I contacted Angi's at the end of July or beginning of August for a referral for a contractor who could repair the cracks in our driveway. We received 2 calls, 1 from Hastings and Sons and 1 from another contractor. Jason Hastings came to do an estimate on 08/05/2025. He was an hour early with no call. He was very nice and personable. We discussed fixing the cracks, but then he told me we really needed a new driveway and that our porch (it's not really a porch as there is no overhang) needed replacing as well. I told him we tried to do that a few years before, but the deal fell through. We discussed what I wanted to do, which was to change the porch, walkway, and flower bed into one patio with a step up from the driveway and no step into the house. He agreed with that idea and said he would price the driveway by itself as well as the driveway and patio together. We discussed the need for permits, 1 for the bottom of the driveway and 1 for the patio. We also discussed if they would be able to level the driveway better than it was due to the fact that cars that sit low got scraped when the came up the driveway. He said they couldn't promise to fix that issue, but they would do everything they could to fix that. He gave me an estimate of $9970. I told him I would speak to my husband and let him know. He wanted an answer immediately. I told him I had another estimate scheduled for that day and would need to speak with my husband. He told me the price was only good until the end of the day. The 2nd estimate came in at $14,000.00 for both the patio and the driveway. My husband and I talked about both estimates and decided to go with Hastings and Sons. I called Jason and told him our decision. He sent over the contract via email and I signed it. He said they could probably start that week. I told him we needed to get the money together, so needed to wait a week to start. He agreed. The next week he called on Tuesday and said some workers would be there that evening to tear out the driveway. He said they would tear out the whole driveway that evening and due the concrete work on Wednesday. I told him we only had half the money as we were waiting on the check from selling some stocks for the 2nd half. He said that wasn't a problem. He trusted me to pay when we had the money. The workers showed up that evening as Jason said they would. My husband happened to be outside when they came. One of the men spoke to my husband briefly without introducing himself or saying he was the owner. He asked my husband what we were doing with the driveway. My husband told him what we wanted with the driveway. Shawn Hastings did not ask my husband about the patio and my husband did not say anything to him about the patio. After about 10 minutes of using equipment to break up the driveway, they left without telling us they were leaving and did not come back. They returned the next morning. Shawn was driving the machine used to break up the driveway, although at that time neither I nor my husband knew who he was. I left for work, as I had told Jason I would be doing, and waved at the workers as I left. No one asked to speak to me. When I got home, shortly after 4:00 p.m., I noted the driveway was almost finished, but they had redone the porch and walkway exactly as it had been before, not what Jason and I had discussed. I spoke to the workers who were working on the porch, and they said "talk to the boss." I asked who the boss was and they pointed to a man sitting in a truck. They called him to come up and I walked toward him to tell him the problem. At that time, I still did not know who he was. I explained the problem, and he immediately blamed me and my husband. I told him that Jason and I had discussed what we were doing with the patio and Jason knew exactly what we wanted. He continued to blame us. He then said that I hafmd just left that morning without speaking to him, again, I had no idea who he was, and that we hadn't even paid him. He then said they would make it right and that we all shared the blame. I denied again that we shared any of the blame. I went into the house and got the check. I then walked down to his truck to give him the check for $5000.00. He said that I didn't need to pay right then. I said I wanted him to take the check. He took the check and then repeated several times "We're all right." I was concerned he was having a heat stroke or something because his behavior and demeanor were off. I went back in the house and called Jason. Jason said he would call Shawn and talk to him. Jason agreed that the patio was supposed to replace the porch, walkway, and flowered and didn't know why they had done it incorrectly. A short time later, Shawn came up to the door and said they would fix the problem. He again blamed my husband and myself. At this point, I had had enough and said, "f*ck off, dude." He became incensed and tok a step towards me. One of his workers grabbed him and said, "no, boss, no." I shut the door. A little bit later, he came back up to the door with the check I had given him. He,said he wasn't going to accept the check because I had cursed t him. He said he would only take cash. I apologized for cursing at him and told him there was nothing wrong with the check and I was not going to go to the bank to get cash. He then said he would uncharted me for the concrete needed for re-doing the patio. I said that wasn't in the contract and I was going to call his brother. He said, "go ahead. I'm the owner, not Jason." I called Jason again. He seemed upset by what Shawn was doing and saying. He said he would call Shawn and call me back. He called me back and said, Shawn was going to go "cool off and get a drink" and he would be back. He said they would take our check and there would be no upcharge. A few hours later, Shawn showed up, somewhat contrite, and spoke to both Joe and I. I explained what we wanted to do with the patio. He said he couldn't do it all the way to the door, that there would have to be a step into the house. Although that's not what we wanted, we agreed. He made a joke about women named Jennifer, as that's my name and his ex-wife's name. He tried to hug me. He and I both apologized. He left saying everything, the rest of the driveway as well as the patio would be finished the next day. The next day, the workers showed up and began work. I don't know if Shawn was there that day or not. My husband was off work that day while I was at work. When I got home, they were finishing up. Everything looked okay to me other than the patio seemed a bit uneven. Shawn stopped by that evening and asked what we thought. I said it looked fine to my untrained eye other than the patio looked uneven. He said it looked fine to him. I said "okay." He then said they workers would be back that evening to clean up and they would get "every rock and piece of trash out of our yard." I asked if they could get rid of the iron railing that had been around our porch as Joe and I had no way to dispose of it. He said they would. I gave him the 2nd check for the remainder of the cost, $4970. The workers did not come back that night. They came back early the next morning while I was getting ready for work. They only took a trash bag that they had left behind the night before. They did not clean up the yard or take the railing. I texted Jason and he sad he didn't think they'd be able to do anything because they were all in Cincinnati. Two of the workers did show up that evening and took the railing. The next day, Friday, I came home to find a notice fom the City of Kettering that I needed to call Chad ASAP about ur recent "concrete work." I called immediately but he wasn't in the office. I called again first thing on Monday and U was told by Chad that Hastings and Sons did not get the needed permit for the driveway permit, and that they had done the apron incorrectly. Chad then told me that all they had to fo was pay $22.00 fir a permit, and Chad would have come to the house and explained how the apron should be done, and then would come out when finished, inspect it, and then sign off. That's all Hastings and Sons were supposed to do. He then told me if Ha

