MEIJER INC

Meijer's is a discount store, and they don't care anything about their customers. I shopped there recently and had an accident in their driveway, as they put a portable stop sign in the middle of the driveway that didn't allow cars to get by on either side when coming head on to it. The problem was that I was in the driveway right before the sign, so I turned into it, as I couldn't see it from the driveway I was in. The store took a report, and I got a letter from their Corporate office stating that they wouldn't take responsibility for causing the accident, and they haven't moved the signs after 10 days worth of accidents one after another. Even the managers when they did the report said they had to follow corporate policy, no matter how many accidents occur. Most of the accidents, they say were caused by too high a rate of speed in driveway, but I pulled out from a dead stop, and only went about a half car length before hitting the sign. Pulling out to the left doesn't give enough time before that portable sign to see it's there and go on one side of it or the other. I suggested moving the sign to the walkway to the right, which is where people look for a stop sign anyway, but they say they can't they have to follow corporate policy. There have been numerous accidents since mine, as I was by there and saw that the sign had been knocked so far to the right that there was only one lane to pass by, but yet it wasn't out of the roadway. I have a brand new Honda and now it's damaged (repairs cost $$500.00) and they will assume no responsibility for the repairs. It's my opinion that I will never shop there again, as there could be other traps to cause a loss of money, as the company doesn't care for their customers. I tried to call the manager to get her email address, and merely requesting to speak to her, I was put on hold for 20 minutes with no one checking back. I believe other customers need to be aware of the sign issue, but I also believe there are other stores that care enough not to entrap their customers into costly expenses. Why shop a discount store if it's going to cost a few hundred dollars to get your car repaired. This lack of concern for customers is a corporate wide problem with this company. Angie's List members should be made aware of the problem with the portable signs at Meijer's, and also watch out for them in other places (stores, fairgrounds, parking lots of expo centers or any big event parking). These portable signs are a menace. You never know where they will show up and the people placing them, take no care, as far as them being seen. All they care about is having them there to place fault if someone hits them, or doesn't heed them and has an accident.

THE WORK PERFORMED WAS DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. THE SERVICE WAS GOOD AS WELL. THE TECH PERSON KNEW HIS JOB, SINCE HE GAVE SUGGESTIONS FOR OTHER OPTIONS.
