Hair Salons/Barbers
$30
Let's start with the waxer. I had been trying to grow out a bad wax job and I hadn't waxed my brows in at least 2 months, so there was plenty to work with. Over the phone when I was scheduling the session, I asked her if she would take her time and not wax the eyebrows but pluck instead to avoid removing too much since I've had bad experiences in which they waxed off my brow. Over the phone she was very reassuring, but I felt she changed once I arrived. When I showed Amanda a picture of me when I had my brows styled the way that I wanted them, she asked me in a very demeaining way what I liked about them, and proceeded to tell me that my natural brow shape was different than that of the picture. She made me feel like a schoolkid who didn't do their homework because I dind't understand her terminology. I assumed briging in a picture would help show her what I wanted.  I tried to explain that another lady had waxed off my eybrows to my horror and changed my brow shape in the process, and that was the point. I was trying to get them back to the shape in the picture. She was like I can do whatever you want, with a condescending attitude. Then I told her that the picture is of my left eyebrow. She asked if that picture was of me. Finally she got it! That is what I had been telling her.  She finally agreed that the previous lady did do a bad job and messed up my shape. But Amanda also trimmed my brows badly and used brow powder to hide how bad they looked. This seems to be the brow waxer's version of using a flat iron to hide mistakes.  At the time I thought she did a good job and I tipped her $10. It wasn't until I got home and washed off the powder that  I realized how bad her styling was. And my upper lip was left with lots of hair at the outer ends. Hair gone where I wanted to keep it, but not where I wanted it removed. And the wax she used made me break out. for 3 days.

Marty and I did not finish the haircut. She has only been cutting hair for 4 years, and it showed. I informed her early on that I was not happy with how it was going because she insisted on texturizing my hair and I wanted long smooth layers that beveled under, without having to use a flat iron. She then told me 1.) that I should not be upset so early in the haircut (  I have made the mistake of not speaking up early before) , 2.) that there was no way to bevel the layers- that texturizing is the only method to achieve layers ( which is a sign of her inexperience), and 3.) if I thought someone else could do that, then I should go to them (Bad customer service), 4.) she wanted to flat iron my hair before I left (which is code for hide the mistakes). Before we had agreed on the next move, she just grabbed her broom and started sweeping up. She dismissed me just like that. I left her a $3 tip just because I didn't want to cheat her, she didn't want me to leave her anything.-but I did. I will not be back and I don't rececommend her since she has very little training in multiple techniques, she doesn't listen to the customer, she apparently wants to style it the only way she knows how, and she lacked basic customer service skills. She kicked me out and did not care that I was upset.

A week later, when I called to cancel the appointment that Amanda set up for me, the receptionist said it was not in the computer. Either she cancelled me without informing me, or they don't have a very well run front of the house. Neither stylist listened to me very well. Obviously this is one of those high volume, quick turnaround establishments. I received very poor service, and do not recommend either stylist named here.
