Our experience with the Brick Kicker was excellent. Doug arrived early, was thorough and explained his entire process throughout the inspection. During the inspection Doug found several concerns that helped save us from a costly mistake. Would absolutely recommend Doug and the Brick Kicker to family and friends and anyone shopping for a home!

Professional, reliable, responsive and knowledgeable. We hired this company to inspect a home we were purchasing in Westerville. My daughter used them a year earlier and was very pleased. Inspector was thorough, courteous and answered all our questions. He noted a potential plumbing problem, which required a second opinion a week later. Long story short, they came back with another inspector the day after I called and did a second look. Great service. I would hire them again in an instant. Five stars for this company. I can't say enough.

I hired Brick Kicker on the advice of our realtor. The gentleman that came out was named Chris. He was on time. When he began the inspection I asked if I could follow him and ask questions. His response was " This usually takes 2-2.5 hours so questions will take longer". This didn't start good. He began the inspection and it was as expected until he suddenly started to get an attitude. He got his ladder out of his car and started throwing it around and mumbling under his breath. He started cussing and complaining about how much work this was going to be. He then started throwing his clipboard around and mumbling more under his breath.
This continued throughout the inspection. It got so bad I was going to ask him to leave. If I didn't have to get this inspection done so quickly I would have. I pushed through and finished the inspection.
At the conclusion he gave the house a thumbs up and said all was good. i had an electrician come out the next day. He pointed out an alarming amount of severe problems with the electric panel that the inspector missed. The electrician was a friend so he wasn't trying to sell me something. If I did not have him check it out things could have been bad with the electric.
After I received the complete inspection I contacted the owner. He said he was concerned with my complaints and wanted to know what I wanted. I told him I didn't want anything I just wanted him to know the service I paid for was completely unprofessional and the inspector missed some things. He defended his inspector and said he would ask him about it and get back to me. He has not got back to me.
I would never use this company again and would recommend no one else use them.

"I am the owner of the company and I remember speaking to the reviewer's husband. I agree that I asked if he wanted me to do anything. He did not make any specific requests except to state he was complaining. Obviously I am disappointed if the client was unsatisfied. If I failed to respond back to him, then I will accept that fault. For the record, our inspector was disciplined for his actions and treatment of the customer."

He found several issues that were minimum at best. Scared the buyer with his lack of knowledge. Took the front off the furnace and said that it was working but recommended that we hire a HVAC professional to check the system. Did not know how to check the AC system since it was cold out. Said there was a problem because the breaker to the hot tub was turned off even though we didn't have a hot tub. Why would the breaker be turned "on"? He was unable to to see which part of the roof's ridge vent had been replaced 3 years earlier and wanted all written receipts for the repair work. He scared the buyers into thinking the entire roof needed replaced because of a single missing tab on a shingle which wasn't exposing anything. He made an issue about a decorative trim piece near the roof's overhang. He told the buyers that bugs could eventually get into the house even though the siding still went clear into the "J" channel. The only thing behind the trim was siding but he was concerned about the gap between the trim and the siding where the siding was closer to the house.

"At the request of Angie's List representative, I have reviewed this report and need to STATE CLEARLY that this reviewer is not our client. He has no ability to determine whether or not to hire us. He was the seller of the home. In our report, we DID NOT recommend that a new roof be installed, we DID NOT recommend that a heating and cooling contractor be hired to inspect the roof, we DID NOT state that a hot tub was present (we did actually state that no hot tub existed). We did suggest verifying if a hot tub had ever been present. We believe that the owner of the home was angry with the potential buyer because they either did not buy the home or requested information from him after the inspection. Regarding the air conditioner not be inspected, we clearly stated that we could not test the system in the middle of January because it was too cold to safely operate the unit."

"At the request of Angies List representative, we have reviewed this file. WE DON'T know how to respond to this review because this reviewer is NOT listed as our client. The review was written one and a half years after our inspection was performed. For all we know, this person had another inspector perform the inspection. This home was vacant and had experienced flooding prior to our arrival (the clean up crew was present when we performed the inspection)."

