I had termite damage in basement with some beams that needed repair. Boulder Construction performed an estimate. At that time Dave gave an oral estimate but explained due to the project it would be a "time and material job".
When he sent the agreement he included an estimate that was $250-$300 more than the original oral estimate. Again it was explained it would be a "time and material job" not locked into the estimate. By the time they finished the job it was 25% ($400) over the 2nd estimate. From the beginning meeting to finished project a "time and material job" was $600+ more than the original oral estimate. Nothing changed in the scope of the project as Dave explained exactly what needed replacement, repaired and how it would be accomplished, which they did.
Not only was the actual cost much more than originally implied, the timeline for repair was unacceptable. My original contact with the company was in August and despite me asking them multiple times for a scheduled date I was continually told they were busy with large jobs.
We started this process in late August and they finally showed up Nov 5th to complete job.

"REALITY AND PERSPECTIVE: Termite repair job approximated in Good faith $1,930. Actual documented and substantiated charges $ 2,297.27 – Difference of $367.27 • People can manipulate facts and leave out pertinent information to fit their agenda / preconceptions. • We were contacted in September. After first meeting, we were told client was speaking to others and would let us know. • We were provided a general description of work with no specific detailed report. Damage discovered extended substantially past area defined by engineer. • As is common with termite damage, it is not possible to determine extent of damage until things are opened up. Communicated and reiterated theme on multiple occasions…….. that in Good faith we could only approximate the amount of time necessary to perform the work. • Received signed authorization from Client to do the work Early October. Maintained open lines of communication and explained that this was our busiest season. Let client know that we were working on projects that had been lined up from early Winter and Spring and appreciated his understanding. • Professionally executed work. • Client mailed letter expressing concerns. Owner of Boulder personally wrote letter responding to each and every concern with supporting receipts and documentation. ¬ SUMMARY • Client was provided with professional courteous service. Grades given are undeserved and mean spirited……Everyone is entitled to their own opinion."

His first name was David. He never came back. They did the deck but it looks like one of them was crooked and I called them about it and he never came back. He never called.

Dave replaced and retrimmed three front windows. All work was done extremely well and very professionally. I took some time for us to decide on the window glass and options. Dave was very patient and provided us with all the information and costs. We also decided during the project to use a more detailed trim. Again Dave accommodated us and did a great job.
We plan on using him again for other projects. We highly recommend Boulder Consruction.

One year later no signs of problems and everything looks great.
On time, on budget and as promised
Just had them last week rip out carpet in my family room and lay down hard wood flooring with 2 coats of sealer. Noticed one board had a small problem. Came out and replaced it almost immediately. Great job again.

We coud not be happier with the work Dave and his team completed.
Dave was an expert at communicating and was easily reachable.
He quickly responded to calls & texts.
We met with Dave for the 1st time mid week & discussed the work we were interested in.
He listened thoughtfully and was great at offering advice/ides.
He returned an estimate quickly;we accepted his offer that weekend & he asked if they could begin wok the next monday!
I came home from work that monday afternoon & his team had already removed the old deck & gutted the old bathroom.
We were amazed with and appreciative of the speed with which they got to work.
The entire job (new deck, 2 new bathrooms) was completed by the end of summer 2012.
We could not be more pleased with the end results.

TOP NOTCH! Everyone is extremely competent and they are true craftsmen as their work demonstrates. My new screened in deck is a beautiful addition to my home and I love it!!
The estimate to complete was 4 to 6 weeks and they did go over by a week. I know Dave was juggling several jobs along with mine and I tried to be patient, but if I had to be critical of anything, it would be the final tasks of finishing the trim work and installing the screens seemed to take forever. That being said, I understand that quality takes time and the quality is definitely there.
The Boulder team went above and beyond and built my deck as if it was their own. They also pointed out a couple of maintenance tasks that needed to be taken care of and handled those items for us as well. I truly feel like I got what I paid for and then some!

Playing phone tag and getting them to commit to a time was more of chore than I expected and took about two weeks after the initial estimate, but once we had a date set they were prompt and professional. The work turned out well, they did all the tasks we agreed on, they kept me informed of their progress, and the invoice was for the agreed amount. I plan to use them for another larger job soon.

Boulder is just top notch. The price was in the middle of the estimates that we received, but from meeting with Dave, we could tell that he had a vision that we wanted. He cared about details. He suggested things that made the space better. He was on our team the whole way which made us feel comfortable.
The work was very professional and quality. Dave made sure to inspect everything and redid things that were not satisfactory. We will start with Boulder for any future projects that we have around our home and would highly recommend they to anyone.

Great experience. Dave was extremely professional, punctual, and fair. His bid came in about 20% under the other 4 or 5 general contractors I worked with, and the quality was excellent. I would definitely use Boulder again.

The project took some time to get started. This was a bit unexpected on my end. But, from what I understand, Dave had several major projects going. Also, we had to wait on decking and door ordering, as well as weather. The job began in a reasonable time frame. Dave is very comprehensive in explaining his plans for construction. His attention to detail and communication about the process is refreshing. We had a bit of confusion on a set of doors. I was not on site when they were installed. I saw them after the installation. When I called to inform Dave that they were the wrong doors, we both calmly planned to look over the paperwork to find where the mistake was made. After some digging, he found that it was a miscommunication with the retailer furnishing the doors. It was an oversight. He was more than reasonable in finding a solution - even offering to replace the doors with the correct doors at his cost. WOW! We found a cheaper solution than full replacement, and I got the doors that I originally wanted. His reputation for integrity, quality work, and attention to detail is very important to him. Everything was really well done. I upgraded the doors and they ugraded the woodwork around the doors as well. Looks great! Deck is now a solid structure! Thank you Boulder team!
The price, I felt was a bit high. I received several quotes on replacing the entire deck, and his was in the middle of those for just repair (this included composite decking at approx. $500 that was not included in other quotes). His price on door replacement was right in line with others. I hired Dave because of his reputation and his trustworthiness. (not to mention his sweet dog!)

