We had been trying to diagnose a mysterious odor in our home for more than 4 years. We talked to HVAC guys, animal control experts, engineers, plumbers, other home inspectors and lots of friends and neighbors - all to no avail. Josh called and offered to stop by our house, for NO CHARGE, to see if he could be of any assistance. He was en route to a PAYING job downtown and went out of his way to come over to my home. I explained my concern and he took me seriously - even though I was a woman and not paying him. He listened to the litany of previous attempts to diagnose/fix the issue and was actually curious - did I mention that he offered to do this for FREE?
Josh spent a significant amount of time exploring various rooms in our home, including on a ladder, trying to solve the dilemma. While he was inspecting s specific space, it occurred to both of us the problem could be a non-structural source - and SNAP - it was. An Indian tufted rug in our home was causing the burnt rubber odor I had been smelling for years. Online research confirmed the problem, which is widespread and long-standing. Josh thought it was pretty cool to have come across a new homeowner issue he could put in his knowledge base. And he still refused payment - despite the fact that he had SOLVED my problem. WHAT CONTRACTOR DOES THAT??? 
Contractors work hard, especially family-run companies. Their time is money. They deserve to be paid well for their expertise. For Josh to take time out of his crazy busy day to help a total stranger, with no expectation of compensation, then be as thrilled as I was to solve the problem, is just nuts. NOBODY does that. He was patient, thorough, asked great questions - and listened to the answers, instead of assuming he "had heard it all before." He is the best.

What a wonderful and actually FUN experience. I called By Lions during lunch time and left a message which was immediately returned and an appointment was set up for the home inspection. They were actually able to get me in within a week of calling which was excellent because we had a quick close date. It was such a pleasure to do business with Josh. He is extremely thorough in his work and explains things so that they are understandable to people who might not know much about how all the mechanical aspects that come with a house. I was moving to Columbus from Cincinnati so I signed up for Angie's List to locate providers in the area since I didn't know anyone personally to get referrals from.  I went off the ratings on Angie's List and contacted By-Lions to do the home inspection on the home I wanted to purchase in Columbus.  The people at By-Lions were very understanding of my situation and the urgency that I had to get it completed and were able to work me into their schedule quickly.  I was driving from Cincinnati and I met them at the property. They were right on time!  The inspection was thorough.  At the end of the inspection the inspector sat down with me and went over the preliminary findings.  The actual report arrived within 24 hours and was very professional.  I was able to quickly work with my realtor to identify the items that required attention.

I was very pleased with how long the process took because she went through this place with a fine tooth comb.
There were a few issues with the house that she did not feel comfortable offering just her opinion on and she suggested we get a professional in that field.
I appreciated her honesty and her level of integrity.
She was inside the attic the crawlspace and on the roof she did not miss anything!

The inspection included the attic, the electrical and plumbing systems, the basement and furnace, the air conditioner, all the windows, the roof, the foundation and he looked for mold in places where it was likely to be found.  It was a complete inspection and could not have been more thorough.

My husband and I were in the process of purchasing our first home and we chose By-Lions to complete our home inspection. The inspector was very timely and friendly in guiding us through our first home inspection. We really did not know what to expect, but he was extremely helpful in explaining to us what he was doing and what he was looking for throughout our soon to be house. The inspector answered our questions in detail, stayed until everything he found had been clarified and provided us with an extensive report including photos. We would recommend him to anyone looking for a quality home inspection at a very reasonable price!

We were in trouble based upon a home inspection that was done by a competitor of By-Lions. Their report was vague and 'scary' to a buyer in contract and the buyer backed out. I called Forrest and asked if he would do an inspection of the property so we could see what his report would say. He came over and did the inspection and what a difference. He found many of the same items the other inspector found, but the report was more clear. We used this report as evidence that we were disclosing all issues with the house and the next couple that came through bought the house. Forrest came back and walked through the house with the buyers, explained the few conditions at length, and the buyers were totally satisfied. If not for Forrest and his professionalism, we would have been left with a problem. Use this company and know that they are knowledgeable, professional, and very personal as well. The value of his report cannot be measured in dollars. It was a great deal at twice the price he charged. Give them a call. You won't  regret it.

I recently used By-Lions Home Inspections to help in the purchasing process of my new home in February. The inspector was extremely knowledgeable, timely, professional and thorough during the entire inspection process. He even took time to explain several different aspects of the home that might have been overlooked by other companies. I was impressed with the diligence and individualized attention the inspector placed on this home. I would highly recommend this business to future home buyers that are looking for highly qualified inspectors who are capable of making this experience positive.

I chose By-Lions based on the positive reviews on Angie's List.  The Office Manager, Gail, was friendly, helpful and fully explained the home inspection process and what to expect.  I called Saturday and was scheduled for Tuesday.  When I arrived for the appointment, two individuals were waiting for me.  The owner of By-Lions, Forrest Lines, who performed the Termite Inspection and Radon Test and Danielle Fritsche, who performed the home inspection.  Both were pleasant, professional, efficient and very detailed in their work.  They were patient with my hundreds of questions and pointed out things to me that I never would have thought to ask.  The inspection took three full hours. 

