Quality DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY. Sometimes reviews are all consumers have to go on. We moved to Cincinnati in the chaos of covid and needed a reliable company. With the start of new job and 3 kids starting school, we needed a professional to make sure our family was moving into a safe environment. We found this company to be dishonest and it costs us thousands of dollars! Brian Recher was our inspector. Missed very obvious problems we were only aware of after we bought the house. We had to hire another home inspector after we bought the house because of all the things missed. That inspector (who was amazing and less expensive so do your research) agreed that these things should have been caught by a professional credible inspector/company. We even had Brian back to our house to show him what he missed so things could be made right. He refused to even set foot back in the attic (only 1 of the pricey issues). He said, "That is why I have insurance..for instances like this". He even asks what it would cost to make the repairs (had no idea at the time). They consulted a lawyer instead and I just got a letter saying they aren't liable. Mold, rodents, leaks....the list goes on. We had to hire an environmental hygienist and a mitigation company. Now we have to get lawyers involved. He even had an inspection report the sellers had done prior to the house being on the market. We assumed everything was fixed. Why was I (a novice in the field) able to find leaks, mold, and a hole going into our attic (infestation) days after we moved in?! Heck, after starting to get suspicious I crawled in the attic myself and found old and new nests. Buyer beware! This could costs you $$$ if you go with the wrong company!

Was on the receiving end of an inspection. They damaged our house during the course of the inspection and did not inform us of this. We found out by going to our home several days after the inspection. Pillar to Post is a franchise and you will find them all over the country just like you will other franchises like Papa Johns, McDonalds, etc. I don't think some people realize this. In the past I have, and will continue to, use only independent (non-franchise) inspectors. Also notice they do not respond to any reviews here on Angie's list. For evidence of other unsatisfied customers go look at their Yelp page too. I don't ever plan to use this company.

I spent over $1,000 on the inspection. From the day I have moved in there have been nothing but issues with this house. Most of which were visible if the inspector had taken the time to do the job right. They are refusing to make anything right. I have spoken to a lawyer and was told I have no claim. Don't bother using them. They are not even a member of the BBB.

Our inspector Troy was on time, professional, and very thorough. On the inspection for the first house, Troy went above and beyond to go through some crawlspaces and saw some crumbling foundation. We ended up not getting that house. Because we appreciated his work so much, we requested Troy as our inspection for the second house. He answered all our questions, explained everything thoroughly, and left everything clean. I would definitely recommend Troy & Pillar to Post

Inspector was on time, kind and courteous. Walked me through the inspection process and allowed for my questions. Told me what needed fixed now and what could wait. Finally, provided a detailed inspection binder with color photographs of any discrepancies he found.

We are considering buying the house we're now renting, but we wanted to see what the issues were. The house was built in 1953. The inspector arrived about 30 minutes early and while he waited for us to get there, he did the exterior inspection. He was very thorough. He invited me to accompany him through the house, and he pointed out problems, explained what they meant, and suggested ways to correct them. He was very thorough and very personable. It's the best home inspection I've ever received, and my wife and I have bought and sold a half dozen or so properties. I would very definitely recommend this company, based on this inspector's performance.

Unimpressive.  The inspector was not easy to work with, spent about 2 hours at the property and did a passable job that seemed to favor the seller.

We were buying a foreclosure as-is, so a thorough inspection was necessary so we understood what we were getting into with this house. We NEEDED an inspector we could trust, because if we moved into a "money pit", we'd be in trouble!
Rachon was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of our questions...and we asked a lot of them! He never once hurried us or seemed put out by how long the inspection was taking. His level of professionalism and customer service was outstanding!
He even came back to the house at 7:30 in the morning on his day off to complete the inspection because the bank we were purchasing the house from hadn't turned the water or gas on for the original inspection date! He spent his lunch that day (on his day off) writing up the final report because that was the last day we were allowed to review the home for inspections!
I don't mean to use so many exclamation points, but dang, he really impressed me.

They are great.  They are very professional.  They did a very thorough home inspection.  They came on time.  They were easy to deal with.  They are good people.  We had called a few different people for price comparison and their price was very comparable with everyone else.  It wasn’t low or high.  I would absolutely use them in the future.

They turned out to be really bad.  They were recommended to us by a realtor. There was so much wrong with our house that he had not found that it took us about $20000 to fix it.  I was amazed when I went with my electrician to upgrade it.  He told me that the wires for the air conditioner and furnace were run to put other things on it.  There were a lot of things that were illegal.  In the basement there were about two truck loads of wood pieces that were left over from what he was making some furniture stuck on the support pillars.  It took two truck loads to get that stuff out of here.  He told us the sprinkler system would work but it didn't. He told us that septic system was cleaned but it hadn't we had to have cleaned and it was really bad.  I should have noticed earlier.  He charged me a standard service charge.  I wouldn't recommend him to anybody.