Overall, I am not satisfied with Hastings and Sons Concrete and recommend using caution before signing any contract with this company. They agreed to perform the job as I requested, however throughout the process they changed how they performed the job. Examples: They still have not provide the diagram with measurement (depth, width, length, and location) for the four pillars they installed after several requests. Without this diagram, I do not know if the pillars are to code. They said they would use expansion joints and used none. Said they would use saw cuts and changed to control joints. Said the patio would be even with door ways, but during installation they said based on code they could not do what the sales rep agreed to. I had to identify that they did not use rebar in one section of the patio, then they added rebar after it was brought to their attention. I also identified that the gravel base was not hard compacted as the mobile dump machine was sinking into the gravel and got suck several times, however Mr. Hastings continued pouring the concrete anyway. I do not believe I saw the whole contract on the computer tablet; after signing, they printed me a copy so I could read the whole contract and I would not have sign or used this contractor if I had been able to read all the terms and conditions beforehand. Their brochure states a 99.9% customer satisfaction rate, after researching this company this does not appear true. The only positive thing is that they were quick to complete the job the next day, minus providing the agreed upon diagrams.

The patio looked good when they finished but upon further inspection, the grooves are holding water which will break down the concrete eventually. The guy who gave us the quote said that the deck debris from the rotted deck, that we were in the middle of deconstructing, would be removed and they would give us a step up into the house from the patio. The guy that showed up the morning they started wanted to charge us $1000 more to get the debris removed and did not give us a step. We had to opt not to pay the extra for the dumpster because could get one cheaper. They guy claimed there was only 3” from the patio to the doorway except upon measuring, it is actually a 6” step down from the doorway to the patio now. On top of that the guy brought an all Spanish speaking crew and left them all day without supervision. We could not communicate with them and they brought alcohol and were drinking on the job.

Hastings and son was quick, courteous, on time and did great work. The price was very reasonable, they got here, went right to work and worked straight through without stopping. I would highly recommend them for any of the services they provide. They even came back and put my patio furniture back where it belonged. That was a really big help to me.

Did a decent job of installing a drainpipe and gravel to stop the erosion of my driveway. Lots of very loose gravel which causes some issues with driving up it. A small part of the driveway washed into the yard after a heavy rain. Called company and a man took the information. He came out when I wasn't home and sent email that he didn't see any issues even though there is gravel going 20 feet in yard. Asked if they did the driveway and I again sent him the invoice. Called and talked to him and he said he has another call and would call me back which he didn't do. I called and sent emails with no response. Guess they aren't interested in fixing it

Absolutely outstanding job! Experienced pro did the work. A small sidewalk job that was done perfectly at a very competitive price. Would hire Hastings again for any concrete work. They delivered on exactly what they promised to do. Doesn't get any better than that!