Today (Thursday), as promised, I received a 36 page Home Inspection Report (which included numerous photos), a Wood Destroying Insect Inspection Report and a Certified Radon Report.
Working with this company was positive from beginning to end.  I recommend them highly.

I was concerned with the thoroughness of my inspection, mainly pertaining to the inspection of my roof.  The inspector was a larger man and did not feel comfortable using a ladder to inspect my roof.  When I expressed concern about the roof not being properly inspected, he tried to assure me that it was okay based on viewing the roof with his binoculars from a far distance.  I was unhappy with that answer because without a proper inspection of the roof, he did not really know.  It is extremely important that you have the inspector physically get on the roof to inspect it.  I was concerned that he may have inspected everything else just as carelessly.  He was instantly ready to move onto the full payment as if it weren't a big deal that he never got on the roof. 
After owning the home for about a year, I have run into a few problems that the inspector could have pointed out if the inspection were more thorough.  Overall, I believe there are too many quality inspectors in the market to go with a mediocre one like this.

Forest and his team are wonderful. They did two different home inspections for my wife and I. The first deal ended up falling threw so once we found another house Forest was our first and only call. He took his time to go threw everything with us. If we would ever decide to buy another house in the future they would be our only call once again.

The home inspection was very thorough and I really like how they publish the report online and email you the link so you access it anytime, anywhere. Everything was on-time, and we appreciated the Angie's List coupon of $65 off. Would definitely recommend!

Forest did an excellent job.  We have used him for 2 home inspections and were very pleased with the process both times.  The first time he identified problems with a house that we ultimately decided not to buy due to conditions he brought to our attention.  He is very knowledgeable and takes time to explain things in terms easy to understand.  He is very thorough and seems to enjoy his work. We would highly recommend him for any home inspection.

Although Forrest was very busy and about to leave for an out of town conference, he scheduled the home inspection with only a few days' notice, and was very accommodating in scheduling it for a time that was convenient to all parties involved.
I arrived at the house at the time to find Forrest and his crew already there. We had to wait awhile for the owner to let us in, since the realtor's office had failed to inform him, but Forrest took it in stride and was quite cheerful about it.
I stayed for about an hour while he showed me some of the more serious problems with the house, and then left. In all, the inspection took about 2 and a half hours. They even managed to find the tiny attic and enter it to inspect for any possible problems. Forrest offered many useful suggestions and gave advice as to how we might handle several problems that the team found. All in all, it was a very meticulous inspection, and provided us with a lot of useful information for our negotiations with the owner.

We hired By-Lions for a home inspection of a house we are in the process of purchasing.  We chose them based on  Angie's List reviews (and the coupon didn't hurt).  The company was very responsive - I left a message and the owner personally called me back to make sure his staff had been able to assist me with everything I needed.  The owner did the inspection.  He arrived promptly.  His inspection was thorough.  He pointed out many things along the way, and answered all of my questions during the inspection.  His report was good and prompt (the next evening) though did leave out a few things he had verbally identified during the inspection (it is good to take your own notes at these things).  The inspector was clearly very experienced and I had confidence he knew what he was doing.  The other nice thing about this company is that they contract with radon and pest inspectors to have all three occur at once, and saved me the phone calls of arranging them all separately.  Not all companies do this!  The pest inspector they worked with was fantastic, came during the home inspection, and pulled me aside to show me things to look out for in the future, as well as everything he was finding at the time.  The home inspector set up the radon machine and arranged the report to be sent to me.  Overall a great experience, though wish the report hadn't left a few things out.  Would use them again and take better notes next time!

The inspector was courteous, thorough, knowledgeable and professional. He was up on the roof, in the attic, down in the basement and walked the exterior of the home.

A detailed inspection was completed and they addressed all of my concerns and addressed concerns that would a problem in the future. I was impressed with the quality of the service.  There were three guys there to do the inspecition and Forest was there to.  They were all very professional and friendly.  The best money spent on my house.  This was a duplex and it had some concerning issues  and I was concerned about my investment.  They were great and addressed everything within the house and the outside, including the roof.  GREAT! GREAT@ service would highly recommend.

Forrest was punctual, informative, knowledgeable, and very pleasant to work with. I will use him again in the future and have already recommended him to friends. Very thorough and extremely good work! We were satisfied.

We used By-Lions twice and both times they were very responsive, accommodating, prompt, affordable, knowledgeable and very thorough with all inspections. I would highly recommend Forrest as a home inspector. We will be using him in the future should we be be in need of his services. He answered all of my questions and conducted a meticulous assessment. He was able to give an overall assessment of the home's conditions and in addition catch many small problems that would have totaled higher dollars. He was on time and delivered all of the reports in a timely manner. He was clearly passionate about his work and understood that this is a stressful time for home buyers.

Everything went fine but the Inspector missed the following Items to be
checked. These items were not in a working condition and if it were
identified, I would have got them repaired at seller's cost.

(2) Calling Bell
(3) Front Lamp Post

Forest was on time and performed a thorough inspection. He answered all my questions and explained everything so I understood what he was talking about. I used the coupon available here on Angie's List. Even with the coupon he was a little more expensive than some other home inspectors but I chose By-Lions because of the reviews.
