The job was supposed to be completed in three months; it was mostly complete by the end of six months but there were some minor things that were never completed. The quality of the rough framing was good. The finish work was never done to our satisfaction and took repeated comments and direction. The subcontractors varied from quite good to absolutely unsatisfactory. The business practices of this contractor were a huge problem. He did not properly vet bills of his subcontractors, but passed them along in their entirety no matter how outrageously discrepant with the original bid or unsupported by signed agreements. They complained that he did not pay them and we were threatened with a mechanic lien.
Description of Work: This was a master bathroom/master bedroom remodel job, along with some other jobs in other parts of the house.

Response from TJ Construction
The delays were caused by the "architect/designer", Raffi Thomassian, who included unavailable plumbing and lighting fixtures and tile in his design. Finding replacements took weeks, especially the tile, which Thomassian had to personally "redesign" himself. Thomassian also designed a "light wall" that turned out disappointingly bland because he ordered plywood for the material, which is impossible to "finish" in a satiny, reflective surface without repeated sanding and painting, taking numerous hours that Thomassian refused to pay for. Thomassian refused to take any responsibility for his numerous mistakes, errors or design flaws, which I had to overcome and work against. as for the subcontractors, I had a contract with Howe that specified what work they would be doing and how much it cost. Howe added painting and other work that was not included in our contract, then refused to pay me for it so I could pay the subs, citing the delay as his excuse for not paying in full. I in turn, paid all my subcontractors for every penny I had agreed to pay them for the work included in my contract, and told them they would have to work out payment for the extra work with Howe. Also, during the 3 months delay due to Thomassian's "design expertise", we installed a california-style closet system in the MBR closet, and I told Howe I would donate MY time doing this as compensation for said delays, even though they were not my fault. He chose to hear that as he would get the materials and my employee's work hours all free as well, so when I billed him for the materials and hours for my associate, he refused to pay for any of it. As a note, due to the 3 month delay, I lost a significant amount of money ($20,000) on this job, not to mention lost opportunities to make good money elsewhere. Howe has chosen to blame me in entirety for all the design flaws, delays, missing and unavailable materials, tub, tile, etc., and to give me a bad review accordingly. I reject his allegations as being biased. Where is his bad review of Raffi Thomassian? I have been in the carpentry/subcontracting/homebuilding/remodeling industry for 45 years, and have never once received a negative review, comment, or lawsuit, any kind of derogatory response to any of my previous work. I have done Homerama, Long Cove, Indian Hill, Montgomery, Anderson Twp, Delhi and Western Hills, all kinds of projects from framing the 10,000 plus square foot monster homes to finish carpentry on the interior of many expensive homes and buildings, and have never had one complaint from any customers. I'm considered a master carpenter, and told by all my business clients, such as Premier Homes, Perry Bush Customer Homes, and many others how easy it is to work with me and how well I do for them, as I can take a print and build it from scratch. I will never work with Raffi Thomassian Design Studios again, the man is a self-agrandizing fool who couldn't build a dog house without running into trouble.
