614 Design and Remodel

Michael performed a full remodel of our master bathroom and we couldn't be more happier with the results. I would like to provide as comprehensive review as possible from our first interaction until job completion: First Interaction - January 2020 My wife and I bought our house in 2017. Our house was built in 2013. The prior owners had a septic issue that caused $25k of damage in the Master Bath right before we purchased. While the prior owners rehabbed the damage, it was poorly finished. Thus, we knew we had to fix the poor construction. In January 2020, my wife pursued several referrals from friends to hire for this job. It felt like dating as each contractor came with their own issues. Too expensive, not engaged, not responsive. This led my wife to research options on Angie's List. She contacted Michael and received a very quick response to come out for a quote. On Michael's first visit, we were sold with Michael's approach. He was very direct and transparent with his approach, his remodeling philosophy and his timeline. Ultimately, we received two comparable bids; Michaels and someone else. We selected Michael because he was more responsive, was equally excited to work on our project and simply, easy to work with. We selected Michael in January; paid our deposit and were advised of a ball park start date of June 2020. Pre Project Planning Between the time when we selected 614 Design (January 2020) until project go-live (June 2020), our world forever changed via COVID19. Michael was very responsive and transparent with providing updates to us on when his last project would finish and our project would launch. This was important to us as we worked from home and had the kids there during the early stages of the pandemic. This allowed us to plan appropriately while we had strangers in our house for the first time in 3 months. Michael was also upfront and strategic with planning expectations. Based on our remodeling plans, he provided us with a purchase item purchase list as well as recommended stores to select from. He also provided guidelines as to when each item had to be in the house to keep the project on-time. That was extremely helpful. The list was daunting and his guidelines helped my wife and I prioritize our selection process. Its not easy making all these selections :). Project Go-Live Michael hit his target go-live date. He arrived on a Monday and quoted roughly 30 days to complete the project. Our only other experience with a contractor was at our previous home with a basement finishing that took 6 months. We were leery of his 30 day quote. The project went quick as Michael projected, but I must say he did not sacrifice speed for quality. Michael was very thorough in his work. As he worked through the various stages of the project, he would constantly offer advice and feedback with this detail or that. Michael has a very consultative approach, meaning he provides options for us to choose from based on his experience. It helped us weigh the pros/cons of each decision. Project Completion Michael ended completing the project in 30 days as first projected. We were very happy not only with the timeline, but the quality of work. After the project completed and Michael moved onto the next, we noticed a slight filmy texture on the tile floor. We tried to clean it but it remained. We contacted Michael to inquire on a solution. He came out the next day and was able to remove it. That action spoke to not only the integrity of his company, but his dedication to quality. Recommendation In a world of so many contractors, it is tough to know you are making the proper contractor selection when choosing to remodel any part of your house. I recommend you include 614 Design and Remodel for any remodel project as part of the quoting process. While you should gather several quotes, I challenge you to balance your decision making process between both cost and the professional approach of each contractor. 614 Design and Remodel should stand out near the top if included in the quoting process!

We are very pleased with the results of our bathroom remodel. Our very small bathroom walls were not plumb, corners not square and ceiling not level. You can’t tell that now. The shower seems bigger and the tile work is first rate. The project was done quickly with the team showing up on time each day. The recommended suppliers were first rate and all spoke highly of this contractor. This contractor is skilled and I would not hesitate to recommend him.

