Ohio Walk-In Showers LLC
About us
Ohio Walk-in Showers, LLC is a small NE Ohio family run business, founded in 2005 by my father as Affordable Step In Showers. We started out by serving Cleveland and greater east side communities such as Euclid, Lyndhurst, Mayfield, Mentor, Solon, etc. But as word spread, we quickly had clients from Akron, Canton, Medina, Parma, Youngstown and western Pennsylvania requesting our services. Shortly afterwards my uncle from Sandusky was brought in to counsel clients in the Elyria, Lorain, Norwalk and Sandusky areas. Ohio Walk-in Showers prides itself in customer satisfaction and we do this by treating each client as though he or she were family. The person with whom you speak with will be there when your job is performed, so there will be no “he said/she said” conflicts. When you call, we don’t sell; we try and educate to make sure that you know what you’re getting (or not).

"Thanks [Member Name Removed] for taking the time to relay your experience. Hopefully your wife is more confident now when entering and exiting the bathtub and that this helps keep the both of you in your home for years to come. Jim"
"Mr. [Member Name Removed] - thanks for taking the time to review us. Your cast iron tub was extra thick, but time and persistence "won". I believe by choosing the deeper cut that you and your wife will be able to remain in your Westlake home a little longer. Jim Z"
"Thanks for sharing your experience [Member Name Removed]. Hopefully your husband is feeling much more secure now while entering & exiting his tub. Although Youngstown is on the fringe of our service area, hopefully your father has had an opportunity to view your converted cast iron tub. We'd consider traveling to North Lima if he's interested in having a tub cut."
"Thanks for your kind words Mr. [Member Name Removed]. James & I are always willing to listen to our client's needs & concerns and to share our 12+ years of grab bar locating experience. Hopefully these bars will keep you & your wife safe and in your home for years to come."
They cleaned the tub, sink, toilet and surfaces, However, your still need to clean your whole bathroom, because the fine black dust was still on the walls, doors, etc.
"Sorry that we did not exceed your expectations to earn higher grades. Not clear as to where we came up short as I tried to set expectations ahead of time."
Jim called in the morning to let us know he was on the way. They arrived earlier than expected, and got straight to work. He was great with my elderly Mom, and kept us informed as to progress and asked questions as needed. It was a tricky install; Mom's bathroom is small, and the liner had to be reinforced so it won't buckle when Mom puts her weight on it. Jim and James completed the work in about 3-1/2 hours. They left the bathroom as clean as they found it.
This was a great experience from start to finish -- Jim is very personable, and knows how to put customers at ease. The step-in looks great! There's a 24-hour wait before Mom can take a shower, but I know it will make bathing a lot easier for her. Highly recommend.
"Thank you, hope that it made it easier for your mother to shower."
Jim first came out to explain the process and marked off on the tub where the cut would go. We had to confirm Mom could navigate the step - but it was no problem.
The initial appointment had to be canceled due to Mom's medical emergency. We rescheduled and set the appointment that worked well for everyone. Before the work began, Jim confirmed where the cut needed to be to ensure Mom felt safe and could reach the wall/grab bars. Before the bars were installed he worked with Mom to position them at the right height/location.
Jim did a thorough cleaning of the space after he completed the work. All was completed within approximately 7 hours. There was only 2-3 hours when another bathroom in the house had to be used. The shower could be used a few days after the installation.
I was very pleased with how this went as I helped set it up but don't live in Cleveland so couldn't be there for the actual work. Jim communicated well with both me and my Mom about schedules etc.
Mom was very comfortable with Jim in the house and commented on his patience in getting the cut and bar locations just right for her. She had tears in her eyes when it was all done. Jim worried she was upset but in fact, she was happy this change allows her to stay in her home. That, is priceless.
Like many people my age, I am often challenged in trying to safely life one leg high enough to get in and out of the tub in order to shower, while trying to maintain my balance, and was in constant worry about the consequences were I to fall!
I explored a number of options and ultimately concluded that the installation of a Safeway Safety Step was the best choice for me. Searching the internet, I found and watched the instructional video provided by Safeway to teach contractors how to make the conversion, and I also found many, many stores and contractors now offering the service. While that's great for Safeway's business, I naturally thought: What about the fact that this looks to a layman like me as major surgery upon our built-in tub and shower? I hated to think of the consequences if an inexperienced handyman or a newly trained contractor were to make one false cut and wreck our entire existing installation! I felt that I wanted to have a company with considerable experience and knowledge in performing the conversation and installation.
When I found Jim's Affordable StepInShower website and studied the elaborate detail and explanations presented, and also checked our his reputation, I concluded that here was someone with not only considerable experience and knowledge about Safeway Safety Step Conversions, but also someone who has put a great deal of time and thought into learning and addressing the special safety needs of persons my age. My confidence grew even more as, at his suggestion, I exchanged measurements and photographs of our bath/shower setup with him by phone and by email, particularly when, with no sales pressure at all, he made constructive accompanying safety suggestions, for example also proposing to mount a firm grab bar for getting in and out; and he gave me a definite price with a fixed additional contingent charge only if my tub turned out to be steel or iron, which it was not.
Jim arrived on time on the agreed day, and set to work. He carefully removed the heavy existing glass doors and frame, put them into storage where we designated, eliminated nearly all evidence that they had ever been mounted on the tub, and then proceeded confidently to perform his "surgery" pausing only to call me in to make his suggestions and to get my input as to the exact location of the Safety Step on the tub, the location and height of the recommended grab bar based upon my personal height, arm length, and preferred method for getting in and out of the tub, etc. He worked carefully, cleanly and neatly as the time passed, and had the work site entirely cleaned up before he even called us in to inspect the finished job. He was glad to answer questions, and we were extremely pleased with the finished job.
I am not able to enjoy taking my showers again, getting into and out of the shower safely without having to painfully raise one leg higher than it wants to go, and having a secure grip to eliminate the worry of balancing on one leg in the process. It's a pleasure!
I highly recommend Jim Zuber and his company, Affordable StepInShower Conversions to anyone seeking to enhance the safety of their tub/shower setup. He is a real craftsman in the best sense of tradition. His prices were fair, and his work exemplary.

"If history is an indicator, Member will NEVER have any leakage due to construction with my installations!"
