywall on my hardwood floors, and being saddled with more than $12,000 in damages caused by your substandard work and negligence (although they first tried to convince me that the water somehow violated every aspect of Newton’s Law), destroyed the quality of my life for months and brought it to a halt, and they are generous enough to allow ME to walk away from a binding contract? Rest assured, that ship has sailed. I gave you ample time to make this right, but you are in a position that you lack the skill set and common sense required. The Peter Principle has caused you to out-kick your coverage. I wish someone had posted an "Approach with Extreme Caution" warning out there before I ever called them. Like I said, they will have no question that I am the one who exposed them and they have my number. I would never risk being sued for Slander unless I was able to prove every word. He knows that this is only a sampling of what I have. Honestly, I HOPE they come after me…DO IT ROSS!!! There’s nothing that I would enjoy more than to put¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ you in front of someone wearing a long black robe with a wooden gavel and 12 Consumers who are sick and tired of being denied the ability to hire a contractor without the fear of being taken advantage of. Once again, you people are predictable. If a letter of response doesn't come flying in, it will be the 1st time! What you don't want to do is deny a word I have claimed because I WILL post the documents and the photos that support my claims.

Although the quality of the roof is great so far, interactions with their sales staff left a bad taste in my mouth.
I originally asked for a "worst case scenario" estimate from Jeff when he came over. He originally told us $4055.00. He then called an hour later and asked to come back because he did some calculations wrong. He apologized and said the "worst case scenario" would be $5010.00. Quite a difference, but it was still better than other estimates.  My wife then said if he gave us insulation for free we would be ok with it. Jeff agreed.
The replacement was only supposed to take a day and after the roof had been ripped off, Jeff's new estimate was $8560.00 and that included the cost of insulation. Jeff denied making that agreement with my wife and said that is not something he would have agreed to.
We were over a barrel at this point (no roof), so we agreed and they replaced the roof, but did not finish until the next day and their roofers were working on my roof till 10 PM that night. I don't know how they could see.
We also found a partial ring of nails for a nail gun in our bushes a couple weeks later.

I did receive a call from Ross to discuss this review and he informed me Jeff no longer works for them and he apologized for the treatment I had received.
Response from Feazel Inc
"Hi [member's name removed] Thanks for taking my call. I'm happy that we were able to connect and proud to hear you are happy with the quality of the roof Feazel installed for you. As for your concerns, and as I mentioned over the phone, I will be diving into your file more deeply and you will be hearing from me soon as we discussed. I hope we can come to a mutually satisfactory conclusion to this matter. Sincerely, Ross Appeldorn, CEO"

They actually showed up one day earlier than anticipated, finished the job and cleaned up by 5:30 in the afternoon, including collecting all nails on the ground. They did leave some debris on my patio table, but I cleaned that up when the weather got better.  They claim to offer a $500 off the price if anyone could beat their price.  I did get a lower quote, but did not share it with them.  I don't think it makes for good business to give up part of one's profit based on price.  I could have replaced the roof for enough less to have covered my deductible, but opted to pay the full price, including deductible, to get a known entity to do the work, and not have to fight with them over it later.

Feazel did just fine, followed up when completed to make certain I was satisfied.  I had a leak, and they sent a crew who determined it was a hole in the chimney boards, not on the roof.  They proceeded to make temporary repairs to the hole with no additional charge.