When it comes to talking about 614 Design and Remodel I don’t even know where to begin. First, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a retired Engineer who has had little faith in contractors due to past experiences. To be honest I hated contractors. I’ve had plenty of disappointments due to contractors not meeting my standards which I admit are pretty high because of my profession. I am very particular when it comes to finishes which is why I have resorted to doing the work myself in the past. A while back when I was in the process of retiring, I was also relocating closer to family. Originally, I was planning on remodeling the new home myself since I would be retired and could spend time doing the work while our old house was on the market. I found 614 Design and Remodel through a friend who had used them to remodel their Master Bathroom and Half bath. I was actually only planning on reaching out to Michael (The Owner) for help with installing the Hardwood floors in our new home. A task I wasn’t willing to take on myself. He came out and gave us a free in-home consultation. We could tell within minutes that Michael knew his stuff and was an experienced contractor. We signed the contract for the floors and were very happy with the price. Once the project was close to being started, I realized I wasn’t getting done as much on the rest of the house as I would’ve liked. My job was prolonging my retirement because they needed my help much longer than expected. Once I saw Michael and his crew’s expertise in action, I knew I could trust them to meet my standards. I ended up hiring him to take on much more of the home renovation than I expected. He pretty much remodeled the entire house. He put together the Master bathroom suite, installed new flooring in guest bathroom and laundry, helped me stain and finish a good amount of trim and doors in the house, re did the living room fireplace surround and mantle, installed a new exterior French door, painted the entire interior of the house and much more misc. items. The most important part was that I enjoyed having him in my house. He is trust worthy and he treats us like family. I have since then hired him for a second time to build and finish a wood shop in my basement. This project has been quite the challenge since I am using special products to eliminate noise from transferring to rest of the house from the wood shop. Once again Michael and his crew have gone above and beyond to get everything perfect and exactly how I want. He has gone way above my expectations. We highly recommend 614 Design and Remodel. We worked with the owner, Michael, to renovate our master bathroom, which included removing the corner jacuzzi tub and linen closet, expanding the shower, designing and building a bench and cabinet for storage, retiling the floor and shower, replacing all light fixtures, towel bars, etc. and refacing our existing vanity. Michael is very knowledgable, trustworthy, and easy to work with. He provided his professional opinion when asked and was able to give us feedback on design choices based on his experience. He has high standards and takes his time to make sure the end product is absolutely perfect. We appreciated that Michael was the person doing the work every day, rather than subcontracting the work to others. Our bathroom turned out beautifully, and it's clear that the work was done by someone who knows what he is doing.

614 Design did an amazing job at completely transforming our master bathroom. They were very thorough with their work and went above and beyond to work with me to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. He said from the beginning, 'I am not the cheapest but you will get the best quality with me' and I appreciate him being up front but also 100% agree that I got the quality I was looking for! I also appreciated that I was responsible for getting most of the design materials so I had full control over how much I was spending. Michael provided daily updates and showed me exactly what he was working on each day to ensure that there was no re-work due to miscommunication. I can't wait to work with them again on other remodel projects!

Having Mike Baker, owner of 614 Design and Remodel, update our bathroom was a great experience! Mike met with us initially to go over our thoughts of how we wanted to change our master bathroom. Mike followed up in person with a quote, an estimated start date and list of store recommendations for us to buy all the materials we needed to get prior to the start date. Mike was timely, efficient, perfectionist, clean, and trustworthy. Mike showed up everyday at the same time to get to work. He would complete the daily jobs efficiently and clean up daily. He was organized with his tools but also in the process of completing the job. He was a perfectionist where he would go above and beyond to make the bathroom the best. He sampled 3 different grouts to see which one looked the best. He would have ideas that would make it look better and explain them to me first. He went an hour away to order special barn doors for us. He took apart the pebble mosaic tile to lay in the floor of the shower so it wouldn’t have a lined division. It was the little things that made it better. He would clean up the work space everyday, which was nice. And most importantly he was very trustworthy to have around. In addition to the bathroom he also painted our master bedroom, closet and laundry room to coordinate with the bathroom and tile floor was installed in the closet, bathroom and laundry room to make it fluent. I would highly recommend Mike Baker, owner and operator, of 614 Design and Remodel, for bathroom renovations and remodeling.

I am in love with my new bath/shower combo. Michael was very timely and efficient. We had a couple of bumps in the road with my tub being crack from home depot but he gladly handled the issues on my behalf. the repair took 4 days total and I couldn't be more then happy with the results. It made my bathroom look completely different and beautiful. He knows what he is doing and remained professional.

Mike has been the most professional and highest skilled person I have hired to date. Having experience in real estate investing, I have hired several workers and found most time there is a lack of attention to detail and the wanting to “perfect” the finishing touches. Often times I have had to manage work very tightly as to achieve my require outcome. Enter Mike from 614 Design.... on this particular bath remodel I needed someone with exceptional skill and attention to detail as I needed to be hands free. Having come highly recommended, I was blown away with his attention to detail. He custom built the entire shower including pony walls, and custom built the tub surround. Everything was built to spec and perfect. Even more, I was comfortable with leaving him a key and having him in my home, which was extremely important. Considering what he built from scratch,his price was extremely fair.

This remodeling project was one of the best experiences we've ever had. These two stand up guys demonstrated excellent workmanship with unequalled work ethic. They delivered what they promised us and often went beyond that. There were no hidden charges and the quality of their work exceeded our greatest expectations. They also offered advice showing that they are very familiar with remodeling projects. We are proud indeed to show the end product to our friends and have no problems recommending them.