He missed that there were brown spots on the ceiling of my sons room; he said it was a minor "old" leak that he apololigized for missing & returned to caulk, but he has not given us the updated report as promised and did not even offer to fix/paint the ceiling where damaged. He did not report the poor water pressure problem in the kitchen and master bathroom. He did not check or notice the hot water temperature that nearly scalded me (we have two small children). My initial impression: professional, on-time, & courteous. We moved in on Thursday and by the weekend we had the dishwasher break down, the washing machine backed up all over the floor, found the spots on my sons ceiling from an "old"(per his next inspection)leak, I was nearly scalded by hot water, found with my first shower that we had extremely poor water pressure in the master bathroom, found the furnace filter was so dirty you couldn't see through it (so it had to be replaced immediately), and the dryer vent which exits on our deck was so in need of cleaning our guests pointed it out (fire hazard!). I don't want to know what else he missed! The dishwasher is still an ongoing problem that we have had a tech say is caused by our poor water pressure problem. Financial loss: we have had to pay two $60 deductibles for the dishwasher & the washing machine back-up, we had to replace the furnace filter (which would have been done eventually, but if it had been checked on inspection we would have requested it to be replaced ASAP--and may have requested a furnace tune-up if we would have known it was so neglected), we are expecting a plumber to assess our other problem tomorrow (9/3) & a tech to return again to try to solve our dishwasher problem, and we apparently have to buy paint and fix my sons ceiling and hope he was telling the truth about the leak being fixed! We have tried to contact him since his one return and promise of an updated report, but he just continues to ignore us. Even our real estate agent has not received a response with his attempt via email. ****** UPDATE: Response to the provider response 1) he states that my mention of attempting to contact him several times was FALSE---now he is flat out lying and I have the emails to prove it!! August 5th at 5:56pm after not receiving his updated report or a return phone call, I emailed the company requesting it & again was ignored. August 20th I received an email from my agent and I copied this directly from it: "I did get a call back from Tom on Wednesday, and he said that he had forwarded the addendum to the Inspection report on the other items. I mentioned that we have not received it and he said that he would send it back out. I have not seen it and was wondering if you have received it? I would like you to email me the information on what happened after you moved in, finding the painted stain and the clogged washer drain." Neither of us ever received that addendum. 2) Ask yourselves why if the inspector missed this on his inspection should I be expected to pay for it's repair/repainting. He left my clothes & floor in my closet filthy with debris from the attic, he did not give us the addendum as he stated he would, and he expected us to repaint the ceiling as he recommended---does this seem fair/professional! 3) The other things I mentioned in my complaint he excuses as not part of a normal inspection. I have purchased & had two homes inpected prior to this one and BOTH of those inpectors discussed water temperature specifically for SAFETY. The water pressure was so bad in our kitchen due to a clogged faucet we had to have it replaced and our master bathroom shower was so poor instead of coming out perpendicular to the shower head it was about 45degrees drooping out---if these are not "deficient" I'm not sure what is---a professional plumber had to fix both. The dryer vent: a few days after moving in our neighbor was over & noticed that it was so dirty it was spitting out lint---this is again a SAFETY issue. He did not have to operate the dryer to look in the vent to check for something that is a serious fire hazard!! We are now seeking legal advice.
Response from Pillar To Post Home Inspectors
"I performed the home inspection on June 29, 2010 at 3:30 PM. The members were in attendance for the inspection and received a detailed written inspection report, a copy of the NAHI Standards of Practice and a Visual Inspection Agreement. All these documents clearly define the scope of the inspection that was performed that day. The home is approximately 6 years old located in a residential subdivision. For review, a home inspection is designed to better the buyer's odds. It is not designed to eliminate all risk of purchase for the buyer. For that reason, a home inspection should not be considered an insurance policy. The premium that an insurance company would have to charge for a policy with no deductible, no limit and an indefinite policy period would be considerably more than the fee we charge. 1) Brown spots an ceiling in front bedroom were present at the date of my re inspection. There was no moisture or ceiling damage present, but it appeared that water had caused the stain. I re inspected the roof and attic space and found an area of flashing that was deficient an the front wall and roof inspection. I sealed the area with clear silicone caulking. I advised the client to repaint the ceiling to improve appearance. 2) Testing for actual water pressure is beyond the scope of a home inspection. I checked each plumbing fixture for functional flow and drainage and found no deficiencies at the time of the inspection. 3) Hot water heater temperature setting was not changed during the inspection. It is the owner's responsibility to set the temperature that is appropriate for their lifestyle. 4) The dishwasher was operated through a complete wash and rinse cycle during the inspection. No deficiencies were observed. During my re inspection he stated that they had run the dishwasher a couple of times before it broke down. A dishwasher is a mechanical appliance and can fail without warning, S) The clothes washer was not operated at the time of inspection. This was noted in the report. 6) The clothes dryer was not operated at the time of the inspection. This was noted in the inspection report. Also noted in the report is a suggestion to the buyer to have the vent pipe cleaned prior to use. 7) Changing furnace filters is a homeowner maintenance item and should be checked and changed as needed on a regular basis. The condition of the filter was acceptable at the time of the inspection. 8) Her statement that she has tried to contact me several times and I have failed to respond is FALSE. I have received no communication from her since her initial call, Which I responded to the same day and re inspected the house within two days! 9) I have not received any email communication from her real estate agent. Every home buyer must expect some initial outlays to bring the home up to their level of satisfaction and comfort. Home-ownership, maintenance and repair costs are ongoing, It is unfortunate that you are faced with some unexpected repairs costs, but we are not liable for them. A very thorough inspection of the property following industry standards of practice was completed."

