We utilized KNK Construction to build a poured retaining wall to match our current barn foundation. Nate Brown, the owner, had come out several times and quoted several other jobs for us that we had awarded to him. In our estimate Nate had quoted a 12” wall. He had some trouble obtaining the proper forms, and when he was able to do so we gave him the go ahead. Without further discussion, he changed it to an 8” wall with pillars. By the time I had noticed this it was too late to change it, the wall was formed, the trucks were there, it was late, and the crew was rushing to get everything done. As they started to pour the wall I ask Nate if they were going to vibrate the concrete. He told me no they would utilize rebar and move it back-and-forth and it would be just fine. I am pretty sure they also did not use any form lubricant. At this point I was extremely nervous as I have been involved in a lot of concrete work and had never seen it done the way it was done by Nate Brown and KNK. We had not given KNK any certain timeline on this job. He created his own deadline, got into a rush, and I am the one that paid for it. I had requested Nate to send me pictures when it was done because I was out of town. Oddly Nate never sent anything. The next day my wife went out, and It became very apparent why no photos were sent. The wall had huge unfilled seams through it, as nothing was vibrated or blended, and the wall has honeycombs in it and looks horrible. On top of this they tried to patch it with mortar, and the mortar has already cracked. Not only this but they did not account for the floor and set the doorway on the foundation, so it is a foot low. They were supposed to put a window in but did not. Lastly, the walls are not straight, and the end caps are uneven. Plain and simply everything that could have been done wrong on this wall was. I drove straight to the job site to see the wall and I was met there by Nate. He told me he agreed it looked horrible and that he would patch it together and it could take several coats to do that. I told him please do not waste your time the wall is plain and simply wrong it does not match the wall next to it we need to tear it out and start over. Nate sent me a text saying he did not want to tear the wall out, but he would send his guys out to get their stuff and refund my money. Shortly after his guys left, I sent him over several pictures since we were looking at it in the dark originally. The reply I got from him was that I can send as many pictures as I want, he is not coming back, and he is not going to refund my money. Nate has now collected $5,000 of my deposit, and I have a wall that is going to cost several thousand dollars to remove just to be left to start with nothing. I requested KNK’s insurance information and was forwarded to his attorney. I sent them detailed photographs along with a request for insurance information and or a refund. Neither Nate Brown nor his attorney has responded at this time. Plain and simple, he did the worst job I have ever seen, be very cautious if you decide to use this company, and make sure you get KNK’s insurance information upfront and do not pay until the job is done or you may end up in the same situation I am currently in.
