internet service

I live in a rural area where neither the phone company, nor cable TV offers High Speed Internet. So, a few years ago when L&M started providing their service, I jumped on it immediately. It was a great improvement from dial-up. I'm currently paying for 2 meg service, but I usually only get between 1 to 1.8 meg. There are times however, when I get much less than 1 meg. I have several internet test programs that I use to analyze internet problems, and they indicate a lack of bandwidth, when I am experiencing problems. Outages can be expected if there are lightning storms around, and since they must not stock spare components, it might be out hours. Also, they must not utilize UPS or emergency battery backup, as any power outage will interrupt service. The family that operates this service is always friendly and pleasant, and are pleasant to do business with. Tom is the main technical contact, and is a good person to work with, and tries very hard to correct the issues as they arise. Bottom line... the service can be very good, but it lacks consistency. This may be incumbent with wireless technology such as this. When this is the only internet available, it's hard to be too critical. I would recommend the service to anyone, unless you plan on using VOIP for your telephone service. I don't think it would be very reliable in an emergency. UPDATE 1/14/12 Well my half decent service was short lived. It's bad to just being plain lousy. I've had several conversations with Tom about the poor quality, and he doesn't seem concerned. But, since L&M is the only game in town, I have to live with it. If you have any other options, avoid this outfit.
Description of Work: L&M Electronics provides wireless internet service under the name Access Ohio Valley. They have several plans for different connection speeds, as most ISP's have. The cheapest rate, 768kbs is $32 a month. 1meg service is $42, and 2meg is $58. There are other faster (and more expensive) plans. I am paying for the 2 meg service currently.
