Hatfield Construction

I hired Gordon Hatfield of Hatfield Construction, to put a fence on six acres of my property. He arrived late, brought his small children, brought different people every day, and after a week, I complained to him about the quality of his work. He needed money in advance to buy materials. I wrote him a check for $14218.00. He cashed the check and I asked for the receipts. He gave me the receipts, but on the day I let him go because he was doing a terrible job, bringing his children, showing up late, working only a few hours each day -- I went over the receipts in detail. I found that he duplicated two of them, totaling more than $4,000. I confronted him and he said that he double paid. I went to Tractor Supply to ask them about this and they only received one payment from him. He also removed lumber and supplies from my front lawn and returned them to the lumber yard where he bought them with my money. He pocketed over $560. I asked him to give me this money and he said that he never got any cash -- only a credit. I called the lumber company and they said they gave him cash. He does not answer my phone calls or emails. He has taken off with the money. He has lied to me on several occasions, including that he was insured. I called his insurance company and they told me that his policy expired in April on 2011. O NOT give him any business. He is a thief, a liar, and a coward.
