Downs Septic Drain & Excavating

20 mins after the appointment time I called to ask where the were. was told they would be arrive in 45 mins, a total of 1 hour late. At 3:10 I called to see if they were still coming, got no call back. They arrived 1 hour and 20 mins late and they NEVER called me to say they would be late. They cleared one drain, but left it in a puddle of thick mud and it filled up with mud. I had to clean it out myself. Another drain they spent less than 10 mins on, said they couldn't do it and to tear out the concrete driveway to fix it. They had a camera and couldn't tell me what was wrong, they had a snake and didn't snake it, they had a sewer jet and couldn't jet it. I called the owner to ask why they couldn't clear it. Owner, Mike, promised to call me the next day. He NEVER CALLED. I called two more days, NO RESPONSE. It's been two weeks! My basement FLOODS when it rains. They said the drain the cleared would never flood again and it still does.

It was done very well.

This contractor was very informative in explaining how the septic system worked and the parts that make up the system.
Only thing I didn't like was that the current system might not meet the new rules that had just been put into effect and it would be costly to update.

They told us one side of the house was fine, but couldn't even get the camera down the other side -- drainage was broken.  
We called later -- either within that same day or two days after.  Downs promised they would come out to provide a quote for running a new drain on the left side of the house to replace what no longer worked.  We never heard from Downs.  
We did a follow-up call later, again requesting a quote and still did not hear from Downs.

I called Monday morning, they arrived that same afternoon and snaked out the drain within 45 minutes. Both men were very helpful in terms of answering questions and they were sure to clean up before they left. Great job.

They have done my septic system every other year for about 20 years.  They are prompt, reliable, neat, careful and refill the access hole.  They send me a reminder every other year.
I'd recommend them to anyone who needs septic service.

Downs Service is always wonderful.  We have gotten to know the guys over the years and are long time, loyal customers. We have gotten estimates from others, but always come back to Downs, knowing they do the work right, and at a very fair price.  We haven't gotten our bill yet, but know it will be reasonable!

They showed up on time, completed the job without any issues.

Work was performed according to specifications.  Workers were polite to us and with each other.  All debris from the job was cleared away and site finishing is more than satisfactory.

I received an estimate from Randy in late May, which I accepted and was then put on the schedule for sometime in late June. With rain delays I understood it would be awhile before he would be able to get to our job. A couple of weeks later I was informed by my neighbors that they would be putting up a fence on the same side of my property on which some of the drains were to be installed. I knew that would mean that Randy's crew might not be able to get the equipment required for my job into that area since I have a fence on that side as well and the neighbors' new fence would make too narrow an area in which to do the work. I was distraught thinking that after waiting for over 10 years to finally get this problem addressed and resolved my neighbors insistence on putting up their fence just before my scheduled installation might force me to have to ditch the whole project. Randy was also concerned since even though he would instruct his crew to take every precaution, damage to my neighbor's new fence was a possibility in such a tight space. I asked him if he could possibly do just the side area before the date the neighbors had given me for their fence to be put up and then come back later and finish the project in my front yard. He rearranged his calendar and said he would make sure he could get the entire job done before the fence went up, which he did. I was very grateful for his understanding and willingness to accommodate my frustrating situation. And the best part is the standing water problem has been resolved and for the first time we no longer have a pond or an ice rink in our front yard!

They did not do the job they needed to do. They were totally unresponsive for a month despite repeated calls from me and my plumber. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They put a camera in all of the drains but they didn't take a video of it so there was no way to move forward. Then they were supposed to come up with a proposal as to how to fix it and about a month later, they asked the gas company to put little yellow flags to show where the gas line was but again they never called. They were really bad and they were recommended by other people and my plumber. He even called them to do the work but they were so unresponsive so he said he'd never use them again. They were unprofessional, not punctual, not quality and very bad value for the money. They should've done it right in the first place. Aside from getting in touch with them, they did not take a video. They did not record what they were supposed to record.

I had another plumber try for over 2 hours to clear the clogged sewer.
Downs had it done in under 45 minutes.

I will call no one else and will recommend them.

Last fall, they found tree roots in the pipeline. The explained the problem and took care of it without gouging me pricewise. Downs himself took care of this. People are courteous.professional.

It went very well. As soon as I saw their truck which was waiting for me when I arrived I remembered I had them out maybe 8 yrs earlier for the same thing. They did great then and they did great this time. Because I had problems earlier with another sewer company I watched the whole process. They ran the camera in and jet cleaned the drain. This did not clear it immediately  so they ran a cutter in and I saw as they cut each root as they went.  They explained what I was seeing. Even showing me a portion of another snake that was left behind in drain by the other technician.
   They were 2/3 less on there price than the other plumber company.
  A great overall experience. I would have these guys out again in a minute.

They put in new down spout drains that go to the street and I've also had them to remount drains and pipes previously.  They are very good and I was very pleased with the results both times I have used them.  They are very prompt, neat, and have given me some really good advice along the way.

Downs responded promptly to the call -- VERY promptly, within an hour or so -- and cleared a significant downstream sewer drain pipe stoppage quickly and efficiently.  The two-man team knew exactly what they were doing, down to immediately finding the outside cleanout that no one had seen in 50 years.  They protected their work area very well, and cleaned up after themselves thoroughly, and were polite, friendly and professional throughout.  My parents, who are older folks, could could not be happier with their work.
