Dr. Schmakel placed bonding on my front teeth 20 years ago, due to some decalcification issues. I needed the bonding replaced, and was not happy with other dentists I have seen over the years. I saw that Dr. Schmakel opened an office near my house and decided to go back to him to see if he could replace the bonding, and also investigate some sensitivity issues I had been having for several years. I soon learned that my mouth was a mess! The other dentist that I had been seeing never investigated my tooth sensitivity issues, and just kept telling me to stop brushing so hard and use Sensodyne. Dr. Schmakel showed me, using a dental camera, the reason I was having all of these issues...I had 7 cracked molars, some of which were decaying in the cracks! How the other dentist missed this I will never know! I brush and floss my teeth twice a day, and take a great deal of pride in my teeth. I was horrified at this!
Dr. Schmakel did not stop there, however. He didn't want to simply repair the teeth, but get down to the cause of the cracked molars. He asked some questions and did some looking around in my mouth. He even asked about my migraine headaches. He came to the conclusion that I clench my teeth at night, causing the cracked molars, and probably a great deal of my migraine headaches. We soon came up with a plan to get my dental health back in order. Unfortunately, it was going to cost me a what I consider to be LOT of money. (Almost $10,000 to repair 7 cracked molars, get an NTI device, and replace the bonding on my front teeth which was discolored and cracked after 20 years.)
Of course, I did take the my dental plan and contact a couple other dentists to see what they thought. Much like you'd take your car to get a couple of estimates. I soon discovered that Dr. Schmakel's plan was not only the most comprehensive, but also the most affordable. Dr. Schmakel uses a cerec machine to create inlays and onlays to restore your teeth in one visit, rather than having crowns which normally take 2 visits. Additionally, this method retains more of the natural tooth structure and integrity. On top of all of that, it was less expensive than the crowns! I quickly made an appointment to begin my mouth renovations.
It took me about six months to get all of my dental work done. The office staff reviewed the pricing and payment options with me, and Dr. Schmakel and I worked out a plan that would address the most severe issues first, including my night teeth clenching problem.
To make a long story short, my teeth are all in good order, I have an NTI device to prevent teeth clenching, and he removed the bonding on my front teeth and replaced them with veneers to ensure that they would last a very long time. As a bonus, the NTI device has greatly reduced the frequency and severity of my migraines! I am very happy with my smile and my dental health. I would recommend Dr. Schmakel's office and his staff without reservation.
