+ -1 moreI called Bauer Stoves in March 2007. The owner, Don Bauer, said that the hearth is under warranty and will likely need replacing, but that owners of the company that produced the hearth were out at a trade show. Don said that he would check with American Panel and then give us a call back. Weeks went by and Bauer Stoves had yet to call us back. We called again on May 22nd but this time we were told American Panel was on vacation. Another two weeks went by and still no word. We had no recourse but to file with the Better Business Bureau (Case #70030772) to get this resolved. After the BBB got involved, we were finally contacted by Bauer Stoves. But the owner was not willing to deliver the new hearth pad. This forced us to remove the 400+ pound woodstove and its chimney, lift the 150+ pound hearth pad, and to borrow a truck to exchange for a new one. This is not my idea of customer service. With another minor issue we have had, I would not recommend Bauer Stoves & Fireplaces.
Description of Work: We purchased a Vermont Castings 'Encore' woodstove and a 54" corner style hearth pad (specified as Iron Rock) from Bauer Stoves & Firplaces on 7/29/06. The hearth pad was manufactured by American Panel out of Fruitport, Michigan. Bauer Stoves had a recommended installer so we used him. Installation took place on 9/21/06 and went fine except that the hearth pad was placed on top of the carpet and maybe should have been mounted and leveled directly over the underlayment. This may have led to cracking in the grout located inside the hearth pad as described later on this report. For the record, at the time of installation, we were not asked about whether the pad should be installed underneath the carpet or not. We trusted Bauer Stoves that the installation would be done correctly and in such a way as to not cause any issues later on, either with the stove or the hearth pad. In early 2007, the black grout in the hearth pad started falling out from various sections of the hearth.
