This was great! Sal returned my 9am voicemail within 15 minutes. I took my snowblower (Sears Craftsman, 2 stage) to him at 10:30am. He diagnosed and clearly explained what was necessary, gave me the estimate (torn belt replacement, oil change, carburetor check, realign skids, reset loose wiring, general tune-up) . Said it would be ready LATER THAT AFTERNOON!?!?!? Sure enough, he called me at 3:30pm and said it was ready. I picked it up an hour later. He showed me what he did and I was on my way. I am DONE with those repair shops that charge you a $75 dollar fee just to accept your engine and then tell you it'll be 4 weeks until they can even look at it. Sal is my guy.

Sal is fantastic! My lawnmower had died at the end of last fall, and I decided to put off getting it repaired until this spring. I looked on Angie's List and found SMS Repair. Encouraged by the 70 (!) great reviews, I called Sal. He was able to get me in the next day. I dropped off my mower around 11am. He called about an hour later and told me it would ready soon, and by 3:30pm the lawn was mowed! He explained everything that he had done (including sharpening the blades and some other maintenance), and now it runs like a dream! I will certainly call him again whenever I need any other small motor repairs. I can't recommend him highly enough.

At the beginning of the mowing season this year, our John Deere rider refused to even turn over. I suspected that it was the battery, but know that I don't know enough to fuss around with more than that. Sal picked up the mower, diagnosed the problem and repaired the engine promptly (including replacing the battery).

Sal is a very nice guy. You can tell just by listening to him that he is very knowledgeable and really enjoys what he does. He picked up my snowblower and went over what could be wrong and what repairs he might need to do. The next day he dropped it off (it would of been the same day had I not missed his call) and explained that he gave it a complete maintenance repair and overhaul which included boiling the carburetor. It runs perfectly now.

Sal was awesome. He serviced a mower that no one else would touch. Mower runs great after his service. Will now use him for ALL my small engine repair.

Great. Sal picked up the mower and performed the repair and an annual service on the mower in a very reasonable amount of time. I'm new to the area and am so glad to have found someone reliable to service our lawnmower. I've already shared his contact information with a neighbor.

I took my leaf vac over for a second opinion on how bad the damage was,he identified the problem and had it up and running in 4 hours.

My husband called around 3:30 or 4:00 PM, and Sal said to bring it on over. What an angel he turned out to be!!! We were envisioning having to rent a mower somewhere, but Sal called a couple of hours later to say that our Toro was up and running. Generator was full of "gunk", so he did a full tune-up and also replaced a bad wheel. CAN YOU BELIEVE: SAME-DAY SERVICE!! SMS Service was able to both respond & complete work quickly, saving me from having to pay someone to mow while mowers were in the shop (as can be the case with some companies). Obvious that owner takes pride in his workmanship. Professional attitude. I would recommend this company to others.

The owner did a really good job of diagnosing the problem and fixing the mower. He went beyond the repair and made sure there were no leaks. He did the job in one day. The design of the lawn mower was somewhat unique and the owner did the internet research to buy the right parts and fix the problem properly. I was impressed and will take any motor equipment to him for repair.

SMS understands engines and can diagnose things that regular service companies would rather not deal with. The owner, Sal, is extremely knowledgeable. Sal and I talked by phone and he asked many questions about the mower before he picked it up. From the time he picked it up, it was less than 48 hours before he delivered it back to me in beautiful working condition. I have used it twice since and there are no issues with the operation. It runs and restarts after running hot. SMS repaired every problem with my machine, including mechanical things such as the the headlight cover, hood alignment, standard maintenance (oil change, lube, blade sharpening, etc.) Great Job.

Excellent. He was prompted and explained what could be the problem. Corrected the problems which was the carb., cleaned the mower and sharpened the blades. Found in addition, a dead mouse and plastic under the hood. It seems that they seem to like lawn mowers for homes. In addition, the mower was picked up and delivered back to me. This was a great help since I did not have to try to find a way to get it to his shop. I will hire him again, to look over my snow blower and to do any maintenance, if required, before the winter comes.

This was an easy and pleasant experience.  I found SMS Service here on Angie's.  I have used other small engine repair shops that run 90-95 hr and you are usually $150 at a minimum for anything.  So I thought I'd give SMS a try.  Turns out Sal is a retired mechanic and works out of his garage.  He was able to turn my mower around in 2 days.  A full tuneup on the mower, plus he straightened the deck.  He sharpened my blade as well. All of this for $75 fee, and Sal is very personable so it was a nice and easy experience.  I would recommend SMS Service to anyone with a small engine needing work.  Everything from weed wackers, blowers, mowers, etc,  Sal can work his magic.  Give him a shot.

Sal worked around my busy schedule to arrange to pick-up my snowblower, which was not starting.  The repair work was done the very next day & Sal immediately brought the snowblower back to my house.  The price was fair & the service was top notch.  Highly recommended.