His report had many, many errors: radon test stated house was occupied (was empty), could not fully inspect bathroom floor because of carpet on floor (no carpet ever on floor), fireplace in living room (no fireplace in LR), presence of carpenter bees (visible places where they tried to go through the wood, but none in walls; recommended extermination......how??? they are in the air and could come from a neighboring house). Frightened prospective buyer by saying dark spots in attic could be mold; finally they talked to mold abatement person and were assured that even it was mold, it would not be all through the house. Said no screens on windows......screens roll down from the top of the window to the bottom and were up at the time. Went into the house to inspect for pests without scheduling visit (did apologize when I complained). Too many errors to put here. He almost lost the sale for us. I would never recommend this man or this company.
Response from BRICKKICKER HOME INSPECTION
"Per request of Angie's List Representative, we have reviewed this report. We are definitely disputing reviewer's comments. First of all, the reviewer is NOT OUR CLIENT so that can't recommend whether to hire us again. I suspect the seller may have been angry at having to make repairs to the home or was angry with the buyer. Our report states presence of carpenter bees with treatment recommended. That is what we are obligated to do under State of Ohio Termite licensing procedures. Our report does NOT state that a living room fireplace exists. Our report states one fireplace is present which is in the basement (our report photograph shows the fireplace in the basement). Our report shows several pictures of suspected "mold" materials in the attic. We cannot and will comment on what a mold abatement company would say to the buyer. We cannot comment on the presence of carpet in the bathroom because we have no photo for support. The inspector radon report stating house was occupied was incorrect. The inspector was disciplined for this oversight. Our inspector did make a mistake by entering the home without permission for the termite inspection. No excuse intended, but he had another inspection in the same neighborhood and he entered the home without permission. He was disciplined for this mistake in judgement. As a company, we wrote the owners of the home an apology letter."

We hired Rod Berning of BrickKicker Home Inspection on three separate occasions, and were extremely satisfied with the services provided. Rod is professional, honest and his attention to detail is second to none. His reports are thorough and delivered on time, and at a fair price. We highly recommend his company, and will use his services again when the time comes.

Pointed out what his concerns were and assured clients that the fixes could be done with the proper know how. Was sensitive to the clients needs and time. All reports were to myself & client's within 24 hours. Buyers were very pleased with Rod's services.

I had a bad experience when I bought my house. He was lousy and has costs us many, many dollars. His blatant oversights things were caught immediately by another inspector. It is a very expensive service. They charged me very expensive amount of money and they didn’t perform half of the inspection. The things that were overlooked were atrocious. When I contacted them in the first year were there was limited liability they took my complaint and every time I tried to contact them back they would transfer me and disconnect my call and I have never heard from them. When we got here to meet him for the inspection he said he arrived an hour early and already started the inspection. He spent about an hour and a half with us and after that he tested the water, but the water system was turned off and we have well system here. He damaged the air way tank of the house and that cost me $575 the first week that we lived here. He missed broken pipes, broken outlets in the wall. He said priority was ours but when we went to change the outlets the cable fell apart and crumbled in our hand so we had to redo the electrical and the phone system. He just over sighted everything. We had him do termite inspection as there were termites on the front porch and we had termites removed. They were things that were blatantly overlooked. We had a construction crew in here and we had to replace the furnace, vent system and all the installation had to be done. There was no installation in the old attic. He was an hour early before the appointment and he was on time. He didn’t do the part of the inspection. He refused to respond. I would not recommend him to anyone and not even for a bug inspection.
Response from BRICKKICKER HOME INSPECTION
"At request of Angie's List representative, we have reviewed this report. We found many issues with the home listed in the report including a recommendation for further review by several contractor specialists. Our report states the water was on at the inspection. The presence of a State of Ohio well report confirms the water supply as being active. Our inspection did report almost no attic insulation in places of the attic. We did not damage any air tanks in this home. I am the owner of the business. My inspectors have always been upfront with me if something should ever be damaged during an inspection. In addition, the owner of the home would always notify us if something was damaged during an inspection. Regarding the statement that we "disconnected" follow up calls, I will dispute that statement because we were never contacted by this client. Regarding the fees charged, the client ordered several services, thus the total fee charged."

They did a very good job. There were no major problems. They had a checklist, and everything went over well. The worker was also very knowledgeable. They also gave us a printout of the inspection the next day.
