Ken was great. We met once to go over the process and a second time once he had completed the returns. He took the time to explain how the numbers broke down and allowed me to ask several questions, which I greatly appreciated. He knows all the technical details but explained things in a way that was very easy to understand. He took care of all the heavy lifting so I didn't have to worry! Thank you!

The key to stress-free tax return preparation and filing is having an excellent accountant. Ken is that accountant! His professionalism and expertise is grounded in an unflappable and methodical approach. Ken's at ease with his clients, taking a friendly interest in them beyond the details needed to complete their returns. He's patient, explains things clearly, and never rushes through client meetings. We also appreciate that Ken's up-to-date in using electronic filing methods and digital documentation (PDFs) for his client organizer form and the completed returns. It's a huge time (and paper) saver not having to store or scan hard copies!

I found Ken on Angies List and contacted him at the beginning of April regarding filing my taxes. We met on 4/2 and I provided him with all of my tax-related information. He indicated he would file an extension by 4/15 and complete my taxes around June. This was reasonable considering how late I had waited to contact someone. The extension was filed on time and the completed taxes were filed and reviewed with me on 6/20. All of my support documents and tax return copies were delivered in a nice folder.
This was the first time I have used a third party to file my taxes, but due to stock options and dividends which I had never previously had I felt I needed an expert. Ken invoiced me for the price he quoted me, even though the actual work came out to a higher cost. He was knowledgeable and professional, and kept me informed via email of the extension filing and tax completion. His extended hours in the evening allowed me to avoid taking time off from work. I will definitely use Ken for my tax returns in the future.

It went fine. It was just advice. He didn't actually do my taxes. He just gave me some advice on what to do. I had some technical questions on real estate transactions that I wasn't familiar with. I was there an hour and I guess that is not a bad price for an hour.

We were extremely impressed with Mr. Kofsky's level of professionalism, the punctuality of his responsiveness, as well as his knowledge of intricate tax issues. We did not hire him because our regular CPA finally came back from vacation and contacted us. However, Mr. Kofsky provided some extremely valuable legal advice and my wife and I highly recommend his services!

I got a quote from H and R Block for our relatively complicated taxes and it came to $660 (which was just crazy). Ken did it for $340 after the Angie's List discount. Beyond this, he perfectly completed a relatively complex tax filing we needed done. Not all accountants are competent in the nuanced filing we needed done, and Ken did it perfectly. Very happy, we have found our permanent accountant.

Granted I was the one who made the original mistake in not giving Mr. Kofsky complete information. He did have my tax returns from last year and I was expecting he would compare them to this years and realize some information was missing. He did not
When he first completed my taxes in March I realized immediately there was some mistake and gave him the missing statements a week later. He told me there was absolutely no way he could file an amended form before April 15th and said there was almost never a penalty.
I have never been late with my taxes before and I begged him to file the amended forms before the 15th. My financial adviser even figured out the changes. Ken finally broke down and did the amended forms on April 14 at 8 PM and was quite nasty the entire time. The additional fee also seemed excessive although I am not sure how long it actually took him.
My taxes are complex which is why I started early and made sure he had my past year returns which were done by an accountant in a different state. To sum up while the original mistake was mine Mr. Kofsky did nothing to try to help me.

"I did review the client's prior year return, but she has an extensive stock portfolio and there was only a small amount of income for which she failed to give me the 1099's. I filed her return on time but she demanded that I file an amended return by April 15. I told her I had a great number of other client's returns to file by April 15 and I would get to her 1040X by the end of that week. She kept insisting that I file her amended return even before I filed my other clients 1040's. I told her that she is in compliance since I filed her 1040 before the due date but she was insistent. I finally agreed to file her amended return on April 15 after I finished all my other 1040's and extensions. She picked up her amended return at 5pm on the 15th. I am sorry that was not good enough service. I always try to exceed my clients expectations and give them the very best service. I thought I did my very best for her under the circumstances and the deadlines faced by a one person office."

Ken has worked and completed our taxes now for three years. He is very good. He understands the tax code, and keeps up to date with they yearly changes. He has never made any mistakes or experienced issues with our returns. I would recommend his services.

Not the professionalism I was expecting. He mistakenly tried to have me file a village income tax return when I didn't live in the village. I understand there may have been a mistake in whatever service he used to determine this, but that is not my problem. Had I not challenged this, I would have had hassles with the village to clear up that problem.
My biggest concern was that he raised the price he charged me from what he originally quoted me. On my initial visit, after he reviewed my case, he quoted me $225 to $275 depending on the complexity of the return. (It is NOT a very complex filing.) After he completed it, he told me that I would be better off filing seperate rather than joint returns and that the extra time he put in would cost me $100 extra. Joint vs seperate is not a complexity issue, it is a professional decision to know from experience the best way to go. He still just had to enter the raw data once and I expected him to have the applicable software to make that switch fairly easily.
Then, the final price wasn't the $275 he said would be my maximum, he added $100 to that and charged me $375 (less a $10 Angies discount). After expressing my dissatisfaction with his approach, he did drop my final charge to $315, but that was still $40 - $65 higher than it should have been.
I think I will switch to a tax consultant who uses a better software package that what Mr Kofsky uses and maybe it won't cost me as much.

"The Ohio Dept of taxation website had his home incorrectly listed as in the village. I brought that to his attention and he disputed that fact. I checked further with the county and found out he was correct, so I don't think we were close to filing incorrectly. If it had happened I would of worked to correct it at no charge. I thought I had reviewed my pricing with him when we met the first time. I do charge a little more for separate filings but it usually results in a big savings in tax. I use one of the top software packages in the business, but tax law can be complex and I do not rely solely on the software. I also do research and whatever is necessary to give the best service to the client. I obviously did not do a good job of communicating my pricing with the client and for that I am very sorry. I pride myself on being upfront with my clients and doing the best job possible for them."
