They did a very good job, considering the somewhat unforeseen problems that arose. My house is in an area with a high water table, close to a river, and during excavation for the footer, water was discovered to be pouring into the hole they dug from the surrounding ground. Rather than simply throwing in some gravel and hoping for the best, they consulted an engineer and came up with a plan, using a type of soft concrete, that would ensure no settling or sinking of the new addition. This naturally cost more than the original estimate had allowed for. I had warned them of such a possibility by putting an extra wide footer (24 inches) in the plans, but no one anticipated the flood of water that showed up. I don't think the amount they charged me was unreasonable, considering the extra work that was needed to do the job right. The only question is whether the problem might have been anticipated considering the location of my house and the fact that I had indicated that the ground was pretty soft.
The rest of the job was done very well, including foundation, framing, electrical wiring, some plumbing, insulation, drywalling, roofing, and an exterior brick masonry façade -- all of which they did themselves, with no subs except for the gutters -- everything except painting. Although they had to fit my job in with another one they were doing at approximately the same time (of which they had informed me), once they were able to direct their attention to my job they worked steadily, nearly every day to complete it. So it took a little longer than I hoped, but for reasons that were understandable.
The quality was fine. Foundation, framing, roofing, etc, were all excellent. They poured a concrete floor which could have been a little smoother, but the job was for a garage-type storeroom that was not to be used as living space, so it was quite adequate. They had to search for brick that matched my existing walls and what they finally found was not an exact match, but they got my approval to use it, so I can't complain. I have no way of knowing whether a longer search might have yielded a better match.
They preserved a window from the existing wall, and re-used it, which saved me some money.
They were always professional, courteous, and punctual on the days they did come. They were easy to deal with and very willing to discuss issues, explain how & why they were doing things and accept my input when it was appropriate.
I would not hesitate to use them again.
The only item that was less than excellent was the fact that one of the doors rubbed slightly against the tile in one of the entryways, which might not have been avoidable. I felt that the price was a little steep, but I did not obtain any other bids, so I might be wrong about that.