We hired Hastings and Sons last fall due to their quote and Adam seemed professional at the time. We had concrete poured around our pool this Spring and had it stamped and colored. Unfortunately , I had to referee between Adam and our pool company twice and my husband once. Adam was very rude to them and then I got the same attitude when Adam told me that our pool company could not come out the day they poured. I advised Adam that it was my property and they could be there to be sure everyone was on the same page. The day final payment was due, Adam was at our house before 8 am. I explained to him that the concrete work was not up to par because of the skimmer heights, which is a trip hazard and not flush with the rest of the concrete. He blamed our pool company, which in fact had lowered the skimmer's height after their crew mentioned it to my husband. When I asked for it to be repaired I was told I had to pay in full. I called my husband and he assured us both, including adding it to the contract, so I paid him, reluctantly. I then texted asking for a timeline and received 2-3 long texts about why I shouldn't have it repaired. We said we wanted it repaired along with MANY CHIPS in the CONCRETE!! It looks absolutely terrible and I have been told for weeks now that they are going to get a game plan together. All they have to do is chip around the skimmers so the pool company can lower them. But they don't care, they have their money. Now our pool company is trying to coordinate so they can do their part and finish our project, with no response either. Now that I see some of the responses to other customers from Hastings, it's truly unprofessional and I regret using them.

They didn't clean up at all. They left debris and stuff all over. For the landscaping, they didn't backfill the holes with dirt; they left gaping holes. I had to call them back three times for them to clean up and backfill the concrete. On top of that, they got new concrete on my existing concrete, leaving spots all over it. To make matters worse, the new concrete started cracking just three weeks after they poured it. This likely happened because it began raining on the concrete only two hours after they put it in, allowing significant moisture to get into the mix. When they saw-cut the concrete, they waited a week to do it. The powder from the concrete settled in the joints. I try I contacted them they said they were going to fix it and then I was never able to contact them again they didn't answer the phone.

I’m only giving a one star review because they were able to get us on the schedule quickly. Everett seemed very friendly and honest when he came out to give us a quote to widen our driveway and extend our extension patio so we decided to hire Hastings and Sons. Now with HUGE regret. This is a slimy business. Partial payment was due at the beginning of the job and the remaining was due at the completion of the job. We went ahead and paid the remaining payment without the job being FULLY completed (ignorant on my part) the only thing left to do was saw cut and clean up, we were told someone would back the following morning, here we are 4 days later and no one has showed up to complete the job. Everette and someone named Tim who wasn’t even on the job and told me two jobs were mixed up told me it would be taken care of (yesterday). If concrete is left too long without the control joints being cut it will crack, we are past 96 hours with no saw cuts! Not to mention I told the project manager I wanted our patio to be rounded and it was not, he did a walk through the morning of pouring and talked about the square footage but nothing was staked out so I didn’t even think to bring it up again since I already told him and showed him a picture of what I wanted, he said I should have mentioned that during the walk through. This part I was okay with getting over until it turned into a bigger problem. They left my front yard a mess, there is concrete smeared on our existing patio, concrete on the siding of our house, basement windows, the quality of their work is bad. Sloppy, the extension of the driveway isn’t even. If I could do it all over again I would have hire the contractor who’s price was significantly higher. I would not recommend Hastings and Sons to anyone and will never use them again for future projects. Do yourself a favor and don’t go for the cheapest quote, I know better and still did it. I should have been more thorough when researching the company, their reviews are loads of complaints and they are not on the BBB that’s usually a red flag. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for! Good thing is I was able to stop payment on the second check. They’ll get paid when they actually FINISH the job.

I had a fairly small job that developed into a slightly larger job of replacing a concrete walkway that had been previously repaired incorrectly by a plumber resulting in water pooling against my 100 year old house. They did a great job, I can tell the pitch is now correct and with all the rain we've had - no more pooling. Looks great too. I'd highly recommend them!

