Everything went very well. The came to provide an estimate the week after I called, started the work a couple days later, and finished by the following week.

They were prompt and efficient and did good work.  I had storm damage in 2013.  They came out promptly for an insurance estimate, but never came back to complete the work despite repeated calls. It was only a $250 job and probably not worth their time.

They finished in June several weeks past their estimated finish date. Shortly after completion, paint in the first floor, front bedroom closet peeled and flaked away. His painter came back and re-painted the area, leaving it pitted and foregoing any professional preparation to smooth out the area and leave a clean, attractive appearance. The painter's work had to be re-done by myself. The same event occurred in Nov.;this time on the dining room wall, the staircase walls to the upstairs and also to the rear, 1st floor bedroom closet. The painter came back and did the same kind of job, leaving cheap paint, pitting, cracking and flaking on the surfaces. Ron Borchert contends that it's our fault because we have the temperature too low at 56 degrees; that it's the wallpaper behind the paint that is peeling. However, there never has been any wallpaper on the walls. Since the first instance occurred during warm weather, blaming cool temperature for the peeling does not follow. Also, if there was wallpaper on the walls then this condition should be pervasive, but it is only showing in the three areas mentioned. I mentioned this to Ron. He then responded by claiming to have done a lot more for us than we were billed for, inferring he didn't need to spend the time. He, of course, did not do anything for free. Looking over the contract, he billed for every single little detail. To help the reader understand, the repair of the defective areas takes time. The surface areas all need to be inspected and scraped; they need to be mudded allowing time to let them dry. They then need to be sanded and primed; and then finished with final coats of paint. The house was repaired in order to sell. It is currently on the market and being viewed with the way it is. So, buyers are obviously seeing it with the cracking, pitting and flaking walls. Ron states he's going to have to charge us if he has to come back to repair the faulty workmanship. I was surprised to hear him say that because he comes across as an anomaly to the stereotypical contractor. (i.e. He's easy to talk to, sounds trustworthy, listens to what you have to say and had come with a referral from a very respected church member.) But, based on the fact he won't back the quality of his workmanship and fulfill his promise to do a good job, I do not recommend Ron Borchert's company(s). People from our church now have to spend time away from their families to get these areas repaired. It's unfortunate to see Ron go this route and not finish the job. You want to see someone that's likeable do well. However, I don't think Ron will be getting the same recommendations any longer.

POST COMPLAINT RESULTS:  AFTER FILING THIS REPORT AND ONE WITH THE BBB, RON FINALLY DID RE-DO THE DEFECTIVE AREAS.

The owner was friendly and easy to work with. The workmen were very prompt and hard working. The drywaller was exceptional as we had asked him to match the pattern in the dining room ceiling from the 1940's and HE DID IT. The carpentry was also very well done. I felt comfortable leaving them alone when I had to be out of the house. They cleaned up thoroughly each day before they left. They always left us with as much of the kitchen functioning as possible. Some days were tricky but I never felt the kitchen was useless.

I WAS ORIGINALLY GOING TO ADD A CONSERVATORY AND PICKED A DIFFERENT COMPANY, EVEN THOUGH I LIKED RON'S IDEAS FOR A SUNROOM. I JUST HAD MY HEART SET ON A CONSERVATORY. THE COMPANY I CHOSE FOR A CONSERVATORY, AT THE LAST MINUTE ADDED $10,000 TO THE PRICE. SO I CALLED RON BACK AND HAD HIM OVER FOR A NEW DISCUSSION OF SUNROOMS, AND I HIRED HIM TO DO THE JOB. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT RON AND HIS WORKERS. MY SUNROOM IS GORGEOUS, AND THE TALK OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD. HE HAD MANY IDEAS TO IMPROVE ON THE ORIGINAL IDEAS AND DESIGNS I HAD. HE AND HIS WORK CREW ARE COURTEOUS, KNOWLEDGEABLE, FRIENDLY, AND WILLING TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO PLEASE A CUSTOMER. PRIOR TO CHOOSING HIM, I CONTACTED AND VISITED MANY OF HIS FORMER CUSTOMERS AND ALL OF THEM HAD ONLY GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HIM. THEY WELCOMED HIM AND ME INTO THEIR HOMES TO LOOK AROUND. AGAIN, IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING ANY TYPE OF ADDITION OR REMODELING OF YOUR HOME, CALL RON.
