General Remodeling, Door Service + 6 more
$65,800
It has been over a year since Brian L. Pauley started our project under the name BGP Renovations.
Our initial budget was around $54,000. Over the course of the first eight months with additions and changes, we paid Brian nearly $64,000.

After nearly seven months, so many questionable work ethics and poor craftsmanship became apparent, we put a stop to Brian and his boys from performing any further work on our project. It took time to find all of the issues that were not readily apparent over the course of the project. There is just far too much to list in this report. Our story is terribly long. The list of damages is terribly long. There are over four hours of video documenting this disaster on YouTube. Search 'Renovation Gone Bad', or any of the company names Brian has used.

A quick summary:

Money paid to Brian = Over $60,000
Total current damages = nearly $20,000, and climbing.

Brian falsified City building permits listing companies to perform specific trades that require State and Local licensing that never did work in our home. He did the work himself. He brought in contractors with fraudulent licenses presented to the City.
He never paid our architect and was subsequently sued.

Our foundation was incorrectly installed out of plumb by 6" which now carries throughout our entire addition.
We do not have a straight wall nor 90 corner in the entire addition.

Brian allowed our new framing and subfloor to be rained upon for nearly three weeks causing major buckling and warping to all exposed wood. Every piece of drywall installed on walls and ceiling appear wavy, out of plumb vertically, and  with very clear seam marks due to poor mudding and sanding. Heavy moisture and warped framing has now produced nearly 400 drywall screw heads to poke through the poorly finished walls. The wall that makes the transition from the new addition to the old home wall is out by two inches due to Brian not using any type of laser to plumb framing where new met old. Nearly $900 in painting material was wasted painting over this shoddy work.

Our roof was incorrectly built, deviating from architectural drawings missing key items to prevent water and ice penetration. Two layers of shingle were installed and calls to the City for inspections were never placed. The entire roof must now be removed and re-built. The current roof has leaked so bad over the last year that the ceilings in two rooms need entirely demolished and replaced, and the ceilings and walls in the mudroom will be replaced as well. All insulation material  in ceiling and several walls is now moldy and needs replaced.

One sliding glass door and five windows need removed and re-installed due to water penetration. Initial findings show that no flashing or any type of barrier was used around windows. Windows were simply set in the framing and nailed. Un-nailed header boards were found while removing windows.

Damage to two new doors. One will need entirely replaced due incorrect installation and subsequent damage to hinges and frame.

All 14 kitchen ceiling can lights need moved and rewired as they were merely randomly installed and not to drawings.

Damages to property including holes in new screens, nails shot through door frames, window frames, and electrical wires. Items were dropped on our new stove denting to top and face and chipping the powder coat.

Half of the new gutters have pulled away from the eaves from heavy rain alone this summer.

Electrical work requiring specific licensing was illegally performed by Brian and his misfits. Several outlets and switches were miswired creating dangerous situations. Work boxes were not set plumb within walls. Romex was not installed per City code in many locations in the house. Wiring quality and appearance is horrible. Boxes were buried in walls and behind drywall. Inspections were never followed up. Much of the electric needs repaired due to Code Violations.

Brian originally met with the City and us to discuss a resolution for the repairs he was legally liable to correct and agreed to repair. However, weeks later, he bailed and cried poor. I was left to seek resolution through his bond. After another seven months of hassle from the City and the Bond Company, the bond will cover the code violation repairs only. The nearly $10,000 in damages to property, home and shoddy work repair is on us, the home owner.

Look for our story to be shared nationally on the HGTV network this fall as we will be the feature home in an episode entitled 'Renovation - An Epic Fail'

Run away from Brian L. Pauley and his band of misfits.

Terribly!!!

This company, formerly known as BPG - owned by Brian Pauley is a fraud.  Do not hire him!!! We had hired him, because he had done our friends basement, which looked nice.  But, when we intereviewed him, we made it very clear that our type of job was different from doing basements.  We listed the jobs such as, Refinishing wooden floors,Refinishing wood cabinets,Tiling bathroom floor and shower,Installing iron railings,Installing recessed lights,Painting,Installing asian sliding door.  He responded, "no problem, we can do that".

We hired him, and in the beginning things seemed to be okay, because the initial jobs were just painting.  Then when he did our floor, it was absolutely HORRIBLE.  The stained was clumped up throughout the floor, and the polyurthane was peeling and bubbling.  I could  not believe my eyes. I contacted him immediately, and his reponse was, "we haven't buffed it yet, and it will look much better".  Then he finally came and looked at the floor, and then admitted that he had hired subcontractors to do the floor, and apologized.  He then had to resand and refinish the floor 3 additional times, and it still looks horrible!!  He then offered to replace our entire wood floor, as now it cannot be sanded down anymore, after the 4 times of sanding, and then he fell off the face of the earth.

Futhermore, our bathroom tiling was terrible, and he had to redo it.  But, it still looks super sloppy.

After repeated emails, he then said that he got injured on the job, and could not work anymore.  Then the friend who referred him saw him in Home Depot a couple days later.  So he obviously lied to us.  We then threatened to sue him, and he said he was closing his company, and therefore we couldn't get any of our money back.

We were very frustrated with this response, and hired a lawyer.  Two days after our lawyer contacted him, he closed his BPGrenovations company and then started a business called RenovateMeNow.

I know of one other person who was also swindled and duped by Brian Pauley, as if you google his name, another individual has made a youtube video of the problems he had with him as well.

Please do not hire him and suffer the same misery we have suffered.  We are still trying to fix the horrible job that he did on our house!!
