"Thank you for taking time to send a review regarding work completed by our company. Contractors who subscribe to the BBB, Angie’s List, or such services, often provide services that meet or exceed good business practices. Value minded companies use procedures to assure clients of ethical business practices and workmanship will be completed for fair market prices. Many businesses, like ours, have systems in place offering services for specific price levels based on work performed. Higher Power Electric uses a national pricing guide listing many electric repairs & updates commonly performed in residential homes. Our staff presents a quote to the homeowner for approval prior to completing work. We were given approval to complete work requested by the homeowner for the amount quoted. Our staff then completed the work as quoted. The home owner had a choice to accept or decline the work, but they “chose” to accept our quote. The work performed did not involve complex electronic problem solving & not sure what the home owner was referring to. The install required setting controls for lights to operate a certain way. The owner called the next day to share two lights did not operate properly. Work was performed on Thursday, owner called next day (Friday), & we returned the following Wednesday for corrections. Our busy schedule prevented us from returning until the following week. I don’t believe that returning (6) days from original installation was excessive. The light fixtures were operational in a dusk-to-dawn manner instead of “only” when motion was detected. There was no safety hazard in how the fixtures operated. The home owner didn’t express noticeable concerns about the time to schedule a return trip and seemed to understand how busy that time of year was. In summary, our company performed the requested services, for an agreed price, in a professional and courteous manner and responded in a timely fashion for the lighting adjustments to meet the homeowner’s request."

"Our records indicate the work was completed on 11/24/15 and had a repair cost of $116.89, not $160. Our technician most likely provided an initial repair estimate for $160 to gain authorization to begin the repair. Once the actual repair need was determined, the initial repair cost estimate of $160 was lowered to $116.89. The homeowner was pleased with the repair completed and provided a signed approval on our invoice."
I contacted Higher Power Electric and was told that service calls are $50.00. I thought that sounded reasonable because two other companies that I contacted said that they charge $75.00 for service calls. I made my appointment two weeks in advance for Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 9:00 a.m.. Mr. Patrick Payne, the owner of the company called me at 9:15 a.m. and said that he was on his way. He arrived somewhere around 9:30 - 9:45 a.m. I explained as I did earlier on the telephone that I had a few receptacles that were not working due to a power surge. My electric went out for about 10 seconds and it messed up three receptacles. Mr. Payne noticed that one of the receptacles was a gfi type of receptacle. He said, "oh, you just need to press this button when the receptacle is tripped." NO REPAIRS WERE NEEDED. I thought to myself Yay! I asked Mr. Payne if the surge protector on my panel was okay and he said yes because the green light is still on. He kept talking on and on about how he likes to school people on how electricity works. I didn't ask him to do that. I did not ask him to talk on and on and on then charge me $228.00 to press the receptacle reset button. That was absolutely ridiculous. If I was a man, I seriously doubt Mr. Payne would have charged me. Since I did not know how to dispute the high fee, I went ahead and paid the check knowing that I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau the following day, and submit a report to Angie's List so I could warn other people.
I asked a City Electrical Inspector if resetting a receptacle outlet should cost me $228.00 and he said, "Are you kidding me?" I said no, I'm not kidding, Mr. Patrick Payne from High Power Electric robbed me. The inspector said that an honest contractor probably would not have charged me at all, knowing that the next time I had a real electrical issue I might call that same contractor back for real help. I don't care if Mr. Payne is the last electrician on earth. He should be ASHAMED of himself for treating me the way he did and robbing me of such a high dollar amount to reset a receptacle. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Central Ohio and I am demanding at least $178.00 back from Mr. Payne. He should refund me the entire amount. I cannot believe this guy thinks that he is a professional. I truly believe he is a misogynistic pig and I will not recommend his service to anyone. PLEASE DO NOT HIRE THIS SCOUNDREL.

(July 2014): Steve installed a whole-house surge protector and also installed four florescent light fixtures in our basement. He did an excellent job in all respects. Our email and phone contacts with the company were courteous and helpful, and we would not hesitate to use this company again or to recommend it to others. The cost of the work was within the estimate, Steve and Patrick put on plastic shoe-covers when they arrived (without being asked), and when I mentioned having them back to replace the photoelectric cell on our outside post lantern Steve said he would do it before he left -- and did. Great customer service all round!

He finished by telling me a few things that my husband might want to do to update a few outlets.

"We wish to thank [member name removed] for her recent review of the service our company provided for her. I do need to provide several clarifications regarding the work that was completed as follows: 1. The work that was preformed for [member name removed] was completed on 11/21/2013 2. Our invoiced amount was $148 not $250 3. Our technician first needed to determine what was causing several light fixtures from working 4. There were wall mounted fixtures located at both the garage and porch areas 5. It was determined that (2) fixtures had bad light bulbs & (2) fixtures had defective motion sensors 6. [Member name removed] asked the technician to replace the bad fixtures w/ owner furnished replacement fixtures 7. The project involved some diagnostic time to determine all the electric issues with the light fixtures 8. Once all the issues were determined, the repair recommendations could be offered 9. Work was completed in a timely manner and all fixtures operated that previously had issues 10. Our repair quote was presented and approved by [Member name removed] before repairs had begun 11. The repair amount was fair and our technician was thorough with his assessment of repair needs 12. Our company has provided past repair needs for [Member name removed] repair needs"