Adam, was spot on when he took our money, everything would be done just how we wanted it... my husband is a veteran couldn't say enough about his service ..or flag waving, boy did we fall for that one, hook line and sinker.. scheduled on one of the hottest days of the year, 3 guys came out Gavin "the foreman , and 2 others .. the one guy laid over in the grass at our neighbors in the shade , did very little.. left it up to the other 2.. the concrete was drying or setting up and with just the 2 they couldn't keep up. now our sidewalk is starting to crumble {this happened June 24 2022]the steps are so many different colors and they are crooked, bowed, uneven.. people in the neighborhood want to know what happened to our steps, and we have had people say how ugly they are.... not only that "Gavin the foreman" broke a finial off the wrought iron railings that were suppose to be installed but not until after 90 days .. why ? because we were told the concrete has to cure.....not only that I asked if they sprayed a sealant on the concrete Gavin said no because its in the concrete...well, here it is September 13 2022, and haven't heard a thing , oh no I'm sorry someone [maybe Adam ] was going to check it out but, not when we were going to home , I tried to make an appt. but that wouldn't be necessary now I know why..he's probably embarrassed of the work I know I would be ... what's going to happen now remains to be seen but I'll tell anyone please don't use this company and trust me the people who have stopped I have said do not use Hastings and sons concrete

We had a 20 X 20 patio installed with stamped stairs and raised landing at the back door. We worked with Adam and had our estimate completed and in the beginning We found Adam to be responsive and he explained things very well when discussing the project. He ensured us that before any concrete was to be poured they’d make sure everything was how we wanted it and that it was correct. Demo day came and they started installing the forms and due to weather they had to stop. Adam advised they would be back out to complete the forms and walk us through everything. Several days came and went and nobody showed up. Adam kept telling us we’re on schedule to have the pour and everything would be fine. Finally after a week the truck showed up at the same time the crew showed up to complete the forms. It was a cluster of a mess. Gavin was the crew leader and he was incredibly rude, even to the point of telling us to go back inside when we were pointing out things that were not correct and not how it was supposed to be. The crew was rushing, constantly missing things, and never at any time checked with us to see if this was how we wanted it and poured the patio anyway. Adam came back and looked at the project and I told him how Gavin treated us. They were kind enough to give us $200 off the cost of the project. Adam explained they would be back to do the stain/release and seal the patio. When they did come back Gavin was very sloppy, got stain on the patio in places it shouldn’t have been, missed spots on the stairs, and the overall quality was poor, and they kept telling us it’s supposed to look that way. Adam explained he’d be back in 30 days to check on the progress and he never came back. The stains never went away, chips and cracks started showing up on the patio. We sent Adam pictures and never heard back. After several weeks we reached out again and he said they had a crew out and would be out on 6/25/22 and they would fix the issues. We waited all day and nobody showed up. We texted Adam several times and never heard back. We’ve never been so disappointed in the quality of work, lack of professionalism and total disregard for somebody promising to fix something and never did. Bottom line once this company gets your money don’t count on them to fix anything in accordance with the contract/warranty, or call you back!! They make empty statements and promises and don’t stand behind their work period!!! This is a classic example of they don’t mean what they say! Good luck if you choose this company!!

I have been reaching out since December 9th about issues with the concrete you installed in July 2021. Since then I've been told someone would be out to assess and fix the problem. Although you tell me you're coming over on a certain date, you have never shown. You've put me in a bad position because the work you did is not satisfactory and needs to be redone asap. Two of my new slabs have cracks down the middle and need to be replaced. The areas on my old concrete that were nicked In July that your guys patched have crumbled so patching my new concrete is not an option as it has proven not to withhold for even a year. Lastly, the low spot under my steps is a major hazard as I've already tripped and fell because of it in October and it becomes a real issue when it's icy out. If you are unable to make me a priority after I paid $6452 in full and brought you business next door, as well, i need to be reimbursed for the 3 faulty slabs and i will hire another company to make the correct repairs. I have literally reached out 26 times and you still have not been out to visit and most of those times I don't get a response that you arent able to make it -you just didn't show up. So unprofessional. I will also be in contact with Angi regarding my dissatisfaction with their recommendation of your company. Jessica B. Loveland, OH

The work was not completed timely. They started the project and I had to repeatedly call for them to finish. After the concrete dried the sealant was sprayed and it dried in splotches. Now I have a speckled patio that looks several years old. After numerous calls and emails they said they would come back and correct the sealant issue, but that has not occurred.