COST INCLUDED TERMITE INSPECTION. THEY MISSED SEVERAL THINGS WITH THE HOME STRUCTURE AND THINGS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED. I WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT THE HOME IF THE INSPECTION HAD BEEN DONE CORRECTLY. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND OR USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. HE DID SAY HE WOULD REFUND MY MONEY ON THE INSPECTION, BUT I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED THE MONEY.

THE EXPERIENCE WAS OUTSTANDING. TOM AND HIS ASSISTANT WERE THOROUGH, EFFICIENT, FRIENDLY, COURTEOUS, AND UNHURRIED. TOM TOOK US "NOVICE" HOUSE PURCHASERS STEP BY STEP THROUGH THE INSPECTION, EXPLAINING EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING AND WHY AS WELL AS SHOWING US WHAT WE NEEDED TO FOLLOW UP ON AND POSSIBLY BE CONCERNED ABOUT. TOM WAS ALSO TRAINING HIS ASSISTANT AND DEMONSTRATED A WONDERFUL "MENTOR" ATTITUDE. THE INSPECTION ITSELF AND THE BINDER OF INFORMATION PRESENTED TO US WERE/ARE INVALUABLE. OUR REALTOR HAD SAID THAT TOM WAS EXTRAORDINARILY METICULOUS, AND WE COMPLETELY AGREE. CANNOT RECOMMEND HIM HIGHLY ENOUGH!

THE INSPECTION OF OUR HOME LEFT MUCH TO BE DESIRED. THEIR INSPECTOR MISSED CRITICAL ITEMS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN APPARENT TO A PROFESSIONAL. FOR EXAMPLE, THE SHOWER WALL IN THE MASTER BEDROOM WAS COLLAPSING (AND DID AFTER WE MOVED IN) BUT THEY DID NOT COMMENT. THERE IS APPARENT WATER DAMAGE IN SEVERAL PLACES UNDER CABINETS, NO COMMENTS. SINCE MOVING IN, WE HAVE SPENT NEARLY $15,000 IN REPAIRS, MUCH OF WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED BEFORE THE PURCHASE IF THE INSPECTORS HAD DONE THEIR JOB. I ASKED THEM FOR A PARTIAL REFUND, AND WHILE THEY RESPONDED PROMPTLY, THEY REFUSED. I USED THIS COMPANY PREVIOUSLY WITH GOOD RESULTS, BUT THEIR PERFORMANCE HAS DETERIORATED.

THIS IS THE 6TH TIME WE'VE USED HOME INSPECTORS WHEN PREPARING TO PURCHASE A HOUSE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE HAD CAUSE TO COMPLAIN. THEY MISSED A RUBBER ROOF WITH 7-11 HOLES IN IT, CONSEQUENTLY CAUSING WATER DAMAGE IN THE HOUSE. WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WE HAD A RUBBER ROOF. ALSO, ALL THE RETURN DUCTS IN THE BASEMENT WERE COVERED IN ASBESTOS, OF WHICH, THEY TOOK NO NOTICE. THE FACT THAT THEY MISSED TWO HIGHLY VISIBLE PROBLEMS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO US. THEIR RESPONSE HAS BEEN FLIMSY EXCUSES AND ATTEMPTS TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE WE'RE WRONG TO BE UPSET.
