How do I go out to someone who hasn't completed the job. Carpet padding was put down and not stapled. Which caused the carpet to buckle. I cannot seem to find the owner of the company he seems as though he's change the name. Can you help me

The tile guys we used were part of Fix it Right Construction.  They got us the subcontractors that we used and they did a good job.  I thought the price was very good because I did a comparison and theirs was a lesser bid.

They didn't deliver on any of the promises they made. They missed every deadline multiple times. The work was shoddy at best. The straw that broke the camel's back was that while installing our duct work they didn't connect the ducts to anything (it was only heating our crawlspace and not the whole house). We are now six months out and everything is falling apart. Grout is falling out, tile is cracking, the shower is bowing, the plumbing fixtures are all loose, & we had to repair the ductwork ourselves.

He has stopped returning or answering my calls, which was a problem when he was actually on the job not just afterwards.

Bill was great to work with. I had a mold problem in the basement because of water intrusion for multiple reasons.  Bill took his time to find out where the water was coming from and to fix the problem.  This was great because other people I had come out to give me an estimate basically guessed on what they thought the problem was.  We ended up having to redo the entire basement, replace the deck boards, add a french drain, add top soil all around the house, and fix all the gutters.  I'm glad Bill took his time because now I know all the problems are fixed.  The people that work for him are great also.  Very friendly, good at what they do, and clean up after themselves.  I wouldn't hesitate to hire Bill again.

I initiated contact with this provider on April 20th and the work was not completed until July 19th!    We exchanged multiple emails and phone calls and the provider was clearly overwhelmed with the amount of work that the "Big Deal" created.  The emails and phone conversations were pleasant, but much of the conversations were about how they had so much work to do and were doing the best they could.  I ended up completing some of work myself because of the long delay in scheduling.  Also, though the worker was very professional and polite, he left after 6 hours despite the fact that I paid for 8 hours of work.  He did complete the tasks on the list, but I would have liked to have added more given I pre-paid for 8 hours.   The work was sufficient, not excellent.   I strongly recommend that Angie's List does not offer this provider another opportunity to post a "Big Deal".    I would also recommend other customers explore other companies before they select this one to do any home repair.

Purchased the big deal in March 2013.  Procrastinated until first of April due to indecision as to what project to do first. Every time we tried to schedule we were told he was busy and would call the next week to schedule. Never happened.  After about 3 tries we finally sent him an email stating that if he was not going to be do the work we wanted a refund of our money. We received a reply within the hour from his wife requesting a phone call from us to schedule a time for him to do the work.  That was to take place the following week.  He was to arrive @ 8 a.m. and arrived @10 a.m. It was misting outside and he did not want to ruin the pegboard in his open bed truck. Prior to this he had come out to figure up how much pegboard he would need and additional supplies.  So on this day the first thing he asked was did I want to leave the insulation in, which I said yes.  We had insulated because we had hoped to have it drywalled.  He said he could use furring strips to attach the pegboard to give us additional room to hang things from the pegboard which sounded great to me. He had not estimated enough pegboard so he had to make another trip. I only wish my husband had been here upon completion because at first glance I thought it was fine. I paid him a little extra because I was so happy to finally have it done.  But after he left, my husband noticed he didn?t clean up, he cut the boards extremely sloppy, very crooked.  Overlapped them in the corners in places and there are gapping separations between the boards because they are alined crooked.  He had pulled out all of the insulation and tossed it on the other side of the garage behind where we had pushed all of our stuff into the center of the garage which I had not noticed. I feel like such a fool.  We discussed the insulation.  At the time when he came out to do the estimate, if he had mentioned that he would need to pull out the insulation & why, I would have been fine with it.  He brought it up again the day of the job but instead of doing what he said he would do, he removed it without the common courtesy of letting me know.  We have a 3 car garage and 1/3 of it is drywalled. Imagine the amount of drywall we need to dispose of.  This is not a job that reflects the high caliber of work a construction boss should be doing. It reflects his attitude toward doing a small insignificant job.  A job if it had been done well, I am sure we would have hired him for others.  I have called some contractors in the past and was appreciative when they told me that the job was too small for them and some even recommended us to other people who would do the work for us.  Honesty is the best policy.

I complained about the service I was getting from this provider primarily the tardiness -  delayed well beyond the expected time and often a disconnect between words and actions, which has caused a lot of inconvenience to my family. In speaking with him today, he has assured me that all of the work will be expedited to completion and I am modifying my review to reflect that.

It's not over yet but hopefully, it will be a much better experience henceforth and that I'll be able to give a positive feedback.

UPDATE:  This is an update to my June post. Bill and I finally worked through the issues and the pace of work picked up thereafter. I am very pleased with my kitchen. In summary, Bill is a good guy to work with, he needs to pace his work schedule better.  I would use his services again because of the quality of his work, and the hindsight of knowing how to manage the process of working with him.

My 1961 was designed with a drywall ceiling on the front porch.  At the seams where drywall tape was used, it would not hold and crack.  Numerous fixes to patch this problem never worked.  I deceided to try and "cover" up the cracks with wood base boxes.  Luckily, the cracks at the seams, were uniform thus the boxes look evenly spaced.
I sent a email to Fix it Right Construction and was contacted by Bill Hermanson the very same day.  He met me at my house two days later and set up work for the same Saturday.
Very prompt service!!!