Mike and his helper took two and a half days to install.  Did a fantastic job.  This is not the first job that was for me by The Right Handy Man.  Have hired this company since 2012.

I don't think I will be able to find all of the right words to express just how much I appreciate the work Michael Baker did for us. We have had awful experiences with other contractors. Kitchen tune up who had been doing our kitchen and was one of those awful experiences told us to install our kitchen backsplash, it would take them 30 hours to install 41 sq ft and would cost $1200 after a $400 "credit" they were applying so in reality were telling us it would cost us $1600. Michael did the backsplash for $650 and installed the chandelier and all but the grout in one day and not even the whole day. He came back to finish up and was only there a few hours. I would say he got it done in probably 10 hours. When kitchen tune up came back to fix more of their work, they raved about how awesome the backsplash looked and actually thought it was one sheet of subway tiles that looked like backsplash because it was done so well.

Kitchen tune up had left me to get the supplies with no information if they were going to do the backsplash other than where I could go to get it. Michael gave me all of the details from what kind of grout to making sure I check the dye lot of the tile so the color matched. I guess kitchen tune up expected me to google that, not sure.

He also did our outlets in the kitchen. One wasn't working when he left which I only mention because of how quickly he came back to fix it. It is amazing how many contractors won't do that.

My praises don't stop there. He has leant us his ear and his advice in certain contractor situations. He has also provided references to us for other reliable contractors, one of which we are having paint and one of which just saved us from a plumbing nightmare with all of our frozen pipes breaking after another contractor didn't do what they were supposed to and took $450 from us.

I have gone as far to say that I have felt debilitated by not being able to trust the people coming into my home to "help" us and end up costing us hundreds of dollars. It feels so wonderful to not feel that way about Michael Baker and wish I would have remembered to go to him for references before we had tried anyone else after him.

He moved all the kitchen appliances and did a wonderful job.  I never have to stand over him to make sure things are done correctly.  Very good worker and reliable.  He is the Right Handy Man.  In 2012 he located a leak in a chimney that 3 other Handy men could not find.  I recommend him to many senior citizens as he is honest and not a scam artist.

The new look is stunning!  This is a small space which makes it difficult to work on, but Mike worked his magic and the new look is structurally sound AND beautiful:  a winning combination!  I especially appreciated Mike's flexibility.  My house was a "House of the Future"...in the 1950s when it was built.  Hence the galvanized pipes that initiated my contact with the Right Handyman.  They had corroded and had to be replaced:  not an easy fix because my ranch does not have traditional plumbing.  Most of it runs up in the attic and down some walls.  That makes for some interesting problems to address---and Mike never missed a beat.  The small bathroom was totally transformed:  new floor, new sink and cabinet, a fresh paint job, and best of all, the problems were addressed with sound solutions!  

I especially appreciated Mike's cheerful demeanor when "a new wrinkle" presented itself:  he came up with viable solutions every single time.  It was also good to know that I could leave my home in his capable hands when I had errands come up.  I heard about him from multiple sources who had used his services and all accounts were the same:  expertise, honesty, and trustworthiness.  As a single, older woman who is "mechanically challenged", I particularly value this combination.  Mike is a straight shooter who told me my options from the get-go.  He consulted me about every step of the design in the bathroom prior to making the purchases and we shared info via text pics for making some of the choices:  a real time-saver!  We discussed price range and he never pressured me on any purchase:  another trait I really appreciated.  Replacing the pipes was a major undertaking, but nothing really "showed" (aside from the improvement in water pressure).  

It was necessary to do, but not gratifying.  The bathroom remodeling was also necessary due to the water leaking, but it has been a daily source of enjoyment.  The paint job is immaculate and "spot on" and the cabinets and sink and even the new faucets are just the right complement to the room.  Small spaces are challenging, but the Right Handyman knew just how to handle those challenges and then some!  I would highly recommend this company!

LED lights, in laundry, hallways, and closet. He installed a new
kitchen faucet fixture, along with new garbage disposal, and replaced
weather stripping around the front of the garage door. Additionally,
Mike fixed an exterior security sensor light. More importantly, Mike
planned and built within the garage an interior wooden ramp allowing a
handicapped spouse safe comfortable entrance and exit without concern
for the weather. Mike always displays a positive, friendly, and relaxed
attitude. Mike easily works harmoniously and effectively with his
clients, achieves maximum time effectiveness, and always demonstrates a
