As I write this we've only had the car for maybe two months, so it's possible that something will go horribly wrong and my opinion will completely change!
But I thought that dealing with Grogan was an unusually pleasant experience for working with a used car dealer. They didn't play any of the silly games that used car dealers so often play. They quoted me a price for the car, I offered them somewhat less, they came back with a counter-offer in the middle that I thought was reasonable, and that was it.
Before I went I had checked with my bank on what kind of loan they could give me. I told Grogan that if they could do as good or better I'd get the loan through them for the convenience. They got me a loan that was slightly different terms, probably slightly better.
The car appears to be running fine. No nasty surprises.
The only thing they did that annoyed me was when they gave me a paper with loan options they had come up with, they factored in a service contract. The paper was structured to show costs for several different levels of service contract. and quot;No service contractand quot; was on the sheet but in smaller print off to the side. My point is that they were trying to push the service contract on me as and quot;which do you wantand quot; rather than and quot;do you want oneand quot;. But when I said I didn't want a service contract, they just said okay and promptly dropped it. No hard sell.
Upon our uneventful return (relying this time on a hand-held GPS) to the Toledo area, we contacted Grogan to request an upgrade on the faulty system and were informed that it would cost us $150-200 to have it upgraded. Keep in mind that the system was definitely out of date when we leased the car. No different than leasing a residence and being require to pay for a faulty heating system! Rather than paying the extortion, we will put the money toward a better personal GPS and will never deal with either Chrysler or Grogan again.
If a company cannot stand behind their products, they do not deserve our business.