They were very accommodating, reasonably priced, and very quick. For instance, when the movers came, not everything would fit on the moving truck and we left bunch of stuff behind. He was so good about going through and donating the good stuff to charity and took the bad stuff to the dump. He was just so helpful and had really good workers. The price was reasonable for the quality of workers that came in. He had a carpenter come in and fix a wiggly banister that had been bothering me for years. He sturdied it up with a simple fix. He was very calm and steady for me during a very hectic time. He dropped everything to help us.

Dave (the owner) is extremely professional and very clearly cares. My wife and I are very picky, but he was happy to spend plenty of time going over plans and options with us. In a few instances, he would even call us on his own with ideas for making an idea we had come up with even better (and at no extra cost). On the last job he did for us, we changed our mind about what we wanted after they had dropped off the materials, but it was no problem for Dave. He simply found out what we wanted and made that happen.

I have used Dave from boulder Construction on previous projects and was extremely satisfied with his work. We spoke with Dave and he offered a number of suggestions on where to research and shop for the new door and hardware. After making our selections Dave coordinated with the supplier to ensure everything needed for the installation would be delivered. The installation was performed methodically and with great attention to detail. Being a 13 year old house, issues arose in fitting the new unit into the existing rough opening. Dave addressed those issues and the final product looks excellent. The door works properly and looks incredible. Within one week three strangers, without prompting, commented on how beautiful the door and side light looks.
I subscribed to Angie's List because I wanted a contractor who I could trust to work for me as he would work for himself. I was very pleased with this project from beginning to end. Dave was very professional, knowledgeable, and genuine in his approach. During his consultation he recommended I eliminate the possibility of a damaged downspout pipe as the source of the water flow. Once we ruled that out, he discussed his recommendation to lift the drive slab as the most cost effective approach.
I had received a previous recommendation/quote from another contractor for $1500!
Dave's crew completed the job within several hours (while I was at work). They filled in all the bore holes and smoothed each surface nicely. Cleanup was super; no evidence of a work crew having been there!
We have had several heavy rains since the job completion, and I am happy to say that the basement is dry! I highly recommend Dave and Boulder Construction.

It went very well. Dave from Boulder was very very flexible. He kept me well informed as to planning and design. I presented him with my ideas and we worked through multiple versions until I was satisfied. At no point in the process did I feel any pressure to move along or hurry up and make a decision. After I decided on the design, we had to really focus on the materials. I would tell anyone building a composite deck to understand the expense before you start the process. If you go into this trying to cut corners you will be disappointed. Anyway. Boulder was professional and courteous. The job site was cleaned up at the end of each day, minimal disruption to the yard. The build was spread out over a few weeks due to rain but we had a really nice spurt there towards the end for finishing touches. Dave came by and checked on the framing and the footers. When the decking was ready to go on, he was actively involved in that process.
Before we even started, Dave was very sensitive to my budget and he worked back and forth with me to come in on target. I finally decided that I would not be able to stay on my original budget due to the materials that I chose. I am very happy with the finished product and can not wait to spend time out there when it warms up in the Spring!!

I don’t remember what the price was, but it was reasonable. It was my concern and the guy was willing to answer all of my questions. He made me feel comfortable with the work that needed to be done. At my request, he did more to check the possible effects and consequences of my decision. My house was built in 1862. So, things have been changed around. Apparently, the cistern was partially filled in and covered over with a thin slab of concrete and that concrete had broken. So, the guy looked in using a light and a mirror. He told me what was there and what he recommended. I wasn’t quite comfortable with that. So, at my request, he cut a bigger hole and showed me. He didn’t charge me for that. He was very responsive to my concerns. He is very knowledgeable. If he doesn’t have the expertise, he is willing to go out and find someone that does. He is just a wonderful person to work with. I would use them again if there are any foundation issues. The cistern was right next to the house. I contacted them rather than a contractor because I looked them up and their expertise was foundation repair. So, I thought it was a foundation issue and might be affecting my foundation, but it wasn’t.

The project went extremely well. Dave was a pleasure to work with and offered practical solutions to limitations on the project.
The project exceeded our targeted cost, but our initial expectations were misaligned so I don't fault Boulder for that. The work was performed with the highest quality and professionalism. It was also executed in a timely fashion. I would gladly hire Boulder again.

They are on Angie’s List. It was a 3 to 4 day job. I spent about $1300 for their service. I really liked the quality of their work. Everything was done very professionally and the work was of high quality. Their prices were right in line with everyone else. They adjusted their schedule to help me. I can’t point my finger on a single thing and I don't think I would.

Boulder was very professional and responsive. The finished project was beautiful and met our expectations. They were right in line with their original quote as well as the time frame. A little more expensive than another but well worth the money for the finished product. We will definitely be using them again and recommend them for General Contractor needs.
