Insulation Service
After receiving three estimates for insulation, I chose Ben Long of Energy Efficient Insulation.
I wasn't sure what to think at first, Ben seemed like a regular working class guy when he came to the door.
The other two people had brochures, clipboards, etc.
The more Ben talked, the more I realized that he knew more about insulating my home than the others.
He seemed to eat and breath insulation and liked to share his knowledge.
He was the only one of the three that pointed out that my bathroom fan should be vented to the outside. But he also said that he didn't have to do it and that he would charge less if he didn't. Also, I have a very large whole house fan in my ceiling. The other two contractors didn't say a word about it. Ben told me that he would build a frame around it so it wouldn't get covered with insulation. He then made a cap for the frame and insulated that, also. He told me that I would have to remove the cap in the summer before using it.
In spite of these 'extras' he was still the low bidder by hundreds of dollars. He did use cellulose which is more economical, but he also said that he could give me a quote for fiberglass and spray in foam.
He also threw in some small extra items that he noticed during the job but which he didn't charge me for.
After he finished, he went through my basement with me pointing out things that I could do to make my home more energy efficient.
Definitely one of the better experiences that I have had with a home contractor.
