They were so kind and understanding. The handled our furry baby with gentle respect. While I was crying my eyes out they came from behind the counter comforting me. They even agreed to our special requests of having some of her special things cremated with her. I wouldn't hesitate to go to them again but hopefully for their other services.

I was happy with the care he got. They noticed he is shy and covered part of the kennel so he could and quot;hideand quot; from view if he wished.

The staff "ran out" after two days and the remaining meds were found in the box we left with our food that our dogs required and was not used. One dog was permanently paralyzed on the hind quarter when we picked him up and had to be euthanized. The kennel owner from Ohio sat with me at the Ann Arbor office and flamed me for allowing medically compromised animals to even stay with them. Well, if you could not handle it, why didn't you call our vet right down the street. I would never trust this facility with a four-legged member of my family again.
Response from Karnik Pet Lodge at Fallen Timbers
"It is truly a difficult and emotional time when a pet owner has to say that final goodbye to their loved one; however Karnik understands this heartache and often, as a family, we grieve the loss alongside the owner.  While we came to love both **** and ***** in their short 9 day stay with us, our hearts broke for **** in his difficult and "special needs" condition.  We truly empathize with the family having to make that ultimate final decision that no pet owner ever wants to face.  It is with utmost selflessness that we, as loving pet owners, invariably face this dilemma; one last chance to give to the one that has given so much for us. We also understand that during such difficult and emotional times, while trying to grieve this loss, we seek out answers, or sometimes even seek to blame someone or something else for somehow causing our loss.  While losing **** has been a very difficult situation for all of us affected by his passing, it is important to note that everyone involved in his care did everything humanly possible to provide him with the best, most professional, loving care possible considering his condition; from his parents, to Karnik's professional pet care team, down to the veterinary care specialists who provided his medical care. As there were certainly very specific details surrounding ****'s "special needs" care, a public forum is certainly the last place to relive, recount, or replay ****'s final days with us.  Karnik has reached out to the family on various occasions and in a variety of ways; including face-to-face.  As a family-owned business, we have even consulted directly with the family's veterinarian for clarity of ****'s overall health and medical conditions.  While it is very sad to learn of his passing, through our investigation into this matter, we have found that his euthanasia was not in any way due to a lack of love, care, or attentiveness Karnik Pet Lodges offered him while he was in our care.  **** left both our care and our pet lodging facility in the same manner, fashion, and health status as he did upon arriving to our facility 9 days prior. For transparency sake, Karnik has an exceptional 40 year reputation throughout our communities and are privileged to receive the referrals of so many within the pet care community.   With three locations proudly offering the best in professional pet care services, the Karnik family is certainly not ashamed of our policies and procedures that we employ in making sure every pet entrusted to our care is treated as if they were one of the family.  Anyone is welcome at any time to stop by one of our facilities to see first-hand just how detailed and professionally we monitor our guests; and we do this because our family genuinely cares about your family."

I have used Karnik on Black Road for 7 years except for a few times recently when I used a family run kennel near Bowling Green. I decided to come back to Karnik because I liked that they had indoor/outdoor runs. Over the years I have asked several times what type of alarm system they have. I was always told that they have door alarms. Today, after calling to find out why I had a charge of $5.00 on my bill, I was told that they have no alarm system what so ever. So for the 12 to 12 1/2 hours that the dogs and cats are left alone they are in no way protected from fire, theft or any wacko that feels the need to break in. As for the $5.00 charge I was told that is an insurance policy that protects my dog in case of illness of injury while in their care. I think that it is really an insurance policy to protect them and we are paying for it. I do not like hidden charges and I do not like that there is no alarm system.

They love our dog and he loves to go there. We have a Chihuahua so he is easy to pick up. I don't know if the price is reasonable as I've never taken my dog anywhere else. I think regularly they charge $21 a day but over a holidays like we boarded him during Easter they take $2 more a day.

To their credit, Karnik was pretty up front about grooming not really being their thing. They said they didn't do nails. They didn't brush teeth. They would just bathe the dogs. Well, our smaller dog (a 40 lb. border collie mix) is pretty nervous around strangers and can be a challenge to deal with. After I had dropped him off, I wasn't even home yet and they had called to tell us they weren't going to be able to do the border collie because he wasn't letting them.

Like I said, I understand he was challenging but we've now had him groomed at four different places and every other place we've taken him has figured out a way to get him groomed. So, if we just had our bigger dog, a 90 lb lab/golden mix, they would be fine. But if you have a friendly dog who loves everybody and all you're going to do is give him a bath, you can pretty much take him anywhere without worrying too much, right?

I checked out three locations that boarded cats. Karnik's price was in the middle of the three locations. Their staff was friendly and responsive. They provided a clean and accessible boarding location. They had a variety of services available for the cat (brushing, playing, etc) and were very accommodating to special requests. The staff was very friendly and listened very well to our requests. The stay went fine. The cat was happy and so were we.

Karnik in Waterville has a clean, tidy facility. I dropped by unannounced to check on my pup and they were gracious and eager to show me around. Resting kennels are very clean and have exterior access. Play area has lots of water (in kiddie pools and buckets) and climbing toys. I watched our puppy follow around one of the workers as he brought other dogs into the play area. Our dog seemed to think it was his job to help escort the other dogs to playtime! Our puppy clearly loves it there, he gets very exctied when we pull into the driveway. He's always exhausted when we pick him up after a full day of play. Overall, we're very pleased with the facility and the staff. They even accomodated a special request for a bath after playtime (bathing is usually a morning activity) so I could present him at his cleanest on a special trip to my parents house. I could wish the cost were a bit less but I believe that Karnik is in line with other facilities of the same type so really, no complaints at all.

The very first time, our dogs were terrified, but each time afterward they can't wait to get out of the car and go in. We don't even use their leases now because they run right up to the door and wait on us to open it. The staff knows their names and our dogs seem to love them. One of our dogs makes friends very easily, but the other one is scared of everything, but even he has gotten used to the big dogs barking and it doesn't seen to bother him. We can call as many times as we want to check up on them, which is nice. We've never had any problems and are very pleased with the whole experience.

I have not had any bad or negative experiences with this kennel in over 25 years. My dogs get very excited when they arrive there and are greeted by friendly staff members. If I have any questions, they have answered my questions. They know all the pets by personality and when I call for a reservation, they acknowledge them by name.
