From day one to current (Aug 7th), I've received more "no call/no show" from contractor, Richard Coyle of American Roofing & Vinyl, then I've received accomplished work. I've also received more excuses than I can number as to why things are not being completed, or why they are not showing up, or why they don't have a crew, and can even document 16 lies. Not only did I fall for Richard's sincerity in telling me he needed to have the FULL $8442 the insurance company initially gave me so he could purchase the needed materials, but I also fell for the fact that he needed an additional $1500 for material of what the insurance didn't cover that I was having added (vent ridges, drip edges, 2 block windows). He did allow me to only pay $1000 of the $1500, but the total he received up front was $9442. The entire job (exterior/interior) was promised to be completed anywhere from 5 to 7 days max. As of today, it has been 18 days and only 60% of the interior work is completed (pending garage repair, hallway repair, install of block windows) and about 50% of the exterior completed (pending ice shields, shingles, ridge vents, new plumbing boot and vent stacks, or new flashings). It was on Friday, Aug 3rd, I learned I was his first roofing job in Ohio, and that he didn't have a crew in Ohio (said his crew was 'supposed' to come up from KY, but didn't), and those he hired temporarily to remove shingles and hang felting didn't have roofing experience (one was from a local shelter) . On the same day, I found out the contractor was planning a trip down to KY to meet with an adjuster and he had sub-contracted a crew to install shingles. I told Richard that I wanted either him or his manager Walt to be here since it was THEIR company I hired. Again, another promise he gave that was broken...as of 3pm Aug 7th, still no show, even though he called at 6:44am saying he was on his way. I've tried several times to call again, and so has the new crew from Belle Crest Construction, but no calls are being returned. Thankfully the Belle Crest Construction crew did show up and they found several problems with the work already completed and that wasn't up to code, along with a roof repair that had to be completely torn out by the new crew in order for shingles to even been hung. As of today, IF Richard shows up, he will be fired and the new crew, who has in one day just about completed the job, has thankfully agreed to be paid the balance of what the insurance is paying at completion of job. Many thanks to Belle Crest Construction for being hardworking men of integrity that have already proven to do excellent work. I would HIGHLY recommend Belle Crest as quality professionals...and HIGHLY recommend NOT using American Roofing & Vinyl.
UPDATED AUGUST 8, 2012:
Update to my review submitted yesterday: It was learned last night that Richard Coyle, owner of American Roofing & Vinyl, LLC has an alias of Richard Roberts from the Danville, KY area, and affiliated with company names Fuzion Homes and General Contracting. It was also learned that the address provided on the contract is bogus...does not exist. My stupidity to fall for all his smooth talking and empty promises is frankly unexcusable, but please folks....don't fall for it too!