We found out about Fix It Right via an Angie's List Big Deal email.  Bill got out very quickly to scope the work and generally returned all my phone calls in a matter of minutes.  His estimate was very good as compared to competing companies, so based on Angie's List reputation and contact with some references we decided to give him the job.
Jeff the carpenter did an excellent job.  He had good ideas about how to handle the various wood repairs, worked quickly and efficiently, and cleaned up very well.  He used a combination of treated lumber and synthetic trim board to achieve a result that would be long lasting.  I would ask for him again for general carpentry/remodeling work whenever possible.
The only drawback with Fix It Right was that Bill didn't keep me too well informed of Jeff's plans to come out and do the work; on Jeff's first visit I just happened (luckily) to find him parked in our driveway when I got home from a morning errand.  I had to call Bill on a couple of occasions to find out the plans for Jeff's subsequent visit.   It seemed to me that with larger projects on Bill's plate we may have fallen through the cracks in this regard.
In any case I would summarize by saying that this company does quality work at a very fair price, is generally easy to work with, and I would consider using them again for other projects.

Bill was very responsive and cooperative. He came out the day after I contacted him because I told him we were anxious to get the project underway. He worked very diligently and did an excellent job overall. He was not expecting to work on the wainscoting so did not have the best tools with him for the job, but still did adequate work. He is more of a general contractor than a finish carpenter, thus the B rating on quality. However, my husband said he could not have done it as well, so we are happy with the work. His drywall work was very good. He was very easy to work with and very accommodating.

We're getting our house ready to sell so we can move to another state.  We've been in our house over 20 years and the bathrooms were showing their age.  The main bathroom originally had blue tile.  The grout discolored over the years and looked ugly.  The porcelain sink in the vanity was badly chipped/scratched and the fan did not work.  The toilet had its own set of issues.  After going to home shows and looking online for remodelers for several months, both on and off Angie's List, I saw that some remodelers ran special deals from time-to-time on Angie's List.  I almost bought one last fall but changed my mind.  I talked to some other builders and friends/relatives that knew a thing or two about remodeling and even got a couple of estimates.  Armed with more information, I watched for another Angie's List big deal to come along and purchased the one from Fix it Right.  Their ad was more complete than others.  One other similar add said they would do the demolition but not haul away debris.  Fix it Right's ad said he would do it all.
After purchasing the deal, the owner, Bill called and we set up a meeting time that was convenient to us.  He asked what we wanted done and described what he could do for us.  Since we didn't want tile in the new bath, he allowed us to shift the monies around so we could get better flooring and an upgraded vanity.  We picked out everything we wanted in the new bath although Bill helped us coordinate the colors as he's good at that.  Since I work odd hours, I didn't want Bill or his crew to start early in the morning.  They were willing to work around our schedule, which was good.  Jeff was the main worker assigned to our project and did nearly all of the work by himself.  Bill prides himself on making sure we were happy with every detail and didn't consider the job done until we said so.
Since they did such a good job on the main bath, I had them come back to do the master bath as well and for the same price.  The nearest quote I got from another company to do exactly the same work on the master bath was $3,000 higher.  That job was to replace the shower, toilet, vanity and flooring in a room twice the size of the main bath.  That project came out every bit as good as the first one. They even fixed the squeaky floor.  We are very happy with the work they did.

We would ahve them check things with there own objective eyes each night or when we were completed. THey would ask good questions or point things out and we responded. There was just fantastic to work with and this is how we want all of our jobs to go. Thank you for the page of happiness award.Bill"

Used with a deal from Angie's list....
Was 45 minutes late, with no phone call, for initial meeting.
Although business hours for Sat and Sunday were listed on Angie's list, he pressured us into letting them do the work on a weekday(s), when we were at work.
Came three times....did partial work twice, but did not clean up debris (old screens, spline) on first two occasions.
Tore out a large plant, threw it and its trellis on the ground, didn't replace and didn't mention.
I came home early on day of work completion...workman had uncapped a broken outdoor faucet to fill a gallon jug with water. Water was not turned off properly, and was running onto porch(who knows how long this lasted). Then, again filled gallon jug from another faucet before leaving for home.
Response from Fix it Right Construction
"[member name removed] was a pleasure to work with. They bought the wrong material so we had to come back a second time to start the job. They were prepared for us and went and bought the correct size screens. Cleaning up after a project is very important and reflects good professionalism. We agree with [member name removed] about hauling the bag of old screens we left there by accident and wont let it happen again. customers are the most important thing to us and we really like our customers to stay happy. We liked [member name removed] and would love to work with her again in the future."

Fix it Right Construction did an amazing job. They were prompt, honest, and did everything right.  They explained what they were doing every step of the way and even answered several questions we had that were unrelated to what they were working on.  I plan on using them in the future anytime I need help repairing or remodeling my home.

Went fine.  Owner of the company took me to the store to buy a new toilet.  They didn't charge extra for that service.  The old toilet's parts were worn, and it used more water than the new one.  Service went well.

The construction company and crew were awesome. They came in at 6am and worked until sometimes 6pm. They worked h****** this project. There had been a fire and if you see the house today you would not believe it was the same house. What a transformation.
Response from Fix it Right Construction
"Customer was a pleasure to work with and we enjoyed helping transform this house that fire damage into a warm place she can call home. We worked together to keep everything on schedule and she was very understanding of our early work schedule. Im glad we met and hope we earned a customer for life. Not only is she a customer but feels more like a family with her kind words and friendly attitude. I hope we can do more jobs in the future."
